Lewis Gordon on engaging with Fanon in the time of Covid
Lewis Gordon is one of the greatest philosophers of our times. He is based at the University of Connecticut and works in the areas of Africana philosophy, existentialism, phenomenology, social and political theory, postcolonial thought, theories of race and racism, philosophies of liberation, aesthetics, philosophy of education, and philosophy of religion. He is a real polymath. He has written particularly extensively on Africana and black existentialism, postcolonial phenomenology, race and racism, and on the works and thought of W. E. B. Du Bois and Frantz Fanon. His most recent book is titled: What Fanon Said: A Philosophical Introduction To His Life And Thought.

I kept refusing to read Mr. Gordon's book on 'What Fanon Said' as I thought it would had been not what Fanon wanted or really had said however, once I read the chapter on Nonebeing, I was blown away. I had to see who this person was and was surprised. Refreshing. Plus, coming from similar background made it easier for me to connect the pieces of my own life experiences. I'm shocked this post is not loaded with comments. Wonderful, thank you both.....interviewer and interviewee

Mr . Manji , thank you so much for this fantastic interview with Mr. Gordon - who happens to be my latest discovery here ....from Southern Brazil . I am 65 and I teach for economically deprived teens and adults - in evening schooling - in the outskirts of a Brazil's southern state capital - bordering Uruguay and Argentina we are a group of teachers studying antiracial procedures to better teach our kids , we were asked to read FANON - and then .... what is presently occurring in my country is exactly the chaos described by Mr. Gordon during these months of covid pandemic . We have a civil but authoritarian semi - militar government, run by a civilian assisted by military the very president invited .... there has been no previous lockdowns in many capitals - there has been no oxygen orders from the Health Department, and people in MANAUS died uncontrollably - we have variants and the vaccines are not in the necessary amount... LEWIS Gordon 's words describe my rich and creative country... we have an excellent Science production - we have state labs and Health Workers trained to give shots to everybody - including Rain Forest areas - by boat .... but the Government has failed ... this genocidal government will be among us until- ext elections 2022 . thank you for the opportunity and Be Healthy ! I am still waiting for my shot to go back to class. Fanon predicted Brazil !

.... in adition to being poor, many Brazilians follow the president BOLSONARO pentecostal faith , and these has had a large influence on the Congressmen - the lobbies have been tremendous and as there has been cut on Educations budgets, it has been difficult for the socialists or left-wing political parties to fight the budget and the financial funds for emergency support for the unemployed ..... and the consequences of post covid in patients will be eating a lot of money from poor black slums people in the near future ....
