Lewitt Connect 6 - A Great Interface with a Big Weakness

So Lewitt just made an audio interface, and not going to lie I had high expectations! Lewitt frequently comes to market with incredibly innovative technology, and although this interface definitely has some unique (and game changing) innovations, it seems to be at the cost of some pretty standard stuff? Why?

Nice video. I have to give kudos to Lewitt for linking to this video from Facebook. That's how I got here. And yes, a high impedance input or switch is critical. Also, just a note: Even if your mic pre has lots of gain an inline booster can still be helpful for a cleaner signal from low output mics. When you push the gain very high you always raise the noise floor (once over 50%-60%). An inline booster like a Cloud Lifter or a Royer-DB20 (which I have) these provide a few DB of ultra clean gain that makes the preamp not work so hard and doesn't raise the self-noise floor. So, having 72db gain is great but an in-line booster can improve things when you are ready to invest a little more money.

Hd 650 is an open-back headphone designed for critical listening. It might work ok for mixing (which should generally be done on studio monitors in a controlled environment) but the noise bleed from the open-back design is not good for monitoring while recording. You definitely want something closed back with good isolation for tracking.

Your reasoning for wanting a "small interface, out of the way," is precisely why I still use a presonus USB 96... After ten years, I can finally mix at a professional level so it doesn't matter what mic and preamp I use anymore tbh. Song will be dynamically perfect (so long as performance is good) I will say, I recorded through other interfaces and can hear my presonus had a layer of "film" covering to it, but it almost sounds analog so it's cool with me lol

Thank you for this video! I'm a guitar player and new to recording. I already maxed out my wife's tolerance to me spending large sums of money on guitar and music accessories this year. I'm left using my boss gx100 or fender mustang micro as an interface. I also don't have my own laptop. Sure I can use my wife's laptop but that's if she's not already using it and she uses it a lot because she works from home. I have successfully recorded Guitar tracks using into bandlab and cubase 3 on my Samsung g32. I was considering buying the connect 6 because Of the fact that I have the DSP processing power and my phone clearly lacks that But i'm Also fairly uneducated when it comes To how digital recording works. Knowing The connect 6 does not have a high Z input It seems Dumb for a guitar player to buy it. But what about my GX 100? Could I run the guitar through that and then connect the GX 100 To the interface and into my Phone?

Also idk if you noticed it but your email pops up during the guitar testing, covering the hi z title. What makes it worse is i’m probably the quickest to talk shit about specifically the um2, and it literally shines above in half the shit i need from an interface. I am blown away by that. Behringer just makes you download asio4all as their “asio driver”. Yet they have the necessary setup for good music results. Insane.

When you mentioned this interface on Sound Speeds epic live stream, it made me remember the mess up I had in my review and I got mad at myself all over again lol 😂 I’ve been playing guitar for 18 years and have been recording guitar for 16ish… I am huge of DI boxes and the countryman DI I have is awesome! I find that I like the result I get from them even more than most Hi-Z inputs on interfaces. So I usually just use that if I go direct in and want to use a sim… which is exactly what I did with this interface. However, I am really bad about recording my tests at separate times rather than all together. I had recorded the guitar tests for my review first thing… like way before anything else. So, I when I was recording the other parts I forgot to disclaim the lack of a hi-z and that a DI box is recommended for a musician that may also be a content creator, or of course using a mic to record an amp. I had posted it for a few days before I even remembered and I was pretty pissed at myself haha. I have a disclaimer in the description, but that’s not really good enough. I had to just take a breath and let it go though 👎. I tend to drive myself crazy with stuff like that. I am going to at least put a link to your video next to that disclaimer in my description so people can click on that and have an explanation of why no Hi-Z input matters. I do agree with you, it would be awesome if Lewitt bridged the gap between musician and content creator. Especially since a lot of their stuff is more musician focused. I was honestly really shocked that they even released this, it doesn’t really seem like them all that much. Great video dude! It was cool being on the same live stream as you and your cute cats for a little bit. Hopefully talk soon!
