That and the fact that although they can't speak each other's language, the cultural (Anglophone vs Francophone Canada) divide that predisposes them to be hostile to one another enables them to understand one another perfectly while not understanding the particular words that are being said.
I don't think I've seen a better metaphor for the relationship between Ontario and Quebec

in Canada, french is one of the two languages and many english speakers can either speak or at least understand french so its not unheard of other than that this scene is spot-on, its perfect XD

Quebecer here, This is perfection. They nailed the Quebec Hicks at every sentence. Even a hidden Mitsou reference which is amazing. The only thing missing is Les Hiques calling the Ontarians "Têtes Carrés".

As an American I got to visit Montreal recently as I used to do expedited Deliveries. Funny how I had the expectation that the French were jerks, yet every one was cool. The only thing that didn't make sense to me was the people that didn't speak English.

CEGEP is really more like a prep school -- one year added between high school and university. As a result, the Canadian university system is more consistently good than the American one, which although it has some great universities also has a lot of really shitty ones.

folks are surprised that Wayne speaks french but as someone that grew up in rural canada like a third of people that own acreages and farms come from quebecois/acadian backgrounds...idk why. also i went to a french immersion school, and french is printed on everything so most people know at least a little
