I like to think that Oak invented the electronic Pokédex, but he wasn't necessarily the first to record all the Pokémon
@dragonspirit996
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, same. It makes sense too because there's no way people have lived with so many pokemon until the technological age without learning about them, but totally fair that an electronic pokedex is new technology.
@jacobwansleeben3364
Жыл бұрын
I also believe that the Pokedex from Legends: Arceus isn't the first Pokedex. It's just the first one for the Sinnoh region. I'm pretty sure there's NPC's that say people and Pokemon get along better in other regions. Presumably, those regions already have Pokedex's.

We canonically know that Rowan was the one who taught and inspired Oak to create first electronic Pokedex. Rowan himself clearly got inspired by history of his own region, that very likely was passed to him by his Ancestor. The issue is - Hisuian story happens only around 100-200 years before main storyline (it's not the actual Ancient Hisui), as it reflects post-Edo, early Meiji era in Japan. It shows mix of traditional Japanese culture and early influences of the rest of the world, as the isolation era has ended. And the clothing for characters like Laventon can allow us to pinpoint the time period of the world - as he is wearing a 20th century suit. Kamado is very likely Rowan's grandfather or great grandfather.
@mjm3091

Also Laventon is officially credited to make first ever PokeDex in the world. And we know that before Oak's genius electronic invention - other trainers has made paper Pokedexes. Even characters like Red and Green canonically worked using paper Pokedexes that were used as the base for Oak's Pokedex (they are the source of the entries - as Lets GO games are the canonical Kanto versions for the Mega-Evolution universe and were the first users of Electronic Pokedexes).

The Cyndaquil line is accurate without constant flames, by the way. They only emit flames when they're excited, alert or angry. Also, Laventon as in Lavender. So, LAV-EN-TON.

Yep, they're not like Charmander line. The Cyndaquil line's flames are for defense and attack.
The beginning of this game always cracks me up. Like "oh...I'm getting time kidnapped by pokemon god...mmkay."
I really like how Rei the male protagonist and Akari the female protagonist have different diologe depending on who you picked to play as. Rei comments on you being a outsider and a misfit when Laventon suggests you join, but Akari asks if he even told the commander about you yet befor suggesting you join
@montelt7103
Жыл бұрын
It kinda shows a difference in personalities. Rei is someone to judge someone based their situation and how they present themselves, rather than take a higher up into account. This would imply a slightly more brash approach to things. That’s not a bad thing, most people would be the same. Akari is someone to immediately jump to whether or not a higher up was consulted before considering the person’s situation or how they present themselves. This would imply a more responsible approach to things. Not to say it’s better than being brash, it just depends on the situation and context.
@mjm3091

It also kinda reflects the personality differences in most original gender based rival co-protagonist. May/Brendan, Lucas/Dawn all have different approach to the protagonist.
Cameras were actually invented before denim was. This game seems to take place around the 19th century, so a camera is hardly the most anachronistic thing around.

@@JBreezyy7292 Nah, it's definitely Meji Restoration. Sinnoh is based off of Hokkaiden, which was behind in technological introductions until well into the Meji Era. Considering that the other characters in Jubilife come from outside of Sinnoh and at least know that the technology exists is consistent with that real time period.
In the Japanese version the pronunciation of Arceus is what you guys (and most people) originally expected. In some other countries it is also pronounced like that. "Arkeus" has been used in English-language stuff for a while tho, I assume to avoid it sounding like "arse".

I think Oak invented the first DIGITAL pokedex but people kept records on paper and stuff before that.
@galonski64
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think it like the first handheld device, compared to be kept in books and large computers
Old Pokemon: stay away from the grass New Pokemon: oh how has the tables have turned!!
I think the implication now is that Oak created the first digital Pokédex that automatically records information about Pokémon. Because lets be reasonable, of course people would have recorded about and categorized Pokémon in the past, just as they did animals. Also, the game isn't really ancient. It takes place in the Pokémon world's equivalent of the 1870s, as the Galaxy Expedition Team parallels the real-world development commission established by the Meiji government in 1869 to pioneer Hokkaidō's primative frontier. Galaxy Hall is even a replica of the development commissions main office, Hokkaidō Hall, which was built in Sapporo in 1871. The Galarian influence also parallels the Meiji government's initiative to westernize Japan. As for the name change, it also follows after the real world. Hokkaidō was formerly known as Ezochi, and it was during the Meiji Restoration that the name Hokkaidō was coined for the island. So Hisui is the historic name for the region, and the name Sinnoh is chosen later as a result of the games story.
The opening sequence gave me major Pokémon Mystery Dungeon vibes. A shiny swirly screen? A mysterious voice (shortly revealed to be Arceus) talking to you? Choosing a character and then falling into an unfamiliar world?

“Unfamiliar and yet..similar” I’m betting the player character is in fact from modern day Sinnoh considering the character design choices are all similar to it at the start.
Since you're the first LP'er who I've watched play this game with the female protagonist, I'm really surprised to see that the opposite character actually has different dialogue depending on the gender of your protagonist; that is to say, Rei's lines are written a bit differently to his counterpart Akari if you chose a male protag instead. That's pretty cool!
The time period seems to be based on 19th century. That isn't *that* far into the past. The camera looks too modern, but photography had been invented already.
Arceus: You will be sent to a time not your own, so I shall bestow upon thee a gift to aide thee. Bloo: Uh... is this my iPhone? Arceus: It is called the Arc Phone. It has self-installing apps and never needs to be recharged. Bloo: So it's an iGod. Arceus: No, it tis an Arc Phone. Bloo: iGod!! Arceus: *facepalm*
I still hold that the “Pokemon get real small” thing is just some 18th Century crackpot theory. Doctors back then were like “you got ghosts in your blood, have some cocaine”.

I've seen scaffolding and construction stuff all over the village. I hope the village gets upgraded little by little as the story progresses. But if not, I'm okay with it too. It's such a charming little village and fairly spacious as well. :)
If you think about it, Professor Oak made the Pokedex device, but the ones here are just what they used before. It's like the difference between a map and a GPS
I wasn't sure how I felt about how you say, "Laventon" but it's grown on me. I really love it!
interesting! I choose a male model for my player character, and the dialogue Rei uses is slightly different in some parts from what the girl version says! same main idea, but maybe kinda like... slightly different flavor in their word choice?

That's a thing in almost all Pokémon games where the unselected player character shows up as an NPC. They fill the same role but have distinct enough personalities.
I love how bdsp had some dialogue/book text changes to hint towards events in this game
Fascinating tidbit: if you DON'T pick Cyndaquil, it hangs out on a brick oven in the Professor's office!
There are many things done well w/ this game, one of the best being a notification sound when a shiny pokémon spawns.

Just wanted to pop in and say that I'm happy this game is finally out as it's a game I've been excited about for a while, though since I want to play the game blind for myself, I'll probably wait until after I've gotten through a good chunk before watching the vid/possible multiple vids. That being said, I'm glad you two are fitting this into the schedule and would love to see this turn into a full series at some point, whether that's now or later (Of course, with all the other playthroughs you're doing right now, I don't imagine you'd want to clog together too many games at once so if you decide to save the full series for a while, that would be perfectly understandable.) In any case, I hope you two enjoy this game and I can't wait to play it for myself :).
And the running home from Foster’s Home continues. There was Mac and Cheese, then Bloo Cheese, and now there’s Bloo Rei…..

Please continúe this,i love your channel and this looks really fun!
Oh I can tell this is going to be a great LP. I'm excited to see more.
Wow! I honestly wasn't expecting this until after Brilliant Diamond finished! I thought it'd be weird to go alternate between two very different styles of Pokemon. I still think you should finish the Nuzlocke before you finish this game. Either way I'm excited!
"looks like dawn" well makes sense since its set in the past of that same region, making the very first pokedex and seeing as she said she is 15 she would have some exsperience going on adventure which exsplain why she seems to know what she is doing

I say both accidentally, but I personally believe the correct way is Ar-kay-us like Ark (or was it Arch?) and Deus. Also cause of the RKS system from Sun and Moon with Silvally, which is basically a man-made version of Arceus.

It seems strongly suggested that the protagonists of choice are indeed Lucas and Dawn. Actually, what if Akari/Rei is the ancestor of Lucas/Dawn...? As for Team Galactic...it seems more likely that Cyrus may have used the Galaxy Expedition Team's image as an inspiration.
Oak made a pokedex that automatically records data of pokemon, but back in the day they had to record everything on paper.
I’d like to see more of this. It feels like instead of making a remake of normal quality for gen 4 they instead made some remasters that didn’t really improve on the originals at all and seemed to have very little effort put into it, and a super high quality game they put all their effort into with unique gameplay and fancy graphics
@erickchristensen746

The art design for the Gen 4 remake was completely intentional dude, did you pay any attention to its development? Not only that but the game is a REMAKE dude, a remake of the original doesn’t mean they have to add or change things, even though they did and people ignore that and just bitch and complain anyway. The Demons Souls Remake has absolutely nothing different or added to it other than the graphical upgrade and was a complete success because of it. The Gen 4 remakes are a great remake of the OG and we’re a great success, people are just privileged and spoiled to the point of expecting too much.

I'd say the game's time period is based on the late 1800s or early 1900s in Japan. If I remember correctly, westernization started to appear more readily during that time period, so while you would more commonly see traditional clothing in more rural villages, it wasn't strange to see more western or modern style clothing in larger towns or cities. (Think of Demon Slayer when Tanjiro is in the city and people are wearing more western style clothes. Plus, there are trains. Time seems funky like that.)
