Gale would have been an option, but Gale has a pesky ex and an orb that makes making him a spawn difficuly((( Dominate the Absolute. Turn Shadowheart just to be completely sure. Make sure you keep the mind control of both Wyll and Wyll's dad for the easier transition of power. Enjoy having the whole Baldur's Gate under your control.

No doubt, but not quite on par with Ioulaum. Not much trumps ancient Netherese Archwizard who has transformed into an Elder Brain Lich besides other ancient Netherese Archwizards. Astarion is lacking the whole reality warping magical bullshit that goes along with being an Epic Level (i.e. beyond lvl 20) spell caster.

@@xenthalus As far as I know. Now that Mystra is back again wizards cannot cast above 9th level spells. So I doubt any living or not Archwizards of Netheril would be able to keep their power.

@archonofcommorragh1221 Depends on edition and lore of stories about characters. I'm a 2e/3.5e enjoyer who never cared as much for the newer, watered down editions. In both 2e and 3.5e there are rules for "Epic Level" spellcasting which represents mages who have pushed beyond typical mortal limits. Also lore wise, in various older books and short stories you have many examples of ancient Netherse Archwizards casting odd, unique spells that fall outside the standard level system. A prime example is Larloch who under multiple iterations of the goddess Mystra has been given consent to develop spells far outside normal bounds, some of which could potentially end the entirety of Faerun.

No mage in the current lore has access to that level of power and that includes any surviving Netherse wizards, Chosen like Elminster, Szass Tam etc. And it is irrelevant with the DnD edition although one can claim that the lore is such because of it.

Tbh I’m surprised people don’t point out how similar Loki and Astarion are more often. There’s a line from the Loki TV show that I feel sums up Astarion really well. “I don’t enjoy hurting people. I do it because I have to. Because I’ve had to. It’s all part of the illusion. It’s a cruel trick conjured by the weak to inspire fear…[I’m] a villain”. To which Mobius replies “I don’t see it that way”. That’s Astarion. He’s VERY multilayered. And I will stand by the assertion that his true alignment is neutral, not evil. He only hurts people because he has been hurt so much himself and it’s how he tries to cope with his trauma. He feels a need to hold power over others because he is terrified of being hurt and controlled again like he was for so long. It’s an act to make himself seem stronger and scarier than he actually is. And yes, acting out of fear rather than more malicious motivations doesn’t excuse the bad things Astarion does. But (at least in my opinion) it does separate him from being a true villain such a someone like Cahzador. I don’t think he truly takes pleasure in others pain just for the fun of it, even if he often acts like he does. What he actually likes is punishing people he believes deserve it…and sadly that’s a lot of people because Astarion has some major trust issues for pretty obvious reasons. However, something that I think is really interesting about Astarion is that his alignment can change a lot depending on what your Tav decides to do. He can be swayed to either side. You can lead him down a path that turns him into a fully fledged power-crazed villain, or you can help him to heal. And while he may not have a full redemption arc and become a goody-two-shoes like some of the other characters are…He does become a much kinder and more good aligned person. Astarion is only a villain if you see him that way. But in the end, your own kindness or cruelty is what will decide his fate. Kinda the same deal with Loki. He became more heroic because someone finally decided to give him some tough love and see him as something other than evil. But he could just as easily have become more evil if he was made to feel he had to be. I adore neutrally aligned characters tbh. There’s always so many layers to them. 😊

Dude I just finished the game and I’m so surprised that this was even an option tf. I realized at the end they were playable characters I didn’t even get in my camp and the end felt extremely smoothly. Like I didn’t feel like I was missing a character at all the story went through without any weird stuff even if I miss like 3 characters

@@THEBLACKELLEWOODS yeah that's what happened to me. You get a choice to stab Orpheus and take over control of the brain for yourself (it kinda offers you power) and then this scene plays out but with Tav instead. Your whole party seems to lose all personality and stumbled around like zombies

I don’t think I could stomach an evil run as tav or Durge but maybe as Astarion it will be more appealing. As Tav and Durge I feel responsible for all the companion characters and need to do my best for their sake. But if I’m Astarion just gotta look out for myself.

lol, me and my partner are on our first play through since December 8th and we only just started the battle at Moonrise. And we've pretty much forsaken our social life since then, except for the Christmas time😅. I wonder how people managed to go through so many play throughs - and that's only playing, not designing it!
