Right? He didn't look awful before. Certainly looked British, they have a certain look to them sometimes, but for a British person, he looked pretty normal. Could've stood for a rhinoplasty, if he really didn't like his nose, but definitely not to the point that he's got it at now. (Not that there was anything WRONG with how he looked before, but his nose was certainly a prominent feature, and I know how that can be... I got my ears pinned the summer after 8th grade because I was teased for them sticking out at like a 90 degree angle.)

Like, I personally don't think there should be limits on things like clothes, makeup, what you eat, etc. I mean, I know white people get hell for wearing their hair in braids, claiming it was first done by africans therefore not a 'white' thing. But I have Scandinavian/Viking ancestry, and according to history it's possible that they too, also wore braids in their hair (they favored hairstyles, it's thought) that kept their hair back and in a fashion that made it harder for enemies to be able to grab it and disadvantage them in a fight. So, should I claim anyone not african or directly Norse should NOT wear braids in their hair? No lol. Let people do what they want for the most part. This guy though....ya it's too far. If I were Jimin, I'd be really creeped out haha.

sadly many people abuse their power. I am sure these doctors know what they are doing. praying on the vulnerable is not something new, and it is very easy to manipulate people with low self esteem and not reevaluate mental stuff. Oli had a life before, he was a kid, he was a ‚normal‘ person, we tend to forget that once someone get‘s publicity. I can‘t help but always see peoples vulnerable inner child crying out, but the adult is just ignoring that. I don‘t know what happened in Oli‘s life. We all have a need to feel seen, heard and witnessed, but something happened that this need of his is being expressed in such a way. I‘m not against beauty procedures, I know they can influence people in positive ways, if they are well thought out, but wanting to look like a completely different race obviously comes from a deep place of self shame and low self worth. Like how much do you have to dislike yourself to genuinly want to look like a korean idol. And it‘s sad bc our society enforces us feeling horrible about ourselves This is a very layered and deep conversation. The doctors are probably in the same boat, they exploit peoples vulnerability for money, don‘t know how happy you can be with a life like that.

His doctors clearly haven't even looked at jimin's face to begin with, they keep making oli's nose more and more pointy and proyected and jimin's is the oposite, is flat, small and poitning downwards. Also like you said, bone structure between the two are worlds apart. In the end, the biggest problem with oli is not even the jimin stuff but the fact that he now "identifies" korean.

Oli seeks out plastic surgeons they can work with that will accept their requests and take their money. I’m sure many of the surgeons they’ve spoken to have said “you will never look like Jimin” or something to that effect, but then Oli will just move onto the next one. There are always more corrupt people in any industry who put money over morals and over doing what’s right for the client/patient. Oli is going to just go for ego-stroking yes-men who laugh all the way to the bank after they keep giving basic surgeries and messing up Oli’s features more and more. Oli knows they need to go to a therapist, probably, but doing this internet thing is more interesting. I mean, they’ve got all us talking about it.

People really need psych evals before being approved for surgeries. If your best friends who love you the most are telling you to stop, maybe listen?

Who said there isn’t any phenotypical difference between people? This isn’t exactly new information. Eugenicists from the Jim Crow era used skull shapes to “prove “ black people were inferior. The Human Genome project is much more precise in determining ethnic ancestry. Humans are really diverse, as different populations adapted to different regions, as they migrated from Africa. All the distinctive features we categorize and label as race is just an arbitrary social construct.

@@kyitty there is somewhat of a surgery for that. to make the double eyelids look more asian, there's a process where they inject fat near the eye fold to fill it in, since Caucasians usually have deeper eyes and Asians don't. the thing is it still looks super unnatural

There needs to be more standards within the industry for what doctors tell their patients. I just clicked on this out of curiosity but this was actually super informative as someone who draws faces. I find Asian face types to be some of the most difficult to draw bc these subtle bone structure differences are hard to get right. All of your characters can just end up with the same face if you aren't paying attention. Thanks for putting it in a way that was easy to understand!

This was a great video with spot on points regarding patient education to understand and temper unrealistic expectations. Oli was on “Botched” and the doctors told him NOT to touch his nose again. Body dysmorphic disorder is so sad. He’s addicted and he won’t/can’t stop. The overfilled lips seems so common with people with BDD. He’s already in the “uncanny valley”

Literally. The doctors on Botched REFUSED to do anything surgical to Oli (I think they were asking for a rhinoplasty specifically that time around) because the doctors were like "look, if we do what you want us to do, you run the risk of nasal collapse. This video was very educational and well-explained. I would have liked it better if the commentary audio was not softer than the video he was studying.

He didn't even look unattractive in the before plastic surgery pictures, in fact quite handsome.

This video format is messy. It's super confusing when you talk over the footage while it's still running and the people in it are talking. Your voice is so low compared to theirs that it's incomprehensible, but it's loud enough to mess up comprehension of the footage dialogue. This sort of video critique of another video is best done with some editing, not as a spontaneous one shot (unless you always pause the footage to talk). If we could see your face we'd be able to register when you're reacting/talking, but even overlaying one of those wiggly soundwave designs to match your speech could be enough to at least differentiate where that muttering background voice is coming from.

You typically find aegyo sal on children or people who are younger so basically having this feature signifies youth, being young, cuteness, etc. Thank you for posting this because I was trying to remember the name of it and now I learned that it means "cute meat" which is a little odd to look at as a phrase

I agree. He looks further and further away from Jimin. I mean Hollywood has been doing “yellow face” makeup for a long time and even they can tell him he did the opposite to his eyes as what the sfx makeup artists would do. An example of this would be Shirley Mclaine in My Geisha. Or even what they did in Cloud Atlas.

Absolutely. I’m mixed myself. Guatemalan, German being the two main parts of me. I have very upwards tilted eyes from my indigenous ancestry and that’s what at least irl makes people able to see I’m not a white Personal despite being blonde and light skinned. Eyes are a good indicator of ethnicity. What Oli did just emphasizes Caucasian to me. There no way he’ll ever look Korean. Even mixed people often lean one way or the other. It’s bone structure. He has upper eyelid surgery and it just made his eyes more deep set and round. Many Caucasians, specially men have hooded eyelids and he got rid of that wich defeats his proclaimed purpose.

I've been seeing alot of people these days arguing that race is a social construct and that there is no such thing as different bones or facial structures between ethnicities. I always thought that was bullocks, I mean any basic amount of research shows that different ethnicities and races have different features, but this channel really helps prove that

I don't get what you're saying.. is the point that Dr. Youn is Asian? Because it would definitely be embarrassing to go to an Asian doctor and ask them to make you look Asian, but Asian doctors exist in Britain too..

I hope you can do a commentary video on his more recent looks. He's gone on botched and has had more surgeries since they filmed the video you reacted to.

You explaining what fillers do to the upper lip and making mouth open at resting state makes me consider what i’ve been thinking for a while- that there’s also a possibility that the members jm or nj or even sj also do lip fillers but not as extreme as oli london….there are times I notice before major album drops/promotions that their upper lips are less plump and then suddenly are really plump when promoting. I’ve thought about it a lot. Not in a bad way, cos obviously if you do a procedure like this there’s a correct way of doing it where it looks more ‘natural’ and not forced. Food for thought 🤔

He's in his 30s/40s, the oldest age for that is 25/26 (not counting idol exceptions but those don't apply to him, obviously) he thinks he's an idol, which probably means he thinks he's exempt. But there's always the possibility of him not knowing about the mandate at all considering he knows nothing about the country

I’ve just had a surgery that was necessary and the recovery is agony. I honestly don’t get why anyone would put themselves through a surgery unless it’s a necessity. Every time you go under a general anaesthetic there’s a small risk of never waking up again. I’m so happy my parents raised me to be confident with what I was given. I can’t imagine hating myself so much that I want to be somebody else.

It’s gonna be so interesting to see what people like him will look like in their 60s. I just can’t even someone with skin like theirs ageing.

I’m absolutely loving this series, but as some other people have pointed out, everything is kinda messy. I can’t tell when you are talking for half the time, and the video audio is way louder than your own. I recommend not talking over the video, too. It can get difficult, especially if someone isn’t completely used to your voice, when you are talking at the same time as the video. Also, please pause the video when you are talking!!!
