    As usual Toyota gives us their 4X4 scraps, the main dishes go to places like UAE and Australia. The last true hardcore Landcruiser we had in USA was 80 Series in 1997. I feel the solid front axle vehicles are at a totally different level when the going gets really rough, and demanding. Owning FJ40’s I can attest to their ruggedness, robust builds. However since all we will get is IFS and I own a ‘19 4Runner TRD Pro, I really appreciate your knowledge of all things Toyota. You own the last of the great IFS Landcruisers. I guess for soccer Moms the LX600 is fine. But, most capable new IFS 4X4 is clearly the GX550, I am betting it will also out perform the new “Landcruiser” as well, if you can call it that. Sad to see when a formerly great company begins to live off the name only of one of their previous exceptional vehicles. Toyota has dug their own grave in the offroad community by what they give us here in the USA, their scraps so to speak. Thanks again for your excellent review and knowledge base. I am and always will be biased towards the solid front axle Landcruisers but, you probably know more than anyone else about their IFS 4X4’s and it shows👍

    First thing I noticed when driving a Jeep Wrangler off road is that fabulous front axle. You can immediately feel the extra articulation and you can feel the front axle "following" the ups and downs of the road. Would be nice if we could have that in Toyota form. Though I'm sure they would argue that on-road feel would suffer for the average customer. 😢

    Yes I totally agree. IFS is way more comfortable for those longer on pavement sections. We would both love to see Toyota bring us the 70 Series with a solid front axle, utilitarian, all business type off-roader! Both designs have their good and bad aspects. Raining here in Phoenix today👍

    Funny you put this out today. This morning I test drove a 2022 LX 600 F Sport. Had 10,000 miles on it, the dealer listed on it's website for $111,000.00 and wants $129,000. Obviously before tags title etc. I have the 2022 GX 460 Black line edition and the ride in mine is smoother. I think due to the wheel size? 18 vs 22. The engine felt very nice, I thought I would be disappointed, but I was not. I did enjoy the way it feels and I was very grateful there was one they actually allowed me to test drive as I don't see how I could possibly buy a vehicle without test driving. If the GX 550 wasn't on it's way I would possibly get it, but when comparing I'm still more inclined to get the 550. Every Lexus at my dealer has a jacked up price, they love to call "market adjustment". I live in an area where for many people money is no object. One might think that you are rich because you buy a Lexus, I kind of think that you tend to be more of a frugal person AND that's why you want a Lexus. In any case I can't wait to see the GX 550 in person. I really appreciate your comparisons they are down to earth an address a ton of the things that are actually going through people's minds. One of the car salesmen did say something interesting. He said that in the case of the NX when it was announced it was missing items people wanted. But when it actually arrived it hadd many of those things. I guess maybe Toyota will wise up and maybe put the E-KDSS on at least the Luxury +. At least I hope.

    What am i missing?... Yes the LX600 loses the E-KDSS from the GX550 but it uses AHC and AVS *in place of* E-KDSS. If we look back to the 200 series it was the same situation with the Land Cruiser (KDSS) and LX570 (AHC). If you look at the RTI scores on those (stock) vehicles they were both outstanding, and pretty much interchangeable. When modified, historically, the Land Cruiser's KDSS lent itself more easily to lifts and modifications whereas the LX570's AHC was more difficult to do (but not impossible as we have now seen with some of the incredible AHC builds here on KZread). Toyota aren't stupid and seem to think there's scope for both systems in slightly different usage cases and the market. I tend to agree.

  • @LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD

    AHC won't disconnect the sway bars like e-kdss does. AHC is height control, not sway bar disconnect. AVS is ALSO on the GX550 overtrial as well... that is electronic shock-reaction adjustment

  • @steffenchristmas1987

    @steffenchristmas1987

    8 ай бұрын

    @@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD True, AHC won't disconnect the swaybars like KDSS does. But, if you look at AHC equipped trucks like the LX570 (and European Land Cruiser 200's) you'll see that the swaybars are *much* thinner, almost flimsy looking - that's why stock RTI comparisons are so comparable. Not being able to disconnect them has *less* of an impact than on the KDSS models with thicker ARB's. Although, I agree, it will still have *some* impact. I don't feel it's a matter of Toyota "stripping out" KDSS and short changing their customers on the LX600, more that they're offering a system in the 600 that's more appropriate to their customers more of the time, for their intended daily use case. As always it's a compromise, and the buyer just needs to make an informed decision on what will suit them best. If I was choosing a rig to build up for overland travel or more off road focused fun I too would probably be considering a KDSS starting point for it's simplicity and ability to accept lift and customisation options. It's a very clever (Australian) invention. As much as the purists complain about each new Land Cruiser release I think we're at a really interesting time right now with the new 250 and GX550. Plus the 300 & 600. It's a pity you guys don't get the diesel models in the USA as I've had really good long term experiences with the diesels - yes, including the turbo diesels! Toyota have been doing turbo diesels long enough for them not to be a problem. The march towards smaller capacity engines (to meet emissions) troubles me more. The 2.4 in the Hilux really wasn't great and I preferred the previous 3.0D in the Prado compared to the current 2.8D. I hope the twin turbo V6 petrol/gas proves to be a good unit although reports of trouble with it in early Tundras aren't reassuring. We'll see.... I think the GX550 hits a pretty sweet spot. The irony is it doesn't look like it'll be offered for sale in Western Europe. Ah well, we all want what we can't have! It'll be a preowned LC 200 4.5D for my next purchase.

Maybe toyota thinks americans never go offroad and dumbed down the LX600 and the new "landcruiser", seems like its just a money mission now using the landcruiser nameplate. That is a legendary title and they shouldve kept it true and brought over the LC300, not a half assed vehicle with the LC badge, seems like the best time to buy a 200 series or LX570 and hold on to it.

    As simple and stupid as it sounds, I'd take the LX600 over the GX550 just for the physical HVAC and seat climate control button. I like how the new GX550 looks, but the interior is still a bit stripper for the inflated price plus no standard E-KDSS; the value proposition is better for the GX460 with standard KDSS at $61k. When you're talking upwards of $80k for an upper trim GX550 (the only way to get E-KDSS), you could get a lower end/premium LX600 for an additional 10 grand or less. I have issues with the jumbled center console on the LX600 and a few other luxury features that are lacking, but I feel like it's a better buy. This is a mental thing for me, but once price starts pushing up to $75-100k bracket, I'm going to just buy whichever vehicle has the better QOL features (and that's the LX).

    @@chibbyylol the LX600 is still the Landcruiser 300 series though. I haven't been able to find the numbers, but from what I've seen the articulation on the LX600 looked great and as long as the ride quality is there, then for the average person I think the tradeoff for the benefits of E-KDSS is negligible. The GX isn't short wheelbase anymore on that shared platform, so that's now a wash between the two. Sizewise, the GX is so much closer now to the LX than it ever was. Also don't discount the "few buttons" aspect- having all your convenience controls walled behind a touchscree or voice commands (that don't always work well) is absolutely horrible.

It basically has the same drivetrain as the GX 550 Overtrail (except hybrid 4-cyl instead of V6) and at a much lower price point than a GX 550 Overtrail will be.

    NO. The LC250 has 1/2 of ekdss... ie ekdss on the front only. Toyota did NOT make a new "sway bar disconnect" for the front axle of the LC250. It is simply ekdss on the front axle only. KDSS had always been a front and rear bar disconnect... been out since 2009. The LC250 omits rear ekdss, front locker, turn assist, auto MTS, AVS (adjustable shocks), rear seats and most of the lux. GX550 adds ALL of the missing above except the front locker and rear seats.

    @@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD wow front only ekdss? apparently 55k is not enough for full ekdss for Toyota, a TRD Off-Road 4Runner for 44k has the nice fully hydraulic KDSS on all 4 corners and a locking rear diff, what is auto MTS?

    Neither because neither one has a real V-8 engine in them.

    The GX 550 is nothing like the LC300 it is the LandCruiser 250 with a V6. The LX 600 is the LC 300 with out all the off road capabilities

    @@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD the GX and LC300 are not the same just because they share some of the same components/ features. The LC 300 is longer, wider and heavier
