Knowing he wrote this song for his aunt who lost the battle to suicide, makes this song much more meaningful. I lost my significant other due to suicide 8 years ago...if I ever write a book and it becomes a movie...this would have to be the theme song.

The fact that in each clip the girl is smiling and laughing and looks as if she’s always so happy and then the ending.. just proves that anybody could be struggling no matter the situation. Always be kind, you never know how much just a smile could help someone. Love you Lewis and this song ❤️

I used to feel this way, but I was able to overcome it with the help of my family and friends once I overcame the fear of shame and thinking they wouldn't understand. Now I know someone who says she feels this way on a somewhat regular basis. I tried to help her and be there for her when she would let me, empathize, be positive, offer encouragement, and try to make her happy. But things have gotten really bad for her the last few weeks, and she's dealing with an immense amount of stress on top of her depression and anxiety, and she's pushed me away. I can't help wishing I could have done more, or could be doing more. Even though I believe she's strong enough to not take the final option, I'm just so very worried about her and holding out hope that she'll be able to get herself to a better place soon. 👻, if you watch this video and see this comment, please know that you are NOT worthless, that things WILL get better, and you have more people out there that love you, care about you, and believe in you than you sometimes realize or are willing to admit to yourself. And we're all here for you and ready to help you get through this when you're ready to let us. That goes for everyone else out there too. You have more people around you that are willing to help than you realize. Yeah, there will always be a few people that can't comprehend how anyone could ever feel this way, and won't understand what you're going through. But there are far more people around you that do, or will at least try to understand, and they'll be relieved that you reached out to them for their help.

I just heard this song for the 1st time a few days ago, and when I heard him sing that line it was instantly like a punch to the heart and gut, bringing up memories of my own struggles, and reminding me of what she's going through. But within a few moments there was also this soothing calm that fell over me, because it also reminded me that I got through it, and there are other people out there, like Lewis, that can at least relate to the people that do struggle with it.

Does it ever get easier? It’s been 9 years since I kissed the love of my life goodbye for the last time in 2015. Not a day goes by where I don’t think of her. When this came out I was homeless, on drugs, and then jail. I now have a house, job, and husband. This song and “Clover Cage - In the Moment” are the two songs that helped get rid of my depression. This song hit home in every way. I lost my husband to suicide 8 months ago, we had just celebrated 15 years of marriage, he left me with our 2 boys (14 and 10) life will never be the same. I have his ashes, I talk to him, I ask questions, he started suffering from depression after his father passed away in 2019, he was under psychiatric care, but I had no idea he was suicidal. The day he took his life, was the worst day of my life. He took his life in a location that our kids wouldn't find him, but it was the 1st place I looked for him. I still have that image, I still hear myself screaming, I remember calling 911, I still remember the police staying at my side the entire night not allowing anyone to come near or talk to me unless I said it was okay, I remember another officer not allowing my kids to come out of the house to protect them from seeing anything. Dec 2nd 2021 forever changed my life. I was in a fog and numb until I returned to work in January. My boys are at the age that they need their dad and he isn't here, I have been leaning on uncle's to help guide the boys. I played this song on their Dad's birthday recently as we decided to celebrate his birthday instead of mourning him (like his mother decided to do) I only want my children to mourn their fathers death on the day he passed, not on his birthday as well. My MIL hates me for that but I am doing what is best for MY children... Sorry for rambling...

i remember this song coming on while i was sitting on my room floor and was contemplating self-harm/suicide, and this came on shuffle and i listened to the lyrics and sobbed. i know that you won't see this, but thank you for helping me. i finally told my parents what was happening and they got me the help i needed. thank you so much Edits; 1. thanks for the support everyone 2. thank you for standing up to the trolls everyone who said such nice things! 3. evidently the trolls weren't reading properly, i shared my story on here to let people know that they can get through the tough times even if it doesn't seem like it, and i was thanking lewis for creating such a moving song. 4. thank you for all of the likes, almost 2k people!

I lost my 2 month old my husband and I had our two boys prayed without ceasing finally got our baby girl Brylee Austynn everything fit perfectly and september 17th I was having a sleep over with my sons and their friends and woke up to find their little sister , our beautiful daughter had passed in her sleep it was way too far to save her but emt worked 2 hrs, my husband drove 2 hrs from his refinery job all hope lost to save her but the emt tried like hell. There are people watching this that lost someone. I am so sorry for you. I lost someone too and I come back to this song when I need to. It's all we got sometimes.

"It kills to know your mind can make you feel so worthless" That line is too deep, had me choking by tears throughout the whole video. Suicide only passes your pain to the ppl you love. Keep seeking help from the ppl near, they can and would understand when you relate to them how you feel.

I lost my sister in 1981 to suicide and all these years later it still hurts. Before she took her life she asked me if I would miss her if she wasn't around. I didn't get what she meant and I was 3000 miles away from her . I told her I would miss her and I loved her. That was our last conversation.

@@ellalawrence4642 because of an accident, when my brother went to office then a pickup car drove up too fast in that was time the pickup car in the red light and my brother in the green light, on video shows me the pickup car has broken up traffic rules, because of besides the pickup car there was 2 motorcycle which has showed me that the motorcycle really stopped.

I’m sorry to hear that my dad died from a heart attack when I was 3 years old and my mom left my dad for a next guy when I was a baby and she left me in the bath tube and she packed her things and left with her bf and her bf didn’t want me and she left and when my dad came back home and he saw me in the bath tube and he was mad and my dad didn’t know she had a bf and he moved out of his house and he went to my grandparents house and his two sisters and brother and mom and dad help him take care of me and when my 13 birthday came my grandma called my mom so she would talk to me I don’t miss her I miss my dad I never missed her because she didn’t care about me my dad only cared about me I miss him not her 😢💔😞and I am 13 years old turning 14 next year in 2024 in 1st of August Edit: and he waited for her for 2 weeks and she never came back

For the people who are having a rough time in life : Your gonna be okay , time will heal everything also you remember that your great.

I heard this being used as the background music for The Voice UK. I vaguely remember hearing the same song previously, so I typed 'before you go' and found myself watching the entire MV. The definition of the lyrics it touches you when you understand it. To me I thought what beautiful lyrics, but when you realised the definition behind it, only then you realise it's much more than that. That even the happiest of people can suffer in silence, that's why you should make the most of every moment in your life with your loved ones, whether that's family, relatives, friends, partners etc... Someone you care about. Because, truth be told, you never know if it will be theirs/yours last day. Live life with no limitations or regrets. Never suffer in silence and seek help when everything becomes a bit much for you. Just like others I've met wonderful people, but unfortunately when you see them happy. Deep down they could be suffering, for i.e. in my teenager years I was fortunate to have met a lovely person, but some years later they had passed away and the cause of it was down to suicide. They was such a vibrant person that I was surprised of the reason. So please seek help if you ever feel alone, or are suffering. Don't suffer in silence. Lewis Capaldi, you delivered this message well, thank you. There's probably more songs you've released that touch up on such tough topics. I will find time to look into your music releases. I hope you continue to share not just your messages in songs, but your beautiful vocals along with it. 'Before You Go' definitely speaks to me.

The mastery of this video is how it shows the girl from everyone else's perspective. We don't know why "her mind made her feel so worthless." What we see is how everyone loved her, how she was such a source of joy to them all. It shows the tragedy of suicide in a new way, like, if only the person trapped in those feelings could see how everyone else perceived them.

“Was never the right time when you called”. Dude that hits deep. I’d give anything to hear my moms voice again. But when I could...it was never the right time.

Midoriblitz A hard lesson learned was “make the time”. If my family calls, I stop what I’m doing now and take the call. You never know if it’s the last time you’ll be able to.

Michelle Chauraya I lost my mom in November of 2017. What I’d give to just be able to listen to her same stories for hours again.

Im crying my eyes out rn. This reminds me of my mum who passed away from cancer in 2018, 2 weeks after my birthday. I know if she was here rn, she would've been a big of a fan of your music as much as I am. This song is so beautiful, and I love it so much. I'm SOO glad that I found out about your music- it hits me in the feels every time I listen to one of your songs but I can't get enough.
