    Hi Anisa, I just watched a couple of your videos and I am hooked! English is my second language and I like learning more about grammar. You're joyful and very good at English grammar. I really enjoy watching your videos and plan to watch them all. Thank you so much for creating and loading up the videos. BTW, I'm originally from Vietnam. I used to live in Vancouver, bc for 4 years, then moved to the USA in 1992. I have been here since then, and now I am in California. I still have some friends in Canada, and plan to visit them soon. Take care and God Bless you and your family!

    Thanks for watching. I love knowing about where people are from and the journeys that have led them to get to this point in their studies. Although I've not had the good fortune to visit Vietnam yet, Ottawa had lots of pho noodle restaurants. I'm definitely a fan of Vietnamese cuisine!

    I remember a teacher in high school used to love asking the class to write a story based on a picture. I either found it impossible to think of anything, or I thought of an outrageous story that he did not like.

    Anisa, I’m so appreciative of what you and your crew are doing! Your lessons are informative, engrossing and enlightening. I really answer you questions when you ask some, like being in a class 😂 It’s pretty obvious, you must have done a diligent effort to prepare your video lessons. You have a great expertise in teaching! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us! ❤Speaking about the topic, I was surprised to see the choice of the picture at the first moment. But then I found it was very interesting to get to know how to sound softer while speaking about this delicate moment of life. Thank you so many times! Please, go on! I’m looking forward to seeing your next work.

    Thanks for taking the time to write all that in such beautiful English. I love that you said 'you and your crew' but it's just me and my lazy sausage dog (she is not very helpful - especially when she barks at the postman and I have to pause and re-record a section!) If you actually answer my questions then you'll really like the newest video that I'm working on...it's all about the importance of giving full answers to questions, even when they're easy. (not more spoilers!)

    I see the mounties carrying a casket, covered with the Canadian flag, of a renowned leader who must have recently passed away. It seems to be the funeral of the Candian politician in the painted portrait with offering flowers.

    Really nice answer! I like the term 'offering' connected to flowers, but I would change it to the verb in this case. 'An offering of + noun' is a common structure used in religious services and at funerals. In this case, it would be 'an offering of flowers' Collocations can also be 'adjective + offering'. Such as, 'a sacrificial offering', 'a heartfelt offering', 'a floral offering', etc. A more general term is 'a floral arrangement'. I say it is more general because you can have a floral arrangement on your dining table, you can give one to your mother, you can have many at a wedding, etc. I didn't get into details about the flowers because the video was already really long. However, they seem to be roses. Using the specific name of the flower is not always expected, but common ones like 'roses, tulips, daisies, etc' are commonly known.

    @@TheOnlineEnglishTeacher-Anisa Hi teacher, I want to start to learn English but I am not sure which one I choose; British or American English? I can not decide. Which one correct option for new learner? And do you give private lesson. I have a problem especially listening

  • @TheOnlineEnglishTeacher-Anisa

    @TheOnlineEnglishTeacher-Anisa

    Hi, There is no 'correct' option, as it depends on your situation. For example, some of my students have colleagues from the UK, so it is very important to understand the UK accent. But, I had another student who was getting ready to live in Texas. I recommended that he take classes with another teacher who had a Texan accent, because it would help him more. Think about what you are interested in. Do you like American movies and series? Or, do you prefer British dramas? What about singers? Do you follow any sports? Do you think you might visit or live in one of these countries in the future? I used to have a student from Hong Kong who had a strong Australian accent. She had never lived in Australia, but she loved watching Australian dramas. So, over time, she adopted the accent. I do teach privately, but I'm not taking on any new students at the moment. Feel free to ask questions here, as I'm sure other people have the same questions. Anisa :)

    Hi, thanks for leaving your sentence. There is a lot going on in it. I would rephrase it to say 'I can remember what was likely the car of a prosperous customer who walked into our store last week.' But I'm not sure if the customer already owns the car or if you thought they might purchase it in the future.

    Hi Anisa. What’s the difference between Covered By and Covered with? kindly clarify.

  • @TheOnlineEnglishTeacher-Anisa

    @TheOnlineEnglishTeacher-Anisa

    Ай бұрын

    To be honest, most of the time, there's no difference and they are used interchangeably. But, if we are going to be very picky, we can say that 'covered by' is normally used when you cannot see the item underneath. For example, the bride's face was covered by a beautiful lace veil. 'Covered with' means that one item is stuck to the other. When I was in primary school, my mother covered my books with plastic wrap to keep them protected. The birthday cake will be covered with a thick layer of delicious frosting. 'Covered with' is also used in situations where there is an excessive amount of something. Imagine a young child covered with paint. In this situation, you can also use 'covered in' So, yes, there are differences, but they are so minor that they would never cause confusion or detract from the flow of information. In the grand scheme of things, I wouldn't worry about the difference at all. (Wow! I'm a huge lover of prepositions and I actually said that!)

    The painted portrait of a man must have passed away?

  • @TheOnlineEnglishTeacher-Anisa

    @TheOnlineEnglishTeacher-Anisa

    3 ай бұрын

    Unfortunately, in this case we can’t remove the relative pronoun because if you look at the sentence, the subject is actually ‘the portrait’, so it sounds as if ‘the portrait must have died’. This is, of course, impossible as it is an inanimate object. Correction: The painted portrait is of a man who must have passed away. Or “The painted portrait of a man who must have passed away is on display for mourners to view. I hope that makes sense! Anisa :)
