I have a beautiful blue spruce in my backyard and the new buds are ready for picking. I made myself a blue spruce bud tea this afternoon, and I would say it has a nice soft citrus taste. Looking to freeze some for winter months.

Lonnie, you are absolutely one of the coolest, salt of the earth kind of guys I've ever had the fortune of being able to learn from. You're aware of your environment, and you care about it. You also care about your fellow human being because you're willing to share your knowledge and teach. Thank you for all the things you share with us. Peace, and be well.

I've probably passed thousands of spruce in my young life (Exploring the Black Hills regularly), never realizing that if I just took a few minutes to gather some tips that I would be rewarded with a refreshing cup of tea upon my return to camp. And I imagine on the trail the next day that a cool sip of spruce tea would perk me right up! I'll be implementing Operation Spruce Tips as my SOP when enjoying a day in the woods (Eastern Virginia) from now on, thank ya, Lonnie. - God Speed

I greatly wish for you to have the time to see this comment. I want to thank you for your video posts. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your teaching and mentoring, and frankly, you remind me tremendously of my deceased father. I miss him desperately and your videos remind me of how connected to our earth, we really are. Or of how connected we need to be. I am very aware of how ill equipped the next generation of humans, really are. I'm actively preparing for a hick-up in our flash of existence, and I hope to be my generations, Gen X, teacher. And mentor if I am fortunate enough to be valued as such. Thank you for helping remind me of how I am not so truly dependent on technology once I take myself away from it. Thank you for helping to keep alive the core values of humanity.

I have what appear to be white spruce in my yard and, after seeing another video about making tea from various evergreens (from The Outsider), I decided to give it a go with those today. I like it! I really like the flavor of it for some reason. It's cool that I have that little treasure right in my yard and plan to make regular use of it over the winter. I also have some white birch trees nearby, so I'm thinking of trying birch bark tea as well.

Mmmm... so nice and relaxing to have that spruce tea! Thanks! White spruce gets its nicknames -- cat spruce and skunk spruce -- honestly. Now we can add 'wet dog spruce'. ; ) Last night I used my spruce tree balsamic vinegar to grill some fresh picked apricots and summer pears. Delicious! Every kind of spruce tastes a little different. I really like the Colorado Blue Spruce, but it's prickly! Nice job with the identification tips, too!

Thank you Lonnie! I have yet to make a pine needle tea of any variety. Have to research my local tree species, but kinda don't know how to go about it... But, let me share a suggestion with you: When presenting information in a 2 part comparison, like A is to B. It is a good idea to keep that relationship consistent throughout all of the comparisons, so A is to B, and A is to B, and A is to B. Rather than A is to B, B is to A, A is to B - which you did here in this vid. You went Black White, White Black, Black White. It is a minor point, but it helps with clarity. I hope you take this as it is intended, with friendship and love! Thanks for your vids!

Yes I can see where you are right. This video took place within walking distance from my home (I rode my bicycle) and there was some heavy equipment making all kinds of noise nearby. I was trying to cram as much video info in as short of a space of time as possible for me. It still took twice as long as it should have due to trying to record between the noisiest moments. I didn't even know if I was going to be able to use what I had recorded until i got back home and got it off the camcorder on to the computer to listen to it. Most people would think we live in a very rural setting and we in fact do. But we still have neighbors. I can not talk my wife into moving more remote.

New subscriber. Watched a few of your videos through suggested videos and I am hooked. I’ve had white pine tea, but not spruce...yet. Have you ever heated the tips with the water? White pine, it gives more of a roasted flavor and you still get the goodness from the pine since the boiling point of the oils is significantly higher than water.

Thanks for subbing and welcome to the channel and it gives a stronger flavor but I am concerned that more of the medicinal benefits are lost when doing that so usually keep the cooking to a minimum after the needles are placed in the hot water. Yes I have boiled the needles with the water.

Thanks Lonnie: I don't know the flavours of the spruce in Southern Ontario But I sure intend to find out. Brian 76

Great video Lonnie. Would you do a video sometime on water purification? I'm talking about out in the wilderness and not at home or at the cabin. Thanks!

That is a good idea for a future video and one that I will add to the to-do video list but no guarantee as to when I might get to it.
