The nest part of this scene is that the game does a fantastic job of actually telling people about the world they're in. Even if you have never interacted with Star Wars content before. This game gives you a great idea of the world you're in, everyone gets an introduction. But Vader needs no introduction. The player instantly knows who he is the moment they hear him breathe.

What makes it better, is this is one of those instances where less is more. Even if you aren't a SW fan, everyone has at least heard the breathing. And it's the fact that Vader only comes in at the end of the game that really makes it work. Even though I personally liked stuff like the Obi-Wan series and Rebels, they had a problem that they used him too much. The original trilogy worked because Vader was only on scream when something big was happening. He was this man/machine that when he comes in, you automatically know crap is going to go down. And in this case, beside the breathing, he has no foreshadowing or proper introduction. But it works due to that past involvement in other media. So when you hear that breathing, many people get chills, not because it's a pop culture icon, but once he says, "you have failed me inquisitor" and turns on the lightsaber, you know exactly who this man is. Maybe not by name, but using this and Trilla's fearful reaction, you know this is a dark force of pure chaos. Basically looking into death itself.

That’s a matter of debate. Every second, every slight movement in the suit tears his wounds open again and causes immense pain. The pain makes him more powerful.

I find it interesting how Darth Vader in this game is a boss you don't defeat, you HAVE to run from him, that's just how terrifying he is

No matter how many times I see this scene you can feel the tension and the fear. This is peak Vader and he is terrifying.

Exactly. Vader is the embodiment of death itself in this case. What really sells the scene before the fight, the cutscene, is 3 big things. 1. The breathing. Even if you aren't a fan of Star Wars, you at least know the breathing. 2. Trilla's reaction. Throughout the game, Trilla has not shown to be scared of defeat/death by a jedi. But when she feels Vader's presence, she is terrified. When someone like this is scared of someone, you know they shouldn't be messed with. 3. Cere's defeat. Even though she comes back later, the fact that Vader doesn't even flinch shows you he isn't to be messed with. As shown with one of the gamers in this video: Kruzadar, she isn't that fazed or even really suprised by the first 2 points, but once Cere is thrown off, that is what gets her hooked. Dang, what a great introduction.

Right before you hear his breathing, the game just falls silent. No dialogue, no music. Then you start hearing Vader's faint breathing and once it's clear it's him, Anakin's Dark Deeds starts playing. Not overly loud either. The whole vibe IMMEDIATELY changed. Vader just has that insane presence to him. Especially in a game where no one even talked about him and he only shows up at the very last minute, he still manages to be the single most memorable thing about the game, which says a lot, considering it was actually a good game. The way Cere just goes "it's him..." says it all. No explanation needed. That's the second most dangerous man in the galaxy that just showed up and evetyone knows it

This is the CORRECT way to introduce Vader. First the scene shows Trilla being held captive by an unknown force as we hear loud footsteps coming closer, and we don’t know who it is until the breathing becomes audible, and then we see Trilla fill with fear as she knows by now that her life is over. The fear is shared by Cere and Cal as they look in helplessly as Vader strikes her down before tossing off Cere effortlessly. The “fight” itself is also brilliant, first you obviously try to combat Vader, thinking that this will be like other Star Wars games where you can in fact win the fight before getting owned immediately and likely figuring out that you can’t. After a few failures you’ll notice the actual way out, and even then the chase is intense as you barely escape the grasp of the fearsome Sith Lord.

Scenes like this really show what Palpatine meant when he told Yoda "Lord Vader will become more powerful than EITHER of us". Imagine if Vader won on Mustafar.

People frequently forget that Vader was a DEMON in the Expanded Universe. You had to have INSANE plot armor to square up with Vader and walk out in anything but a casket. Cal and Cere had the right idea, because **RUN** is the only way you survive a Vader encounter if your name doesn’t end in “Skywalker,” “Tano,” or “Kenobi.” And even then, EVERY SINGLE ONE of those names listed had to flee a fight with Vader because he was THAT strong.

He's "the chosen one" a battle hardened vet, an anguished rage filled Darth, and a general all around monster that killed hundreds of Jedi. Fighting shouldn't be a realistic option.

The fact that trilla started crying when she heard the breathing says it all about Vader. She just knew she was dead.

Takeaway: I've seen whole armies turn and run at the mention of his name

This game does an amazing job of building you up. You feel your character going stronger and stronger from start to finish.. But then it cuts you down to size. "hey, this is strength. You're still just a bug in the grand scheme of things".

I would love an alternate timeline of this game where you have the choice to surrender and become an inquisitor or fight/run
