Lets Carve a Bear | Carve With Me

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I have been looking for a new hobby and have always LOVED watching people chainsaw carve at the yearly fairs, so I figured I would try it...so...lets carve a bear! I would love to do more content like this as I learn, so definitely let me know below in the comments if this is content you guys want to see! I can see some fun giveaways happening in the future!
This bear reminds me so much of a cute little gummy bear, he is far from perfect but I'm so happy with how he came out!
New Patreon available for anyone who wishes to support me a little extra :)

As always,
Thanks for watching!

It's Great to see your older carvings compared to your new ones. You have really progressed well in a year's time. I'm new to chainsaw carving, I've whittled hundreds of little projects and it was the natural progression I suppose. Keep going, you are doing great.

For your one year anniversary I’m rewatching this for I don’t know how many times now, but It never gets old to me Tay! The birth of a genius chainsaw carver in the works here. This won’t be the last time I replay this. Your roots as a carver began here with just the basics of carving tools. You’ve come a long way in just a year cutie! AMAZING!!! 💛

Thank you sooo much for posting this video. I am thinking about getting into this activity--I am 60 at end of teaching career and have experience with chainsaws but have that gnawing feeling of "what shoud I do with my life" thing. I am impressed that you make these cuts with a regular chainsaw bar. Seems like most of the artists use the dime or quarter tip carving bar in their videos. I'll stop rambling. I look forward to seeing more videos. Good luck and really nice work. Take care.

Very cute little bear. It would be nice to see it next to the front door when you come home. Because I have no such ability, I respect the ability to see something in the log that at first is not there. It was work but this person seems to be having fun too. That is what art is all about. I wonder if there could be two bears hugging inside some double trunk? Good job TayMarie.

Good job! New, as well. Starting my fourth bear today. Each gets better and easier. I've committed to carving ten, straight, in order to better learn my tool usage, track my progress, and see if I want to do this beyond a hobby. For my bottoms, i attach wood screws threw 6mm steel nuts for levelers, which also lift the bases off the ground about a quarter inch. Thx

@@TayMarie23 yes, a jamhorse is on my list. That, and a saw with a dime bar. Bought a stihl 180 c b e, two weeks ago. Love it! Never used a saw or carved anything before. At 63, I'm invested in this. Due to recent health issues I'm on SSI and hope to generate some extra income. Was laid up in bed pretty much for 16 months after high blood pressure caused me to have a brain bleed (minor type of stroke) and carving now has me up at six a.m., ready to start my day- dragging logs our of the woods, etc. Carving more than likely saved my life because it got me moving. I talked about chainsaw art for decades and now is my chance. Kids, grandkids and friends are so supportive, so i am luckier than most. Still, my learning takes great effort. I study hundreds of bear pics and videos. Just learning hair patterns alone is a great challenge. Woke the whole family up early this morning with my chainsaw. Oooops! Also learned- bears don't have whiskers! Good luck with your new venture. So encouraging to see others digging in and putting in the work. Unfortunately, there are no short cuts after learning the bear basics... Godspeed.

Greetings from England. Congratulations on your work, you've got talent! Here is a challenge for you. I want to see you carve the head of Beetlejuice from the Howard Stern show. Due to Beetlejuice's microcephaly it's not easy to get the proportions right. I'm a Stonemason and have done a few attempts in modelling clay before working on stone and it's tough. You're up to the challenge. Cheerio.

@@TayMarie23 You're right, people are hard, especially people with tiny heads! But imagine the scope of your work when you've mastered carving people. Just think of the demand and the price you could charge when you have that skill locked down. Keep the faith, work through the pain and focus on carving Beetlejuice. You'll find that if you can carve him you can carve any human. (Beetlejuice is more of a God than a human in my opinion).

Hii! Thank you for the kind words! I don’t use that clear coat anymore, but it was a transparent lightly tinted fence stain and weather-proofer! I recently switched over to all oil based products for my carvings, but I was using fence and deck stains prior to that! Honestly, they were working great and there is no specific reason I changed to oil other than just listening to some of the advice I have been given from other carvers :) I now use Australian timber oil and TWP 1500 for all of my carvings (in various colors) both of which I would recommend for ANY wood project, fence, or deck - they are both AMAZING!
