For 25 I need BAP overhaul. I want to start CHL/SHL/NCAA and have one complete season before the playoffs. At the very least that would make it so if I go 1-32 overall I’d have a good starting point of 80ish Overall rating. Second, I’d like them to introduce height weight/ and stats selection similar to EASHL. Making Puck Moving D a thing. Stop putting Xfactors behind a certain player archetype. Maybe let me earn a silver Xfactor before I get to the show

@@dusty3033 Gran Turismo does a good job of that stuff...you can find a helmet and racing suit skin for your racer to look like a player of whichever team you like, it's great. I haven't played NHL since...20 or '21 I think, mostly BAP and some EASHL, it was ok, even though somehow they couldn't even count stats properly in BAP...you would think numbers would be an easy thing to track on a computer but I guess not.

The pressure system has such potential. However the visual effects on the ice take me away from the realism they have been trying to achieve for years. The pressure system can be in effect without the meter being visual on the ice. It could be added to the boards. Or in my opinion nowhere at all. You will know you have filled the meter to the max once you see the defending team struggling.

i play NHL really just because I like playing BAP as a sports RPG or sorts. I found NHL23 to be essentially the same exact game as 22 and was really turned off by it. BAP mode really hasn't received any attention since NHL22 but i am at least finding the gameplay somewhat evolved and somewhat better, but for the life of me, I don't know why my PK line rating goes in the tank even if i have good PK numbers. And if i hear "pricey pond hockey" ever again it will be too soon.

I feel like they toned down on all the cutscenes in BAP. Doesn’t seem to take as long to sim. Like they’ll pop up here and there but it’s not every single god damn day like it used to be. Maybe I just got lucky so far though

It’s garbage save your money

My big thing is the pressure system, it applies to everyone on the ice. As a defensive defense-men I work hard to manage my stamina and assure my bar is in the green so I can hustle if I need to. Now with the pressure system despite me working hard to conserve my energy and stride and keep that bar up suddenly my meter will just be sucked away because of the pressure system, despite my individual players actions to save my energy. Pretty lame.

It definitely drains too fast when you are barely moving. If I'm just angling off a forward into the corner without even moving much, there's no reason my stamina bar should deplete that fast, no matter how much pressure there is.

Listen I have been playing NHL games since at least ‘93 okay, and let me just say I am not happy with this game at all. Don’t get me wrong the changes the developers made are good in theory, but the big problem is the execution is very poor. It’s like someone took the gameplay sliders and turned the speed up just a little bit too much because the game isn’t properly balanced. I see a lot of players playing the same way they have in the offensive zone playing keep away like in previous years and the pressure system adds more frustration than anything else. The new hitting system looks great if you can manage to line up a hit but this is easier said than done. My point is that the game for the most part isn’t enjoyable this year at all. The gameplay and presentation in the NHL franchise has never really been the problem. The problem a lot of players have with NHL is how much copy and pasted modes we get year to year. IE HUT Be A Pro, World of Chel, etc. Those game modes haven’t really been touched in years and now in my opinion, the developers have gone and straight up messed with the gameplay mechanics to the point where it’s ruined. Not to mention that the first roster update doesn’t even have Connor Bedard on the Blackhawks and he has played preseason games for them. Honestly this year’s game is unbalanced and feels very rushed and unfinished. Easily the worst game since NHL 15. Btw this is coming from someone who was very excited for this year’s game. I have already gone back to ‘23 it’s way more enjoyable. Moving forward I wish NHL would add some type of free range sandbox mode similar to 2K. I know it’s highly unlikely because this would mean the developers would have to actually care and spend money to put out a decent product. NHL still has so much potential in they would put in effort.

I haven’t built sliders yet so idk. Probably would be a good idea to add for offline modes in 25 though

Have they fixed the passing? I have gotten frustrated whenever I pass it ends up going to a player that’s not open. That’s my only complaint with the newer games but it’s a major game play flaw

The only game mode they care about is a gambling simulator

I like 24, it’s not that people are upset that they’ve made so many changes and they want to 23. They just want changes they’ve been asking for. No one was asking for control changes, they were asking for gm connected, new features. I think the gameplay has improved and definitely has its bugs, but it’s just the changes of controls and ignoring of every other request

People have been asking dor changes in a postive direction fkr franchise and be a pro. The changes they make usuakly are worse than better. NHL 14 was way better at everything excluding gameplay.

I agree with lots of your points, on the stamina topic, I think very slight changes to modify it more will be done, but imma trust the pros on how exhausting it must be playing defense in the NHL, and how you described "holding the box" and being drained of energy without sprinting was draining you so much, I personally think little stutter steps while playing horizontal/defensive hockey while defending is way more exhausting and the way they designed it, portrays that imo!

Following up on that, how you said that the only player who had any sort of a stamina bar after killing a penalty was the player coming out of the box; I personally think that sounds pretty realistic considering buddy was chillin for 2 in the sin bin and the rest of the squads scrambling in their d-zone. I still think there will be lots of tweaks to the pressure systems, but they have the right idea I think!

I cannot pass the puck, without it bouncing off players stick. What am I doing wrong?

The longer you hold the pass button, the harder you’ll throw the pass. Maybe you’ve been holding it too long and send passes that are too hard to accept? That’s all I can really think of

I like the idea of a multi attribute based Michigan requirement. I would love to see an attribute system that rewards players for playing to that specific players strengths because it would impact overall roster building in franchise mode and give BAP player archetypes much more impact on overall gameplay. It would also hopefully discourage the 6'6 enforcer rosters on chel. Make it way easier to expose their weaknesses without getting crushed every two seconds.

There is a path to winning . It’s by customization of the controller lets people decide if they want reverse hit as x.

not decided yet if i will buy it.. maybe just will do the trial see how it is and then decide... is it worth to pay Easubcription to get the 10 hour Trial??

For me, this is the most fun version of the series since NHL 15. Still played that one as NHL 16-22 quite frankly sucked. And you can’t play NHL 12 on a PS4. Didn’t bother w/ NHL 23 as the previous versions had no variations in game play (awful goaltending, howitzer wrist shots by opponents, checking was near impossible, passes going awry all the time, etc.) just slightly better graphics. NHL 24 is fun and challenging for me, first time I’ve felt that in a LONG time. My guess is, those not liking it are the ones who spend weeks trying to perform a Michigan goal (press 🔺, then tap L3, then ▪️ eight times, twist the right joystick counterclockwise 1/4 turn, then ask Scaramouche to do the Fandango, etc.)

i haven't played the game but pressure system is the most interesting thing to me. I like the idea of playing real hockey and it actually being able to work rather than feeling forced to try cheap goals. I think it will be able to be tweaked rather easily and become more robust over time.

I'm telling you it works the exact opposite of how you think it does. For squad battles essentially the AI pressure you significantly easier. Your players and goalie both will lose energy meanwhile the AI don't really lose energy when you're pressuring them you have to be chucking pucks various times to get the goalie down. Pretty much it doesn't reward taking strategic shots. It's better to just send as many to the net as possible. Games shit tbh I regret spending so much on it already

Did they ever patch it up? Every time I load NHL23 it wants me to buy it at 60% off.

I remember nhl made a nba jam style game. I forgot the name but it was better than the past few years of this game.

I think the only things ea truly needs to do is add more pre-game so it gets you pumped for the game. Add medics when I player is to hurt to make it to the bench. Add the zamboni to the intermissions. Also change the Be A Pro especially after your done the rookie years where the coach tells you what to do get rid of it.

I would like see a full presentation TV broadcast. Or, at least be able to choose. More replays other than just goals as well.

This looks cool. The game play here actually looks pretty good. For me I only play Franchise Mode. I haven't really sunk my money into an NHL game since NHL 18. I got 19 for free with Xbox Live Gold, and that didn't seem like much of an improvement so I kept on playing 18. 20 came out, I tried it, hated it. Gave it a year. Tried 22 and thought it was way too easy to get a penalty for tripping in that game as it broke the experience, and the announcing was too over the top. I thought the gameplay in 22 was just overall not very good. So back I went to playing NHL 18 AGAIN. So is NHL 24 worth the upgrade? ... Liked the video by the way. Subbed!

Just download the most recent online rosters, and then make sure you activate it as your "active roster" he's there. You can see him in this video and theses are default rosters.

Michigan needs to be a rng skill, higher your hand eye or deking the higher chance it will work, with like 99 hand eye making it a 50% because it will be too strong of a move if anybody can consistently use it

I think RNG in a sports games should be removed whenever possible. Player skill should matter, especially in a PVP mode. But maybe making it RNG in offline modes would be fun for more casual players

You can get a similar experience by using circle (B) to hit. Though it comes at the cost of not having control over how hard you hit like you do with the new controls and you cannot cancel the hit like you can with the right stick. I think it's a good balancing act, making right stick the option with the most control but also giving a more casual option for players who prefer one button boom.

I played 23 a lot last year on club 3s. I bought this game 9:30am on release and refunded it by 5pm. Went back to 23 until they fix some of these gameplay features

Don’t commit until the animation is triggered. But when you see the player go down to flip the puck, take the body. You don’t need much of a bump to stop it but obviously it’s better if you hit him before he has a chance to get the puck in front of the goal line, cuz at that point it might bounce in even if you hit the guy.

idk if i would commit, there's a lot of bugs in BaP that ruin a career for good. i've experienced one with BaP goalie where i can never change my equipment again without the game crashing.

The game wouldn’t be as bad if they brought back the normal stick handling instead of using the right stick to overly puck protect, make A or X the puck protection again. I can barely stick handle left to right normally with this new puck protection system. So frustrating!!!!!!!!

L2 is nearly entire gone. No more unrealistic half pivots and lateral speed boosts. I was just getting really good at it, too lol. Shame I don't have it as a tool anymore but it was unrealistic af so its probably for the best haha

The skill timing is definitely tighter

For me, it's supposed to be challenging. The hitting system is a little frustrating because it's hard... it's supposed to be. And as you said, people will complain if there's nothing changed. People complain when things are changed. Be a Pro does need significant changes, but you have to keep in mind that EA is always on a time crunch. This year they decided to work on the actual gameplay and some tweaks to franchise. I'm good with that because the gameplay at its core is the backbone of the game. For the first time in nearly a decade, the game actually plays how a hockey game should play.

Yeah I forgot to mention that in the video. Penalties are definitely out of control. I have no problem with human players being penalized for poking at people's feet, but the AI takes a ridiculous amount of penalties and it turns a lot of games into powerplay fests.

The changes are intriguing. Some worked alright, some not as well but its the lack of prior presentation (that was in NHL 22), thr stale content, the huge array of existing glitches nevsr fixed, the new ones they create.. that is the issue. I know there is new people in charge but we have been giving them a pass since NHL 15. When do we draw the line and hold them accountable? Plus their montra has been lets focus on gameplay for 2 years in a row and we still cant have goalie intros, goalie changes when pulled, replays that show nothing but the ice, end of period replays that show a random hit instead of actual goals that happened, 49 overall goalies starting nhl games in franchise mode (cpu), cpu teams not having enough signed 24/50, contracts, BAP not updated ir reworked, the new celebrations remind me of NHL hitz which is cool (was great games) but they are promoting a simulation experience not an arcade one (which this game is overall). I could go on further but no real need.

Hitting is definitely overpowered right now and the dump nerf is ridiculous to point you can't even dump over defenders to get the puck out of the zone. It's like the upped one defensive tactic and nerfed another when as you said there needs to be a balance.

If you hold R2 (RT) instead of R1 (RB) when clearing, it’ll clear the puck the way it used to. As for hitting, hip checks are definitely OP but the regular right stick hitting seems okay to me so far

The big disappointment for me is that the old momentum system is still in the game n for WoC its really frustrating especially playing defense. Its obvious to me as a 80 attribute passer can sometimes string together the nastiest passes n then 5 minutes later he can't make a simple break out pass ffs. A lil more consistency, like i get it if your on a roll to buff the player but your character turns into superman sometimes n then he's a highschool player the rest of the time. I am glad they're trying different new stuff though but they really need to build a game from the ground up which i hope they have been doing that n its just not ready as that should take years but its ea so i also doubt it as they wouldnt want to spend the money so its shiny new bandaids on code over a decade old is what we'll probably get.

the pressure system blows

The idea of the pressure system is good. It's meant to make players on offense more willing to hold the puck and cycle instead of just taking shots off the rush like everybody usually does, and on defense it's supposed to make people more willing to freeze the puck with their goalie. There are multiple problems with it though. First of all it is way too arcady. I think that is what most people complain about. Also the effect is way too strong. The last issue is that by nerfing puck flips they have effectively eliminated one viable method of both clearing the puck out of your own zone and getting it deep into the opposing team's zone. Why they wanted to make puck possession a big focus and then decided to nerf dump and chase into the ground is beyond me.

I play mostly WOC but being a west player has always been a pain to find games in the region and now its takes forever to find a game with the find teammates then find a game thing they added. I only get a couple hours to play and most is spent searching i only get like 3-4 games going if im lucky

So some of these glitches and changes sound like the problem is just trying to create a whole new game from the ground up in a year. Maybe ill just skip this year, and buy next considering i bought 23 after 21, and still haven't truly played it yet... But i think this is promising

I understand the change in hitting and it’s not the same at all. I know that it is to make it more realistic but I feel that in WOC the old style should be implemented. The whole point of WOC is to be unrealistic so let me make huge hits for no reason without taking myself out of the play. Also I have found that when I switch players it rarely gives me the one I want/need.

The main complain about most of the things they added is “it’s not the same”. But the main complain last year is they didn’t change anything.

My issue is that they changed the controller setup in a way that makes playing difficult to those of us with disabilities. I have been playing these games since 2018 and this iteration for me has been borderline impossible to play.

I have never been good at these games, I enjoyed playing on the easier difficulties. It's not a skill or a 'get good' issue either; if I could get good I would.

I've complained plenty on the EA forum lol. EA marginalized the disabled player base. I love the new style of gameplay and controls seem cool, but I can't play the game with one hand as I have for years prior.

Why are there still no college players? With NIL deal, I don’t see why this is still an issue?

I can’t answer that for you. I don’t know what $100 is worth to you, and what it takes for you to be satisfied. Is it perfect? No. Is it a home run? No. Is it way different than previous games? On the ice yes, but offline game modes are basically the exact same.

Franchise mode. CPU takes penalties to make you lose because the games are scripted. Again. Not one penalty that was called against me was a user penalty😂 EA forces players to play Ultimate team for any game so you spend money.

lmao pay me? Buddy I couldn't even get a review copy because the community manager is still mad about a tweet I posted about him not reaching out to the community enough. Plus I made a video about how stupid it was that the x factor edition players didn't get the day one patch despite spending extra to play early. I also spent most of this video talking about things that need improving. I'm not just gonna trash the game to get rage views. I say good things when I see things I like, and bad things when I see things I don't. Then I get called a hater or a shill depending on what I post that day LOL. Doesn't matter to me though, I have receipts of making both good and bad comments about the game. Stay mad.

I think every player should still be able to TRY the Michigan, but it should just be a percentage chance of making it, so Zegras tries it, has a WAY better chance then Joe Blow McGoo, who has a 1 in a million chance. Basically make it so its so pointless to try with the bad players, but i want some payoff for that amazing attempt when you get Kassian to pull it off 😆😆

I think it could also be tied into the dump button, so your bad character tries it, and it doesn't work, it just flings the puck up in the air, or pushes it forward a bit, and takes your stick off the puck for an easy steal attempt...

Change can be good, but it's all on how its executed. We also have to remember that this franchise has been going down hill for so so long, that when they finally do provide change, it feels too late. Presentation, in all honesty, is the exact same. There are additions, thwre are tweaks, but the fact it feels lightyears away from FC24, and that it can still be compared to NHL 2k10 and that game still holds up better (presentation wise...and feature wise) is just...it's sad. Fight engine, same for years. Creation suite, no changes besides how you navigate it. Like, this is NHL 23 in dark mode. I get gameplay is different. But it honestly feels like a "too little too late" with no real work anywhere else that i think the fan base has had it. It wasn't about just gameplay, it's about depth. Game just came out and the feeling is already "welp, guess we'll see what they can do in 25". It sucks to say that.

They changed staff at the higher end of development this year. It’s their first year building the game and we see this many changes. Yes I agree the game stagnated for years but the new devs can’t fix everything in one year. It’s a very positive step they took this year.

​@@OneTeeGlorythen they should have taken more time to develop it. This is one of the problems, making excuses on why fanbase keeps getting stomped on. No more excuses. This game is not made by an indie company but by a AAA company. The fact that the community got the opposite from what they have been asking for years, speaks volume on how little they care about the player base.

Just my opinion, but I think EA has had that pressure system for years. Going back to NHL14. Now I think they have to incorporate it into the game so fans dont start yelling ice-tilt, and CPU boosts

Oh no not at all. The pressure system completely tanks your movement after like 10 seconds, it’s way more harsh than any bounce people blamed ice tilt for. However, the system has been working in the background as a system to control audio and crowd reactions for a few years, making the crowd more amped up when you apply constant pressure. But the affect it has on physicals and goalies especially IMO are nowhere near what we’ve seen before

The pressure system has always been there we've seen it in 23 the difference, however, is that they made sure that your own AI teammates are even MORE sporadic then they ever have been before. It gives the illusion of the pressure system being amped up when in reality isn't by much. I am getting less support from my AI then I ever have before making me feel like I am doing everything on my own. NHL 24 gives me the impression that the devs STILL have not watched nor are aware that hockey is a team sport. Unless they have ran out of ideas on how to make the game more challenging hence still making teammate AI crappy thus giving us unbalanced piece of garbage.

@OneTeeGlory it is absolutely no different than the previous installments. Movements and stamina were always part of the offensive pressure. The only difference is that they added a bar that fills up and that is all.

They need to change or take out the pressure system . It’s bad . I’ll have 75% energy , pressure system turns on , I have 80% energy. My guy is slower and a slug with the pressure system on. Why 🤣 like wtf.. literally just makes no sense how it’s set up.

Let me load up to hit someone...instead of just hitting them. I hope they send an update and revert back to the old way of hitting

When you want to throw a big hit in hockey, not just a shove, you do run the risk of getting burned. It’s appropriately represented in the game, and adds a skill gap to hitting for online play. You can’t just throw truculence on and hold the stick to demolish everyone who comes near anymore.

Did you not watch the video or are you just ignoring all the things I said that need improving? Plus I literally bashed them for not giving the day one patch to X factor edition players a few days before this. The community manager doesn’t even like me because of how honest I am, so I couldn’t even get a review copy, much less get paid for the review. GTFOH

Hitting sucks. Even when u time it perfectly, the hit isnt like 23. Plus they make it easy with dummy controls. U can have reevo michigan behind the net. Completely realistic.

The on-ice graphics, pressure meter on the ice and AWFUL player spotlight celebrations need to go. Skating needs to be better..

It’s not good but it’s better than any NHL game of the Ps4/ Xbox one era.

Nhl 13 was the best nhl by far the fact you could host your own lobbies playing 6v6 and pick a real nhl team

@@AtTheHandle 14 was easily 10 times better than 13 so yeah it does lol. But 14 is a tiny bit overrated, NHL 15 (the PS3/360 version, not the next gen shitshow) was better. Same elite game as 14 but they fixed the puck physics. 15 last gen and Legacy were where it was at forreal.

NHL games have been the same since nhl12 other than the x factors that only make sense in madden

I just got the game coming from NHl 19. One thing that kills me is the play by play. It is awful. It is so stilted and white bread. I hate it. NHL announcers are one of the best parts of the game, and these two don't do it for me. Also, the lightning quick interstitial displays of a player that is on screen for a micro second is annoying and useless. Are attention spans so burned out that a picture of a player and their stats on screen for even one full second too much for us? Meanwhile the gameplay itself is so sluggish I feel like I’m watching a beer leauge game. I've had to completely jack up the gameplay settings and turn off the penalties because the refs totally ignore the slider settings.

Definitely better then EAFC 24

"Its not the same game every year" tell that to be a pro mode which hasnt seen any changes in years and gets the same reused animations etc. Be a pro needs an entire overhaul before I pay anything over $20 for one of these games.

That’s specifically why I said I was disappointed with the lack of updates to modes in the video. But as far as gameplay goes, this is a huge difference this year

I'm still playing NHL 20 online mode because I still feel the game play speed is decent and the game does not have the awful woman commentator. Watched a few other NHL 24 reviews and the game play looks sluggish and arcade life.

The game sucks. Changing the controller buttons was just dumb

2024 is way too complicated. It’s a hockey game….make it easier for casual gamers. F the complainers. You have to be a computer scientist to body check on hybrid.

That what learning is all about . I loved the 94 controls but ..time goes on ..things change .spent some cash to get decent players .got mostly all the prototypes but no icons or fantasy players . I just want Mario Lemieux, Cale M and Nathan McKinnon . So far so good for now ... hitting is hard and hip,checks are hard as well . Just bring 94 controls back .hopefully on a patch NHL 24 almost is the real deal .

How do you feel about communication now since rivals rewards? Lmfao ea will always get them micro transactions. A game so heavily focused on micro transactions should be a $30 game not $100 to $150!!!

idk I don't play any of the gambling modes in sports games so I'm pretty happy with my $100 total spent for the game, honestly.

It literally is the same game every year. EA needs to stop using its garbage proprietary engine. Nothing has changed. There is winning at this point. They need to rebuild this from the ground up. They haven’t made any big changes. Adding a pressure system is not a big change. It’s a minor tweak. And a flawed one at best. The graphics are still last gen. The menus are clunky, slow and unresponsive. The soundtrack sounds like a 13-year old girls Spotify playlist, the player information is dated and just copied over from previous years (ex. Nick Schmaltz is listed as a centre and a two-way forward. He’s never been a two-way forward at any point in his career and he’s been playing on the RW almost his entire NHL career). I can go on and on but honestly there’s no point. All of the criticisms fans have been pointing out for years have fallen on deaf ears. Honestly, I’ve booted up NHL 24 a total of 3 times since launch and each time I spend a ton of time adjusting settings and preferences, trying different game modes and just experimenting with the game in general and I just find myself quitting mid game and turning it off. I’m someone who puts in well over 500 hours every season into NHL and I just can’t do it this year.

Easy to talk to EA NHL creators lol they take things out and then put them back in under a different name just like Madden. Hopefully this game is really gimmick based I'll stick NHL 22

I’m saying this as someone that was happy that the game was gonna have changes but the way the game plays i’d rather have a carbon copy of 23

I've played hockey for over 20 years. This is a good game. Is it perfect? Of course not. You actually need to have some form of hockey knowledge and timing in this game to be successful. Most fun I've had in at least four years if not 9

It absolutly is the same game. So what they did some work in physics. The base of the game is exactly the same. Be a Pro? Same everything. Hut? Same everything. GM Mode? Guess what, same everything. They make dozens of millions of dollars every year from sales alone and this is the best they can do? No. They have changed very little from NHL 16 to now. 8 years will have made them hundreds of millions of dollars.

The entire meta of the gameplay has changed. tbh if you can't tell the difference between this and 23, or even worse, this and 16, then the game just isn't for you, my man.
