I have, saw them live in Indy from 2000-2007. Those v8s felt quiet compared to the mighty v10s. I can still feel the sound of them accelerating out of the chicane with traction control

Don't have to, luckily. Stood at the fences during the V12, V10 and V8 era. Man, it was something else. When sitting at the starting line, the screams of those cars made your eyes water. It was petrolhead pornography at its best.

Not Lewis' biggest fan, but I think we can all relate to that look in his eye when that V10 was screaming, it's what drew a lot of us to the sport and it's such a shame it's gone. Surely the current V6s could be made to sound a lot better than they do.

Only way is getting up turbo boost, and let engines get more fuel in... So they need to bring ethanol back. It was racing in Indicad twenty years ago...why isn't it in F1 is a mystery. Biofuel and more power and sound will be closer to the good old turbos.

@@youtuytumaddrre he did do a young driver's test back in 2004 driving the McLaren F1 (I think). Besides, you don't need to have driven it to feel the magic. I've never driven one and I feel it.

When they bring back v10s Renault and Mercedes will be gone. With Honda gone you will have 1 engine supplier left. Renault is part owned by France the country. They can't justify investing into v10 technology which has no use in real life. Even high end sports cars like königsegg use v8s. Same for Mercedes.

Bring us back a 3.0, 2.5L V10 with 100% biofuel and whatever hybrid systems you need to justify it all, please. Just fuggin do it. Please.

That sound before the fly-by, in the low speed corners - it's almost like the sound of the ghost of a long lost loved one. Lingering in the back of your mind, you feel their presence but it's quite faint. Then you hear their voice, and the joy of memories brings tears to your eyes in that moment. Chills! Literally what I felt while seeing the reaction of Lewis and hearing that sound.

Melbourne Australia late 90s was amazing! I lived about 10 kilometres from the race track and could still hear them on practice and qualifying days. Race day up close trackside and hearing the entire grid is something i will never forget. That era of F1 cars was very special !

0:52 and Sir Lewis became a ten year old again. The pure, innocent love of a symphony of fuel - an orchestra of alloy and steel. The hunger for speed in days past.

I was in Monaco GP back 1997 and never forget the sounds of those F1 cars.

Good lord, that is blood curdlingly good. The numbers guys would say the V6s this percent more efficient, but holy shit the V10 howl is as legendary as an ICE noise can get.

I can remember being at every F1 race at spa since 1999. I was disgusted when they switched to v6 hybrid and i still am. Everything before the hybrids sounded so good. It was loud and would make the ground shake. People always mistake it. They think "loud is always good". Its not that way. They were insanely loud. But the sound, the pitch, the tc kicking in after every corner. They just had an amazing sound, and it wasnt just "loud" , like theyre trying to repliclate now and make them louder, FIA, i dont care about the decibels, the hybrids sound shit compared to this, no fixing that by turning up the volume. We need those RPM's and that tone, not that volume.

I mean, even the Inline 4 of Super Formula seems to sound better than modern V6 hybrid engines. F1 has really gone downhill from his days of glory

I was lucky to have been at the 2005 Barcelona and Monaco Grand Prix. The V10s sounded other worldly. The naturally aspirated V10s were Super Loud and sang a beautiful song. Earplugs were a must have back then!!!!!!!!

I remember, as a kid, my fathers company he worked for was the was a sponsor of the 2009 Australian GP, going to the track and hearing the V8 sounds ,not even being able to hear him speak next to me. The V10 would be mental. Good memories.

Thats one of THE things what motorsport is about when you watch it in person.

FIA bring back the V10 it would sky rocket the ratings
