The new single feels like an homage to all the topics RAYE touched on in My 21st Century Blues; And perhaps eluding to this next chapter (next album) where she is full of light and optimism.
Genesis was produced by RAYE, Rodney Jerkins, Shankar "shanks." Ravindran & Tom Richards and was written by RAYE & Marvin "Tony" Hemmings.

So glad you like the song, it’s growing a lot on me!
“Need some light” in the first verse was actually about going to the light aka she is saying she should jump from the building in mv (there is a lyric questioning this in the first verse saying “I don’t think I need some light”. Then in the change up lyrics is “I don’t want to be alive but I don’t want to die” so she is saying the only thing stopping her is the fear of death, but she would not make the choice of existence.
