I always had a soft spot for the giant goomba maze since it was one of few where Mario didn’t manage to win. Sure he has plot armor, but that was a nice change, too.

You know, I really think those mazes should be an actual features in future games. Even the idea that its inside a giant moving fortress built in the monster's image... Its an awesome idea !

Rewatching these videos again, I kinda notice that in the older videos Mario acts more clumsy, cocky, and overconfident leading to some unnecessary death, but in the newer videos, while he still retains some of those traits, he is more cautious, intelligent and takes the levels more seriously and patiently leading to him surviving these levels with more than one live for some of them, most likely due to his past experiences showing that he does learn from them.

I remember a criticism of the big boom maze was Mario spoke too much in that one. I kind of get it. It is cool to hear Mario speak, but at the same time, so much dialogue can feel like it changes his establishment as a semi-silent character.
