I love spruce tip tea, and I also make healing cream with it.
I have a beautiful blue spruce in my backyard and the new buds are ready for picking. I made myself a blue spruce bud tea this afternoon, and I would say it has a nice soft citrus taste. Looking to freeze some for winter months.
We have a white spruce practically in our garden. I use that because it's convenient. It makes nice tea 😁
Lonnie, you are absolutely one of the coolest, salt of the earth kind of guys I've ever had the fortune of being able to learn from. You're aware of your environment, and you care about it. You also care about your fellow human being because you're willing to share your knowledge and teach. Thank you for all the things you share with us. Peace, and be well.

We call white spruce 'engelmann spruce' in British Columbia in case anyone from the area was wondering, still my favourite channel Lonnie and Connie!

Makes me want to move my family to the bush! That was super satisfying to watch.
Just picked some Norwegian Spruce here up in Scandinavia, it's in the kettle and the aroma is great! Can't wait to try it!

I have no idea about Fir trees because we do not have them in South Central Alaska. A search on the web will hopefully fill you in on that. Check out the link below for some info. Do a search for "White Fir". pfaf.org/user/plantsearch.aspx
Thanks for the info Lonnie. Here in Georgia, we only have the white spruce and not many of those. We do have white pine and it makes a good tea. Keep up the good work Sir!
Never tried this before. Out in the backyard picking spruce tips off of my black spruce tree. Love your videos! I am learning so much!
Lonnie, you make saturdays and Sundays really enjoyable. My wife and I are dying to go to Alaska and apply everything we learned with you along this last 2 months. Thank you
Great video , thank you. Enjoy the videos where you identify the various plants and trees.
Hey Lonnie! Love the smooth multiple camera views! That made it even more enjoyable to watch, and gave it a more professional look too! Keep up your great work
I could smell the tea through my device ☺ 👍👍👍
This is so wholesome. I immediately subscribed.
Another informative and enjoyable video. I really like pine needle tea but have not had spruce, I'll try it soon. Thanks Lonnie.
My favourite KZread channel by a mile. Thank you for all the lessons. You have helped me through what has been a difficult time in my life. I cant express my gratitude enough other than to say thank you very much. I really appreciate it.
I've watched four of your videos tonight and it is hitting on all cylinders. Been into the tree ID here lately and your tips on the spruce tree was awesome. We don't have alot of those here but still like the way you identified those trees.
I am drinking a spruce tea as I'm writing this, thanks to you. I really like watching you light up a fire and I find myself enjoying the process of watching it grow, as if it was me doing it. I dedicate this sip of delicious tea to you, Lonnie, and a little hello to your wife Connie. Thank you for sharing part of your time with us the way you do. Wish you best
Hello Lonnie, I am a Florida native and I am so glad you taught us how to make spruce tip tea. I will have to see what type of spruce will grow in Florida and plant some I would love to try the spruce tip tea.
I've probably passed thousands of spruce in my young life (Exploring the Black Hills regularly), never realizing that if I just took a few minutes to gather some tips that I would be rewarded with a refreshing cup of tea upon my return to camp. And I imagine on the trail the next day that a cool sip of spruce tea would perk me right up! I'll be implementing Operation Spruce Tips as my SOP when enjoying a day in the woods (Eastern Virginia) from now on, thank ya, Lonnie. - God Speed
I greatly wish for you to have the time to see this comment. I want to thank you for your video posts. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your teaching and mentoring, and frankly, you remind me tremendously of my deceased father. I miss him desperately and your videos remind me of how connected to our earth, we really are. Or of how connected we need to be. I am very aware of how ill equipped the next generation of humans, really are. I'm actively preparing for a hick-up in our flash of existence, and I hope to be my generations, Gen X, teacher. And mentor if I am fortunate enough to be valued as such. Thank you for helping remind me of how I am not so truly dependent on technology once I take myself away from it. Thank you for helping to keep alive the core values of humanity.

I do read *all* the comments on my videos and very much enjoy that connection with my viewers. It is both pleasing as well as humbling to hear that I bring back such fond memories for you. Thank you much for the kind words and good luck in your quest to be a teacher of wildwood wisdom to the next generation.
Lonnie is the man!
Thanks for the tip on spruce tea.
Thank you for the instructional. You have a really soothing voice. Really peaceful and instructive. :)
Lonnie, thanks for video... I always learn something from you...You are a great teacher.. Bill
Nice video Lonnie. Looks and smells good.
Thank you! Loved your video!
Thank you, that looks good. Gonna try it.
I have what appear to be white spruce in my yard and, after seeing another video about making tea from various evergreens (from The Outsider), I decided to give it a go with those today. I like it! I really like the flavor of it for some reason. It's cool that I have that little treasure right in my yard and plan to make regular use of it over the winter. I also have some white birch trees nearby, so I'm thinking of trying birch bark tea as well.
I just started watching your guys' videos and I love them! Keep it up!

Warning! If you live in central europe, do not confuse spruces with the highly toxic yew tree. Could otherwise be an quite unhealthy tea.

Excellent video Lonnie! Here on Long Island, NY I'm not sure if we have black spruce but now I know how to identify it. Great camp set up, really makes me want to move to Alaska.

Very interesting and thorough... Thanks!
I will have to try out some new tea... Thank you

Very interesting, thank you
Really enjoy your clear and concise video's Lonnie. Have read about the differences of spruce trees but not checked it out like you have here. Not sure we have black spruce on our place but believe there's some in the swamp behind us and will have a good look at those trees this weekend. Looking forward to a nice cup of spruce tip tea soon, thanks Lonnie and all the best to you and Connie!

Mmmm... so nice and relaxing to have that spruce tea! Thanks! White spruce gets its nicknames -- cat spruce and skunk spruce -- honestly. Now we can add 'wet dog spruce'. ; ) Last night I used my spruce tree balsamic vinegar to grill some fresh picked apricots and summer pears. Delicious! Every kind of spruce tastes a little different. I really like the Colorado Blue Spruce, but it's prickly! Nice job with the identification tips, too!

Yes I agree about Anchorage. Talkeetna is certainly a better location to experience "Alaska". I have at least one other viewer from the Talkeetna area. "Deepwood Handcraft" and "Deepwood Leather". If you appreciate quality handcrafted leather products, he is definitely talented in those skills. He lives near Talkeetna.
i wish i had a good amount of spruce in my area but natural tea is my favorite drink no matter what kind it is
Thank you Lonnie! I have yet to make a pine needle tea of any variety. Have to research my local tree species, but kinda don't know how to go about it... But, let me share a suggestion with you: When presenting information in a 2 part comparison, like A is to B. It is a good idea to keep that relationship consistent throughout all of the comparisons, so A is to B, and A is to B, and A is to B. Rather than A is to B, B is to A, A is to B - which you did here in this vid. You went Black White, White Black, Black White. It is a minor point, but it helps with clarity. I hope you take this as it is intended, with friendship and love! Thanks for your vids!

Yes I can see where you are right. This video took place within walking distance from my home (I rode my bicycle) and there was some heavy equipment making all kinds of noise nearby. I was trying to cram as much video info in as short of a space of time as possible for me. It still took twice as long as it should have due to trying to record between the noisiest moments. I didn't even know if I was going to be able to use what I had recorded until i got back home and got it off the camcorder on to the computer to listen to it. Most people would think we live in a very rural setting and we in fact do. But we still have neighbors. I can not talk my wife into moving more remote.

very nice video my friend atb John
Perfect in identifications and teaching method. Sign of a proper teacher. Still think you should carry some iron rings for your tripods rather than your strings and ropes and what have you. That sure looks tasty.
We don't have spruce in my area but we got pine. Never had spruce tea before, but I figure it's probably as good as pine needle tea.

All spruce are safe to use for tea. To get an approximate idea on what it would taste like, one can crush the needles and smell the resulting aroma.
Salut et un gros merci
Perfect advice never boil the neddle, just let them sit, I add chaga, and wild honey. The best healing tea on earth,

Thanks. Yeah go for it. You may be pleasantly surprised at the taste.
New subscriber. Watched a few of your videos through suggested videos and I am hooked. I’ve had white pine tea, but not spruce...yet. Have you ever heated the tips with the water? White pine, it gives more of a roasted flavor and you still get the goodness from the pine since the boiling point of the oils is significantly higher than water.
@Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival

Thanks for subbing and welcome to the channel and it gives a stronger flavor but I am concerned that more of the medicinal benefits are lost when doing that so usually keep the cooking to a minimum after the needles are placed in the hot water. Yes I have boiled the needles with the water.
Thanks Lonnie: I don't know the flavours of the spruce in Southern Ontario But I sure intend to find out. Brian 76
Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
