If you're a chili head who's been in this hobby for some years, this absolutely IS a big deal. To have the largest producer of spicy food blatantly lie to this level to increase sales is immoral, no matter how one looks at it. If an alcohol producer is known for producing the strongest liquor there is, and it comes out that their 75% ABV Rum is actually 40%, no one would ever defend that company. People just refuse to take Ed off the pedestal he has been on for so long.

Quite an accusation towards Ed... Let's just say, hypothetically, that you took some pods, doesn't matter the varietal, removed the stems, seeds, and membranes/placentas from the pods, then made a sauce out of what was left, which wound up constituting 91% of the sauce using still the pod, perhaps slightly over 91% once distillates and powders were added, would that not meet the letter of the labeling if that's what you put on there?

I can't agree more to this. I got the sauce in pretty shortly after it was available and thought mad dog 357 was wayyyy hotter. Turns out it wasn't just me, haha! I'm pretty disappointed with it because I feel like what I'm eating isn't pepper X and was hoping to at least be able to get a profile on the flavor, but now I'm not sure if I even ate true pepper X.

@@AB-88 You would need to ask Hot Ones/First We Feast. Ed is not selling this sauce (of any of the Hot Ones branded line) directly. This is a Heatonist/First We Feast sauce and none of us knows what they requested from Ed for that. What we do know is that despite him producing a lot of the other branded sauces of theirs, they went with someone else for the Buffalo, which means they're pretty clearly strongly influencing, if not outright dictating, the direction of their branded line...

Let's not forget that Hot Ones displays a 2,693,000 scoville rating beside the bottle of The Last Dab XPERIENCE on every episode. 🤔

This is a really good point. The show is THE major advertisement for the sauce. Mistakes can be made, but if Ed knew this sauce wasn't 2.6m scoville, then it was incumbent upon him to have Hot Ones correct their reporting of the SHU. Otherwise, he's knowingly misrepresenting the sauce for the sake of selling bottles.

Watching the show, it’s always been clear that the last dab wasn’t the hottest sauce. For YEARS it’s been obvious that the two sauces before it destroy the guests and the last dab always just got a “that tastes better than the last one” reaction. Don’t get me wrong, Ed is a weird guy, but a lot of this is on first we feast.

This is why i love johnny! You can trust what he tells you. Today he called a spade a spade. Much respect to johnny and his brother.

And another chapter on this journey, old friend I respect you for your honesty....never bend....never change.

I wonder if Ed will find himself on the wrong end of a lawsuit in regards to that sauce. How can you claim it's over 91% pepper X and then backtrack and say that people don't actually want really spicy sauce? He lost a lot of credibility with that one.

There is no way this is by accident. Truth is Truth. And Ed’s brand is going to take a hit. And it’s deserved.

Truth is the truth and I appreciate you for your truthful opinions on hot 🔥 things. You promote what you find good in life and give honest opinions from your experiences. Raising questions and searching for the truth is a good thing; sad to say there are more sheople than people in this world. Keep doing you.

Ed’s reasoning is pretty silly. I don’t doubt that the vast majority of people don’t want their faces melted by their food. The people who go out of their way to buy a sauce that is advertised as being 91% made of the hottest pepper on the planet absolutely DO want their faces melted off. There’s a massive difference in expectation between a sauce that just has Pepper X in it and a sauce that just IS Pepper X and it’s disingenuous of Ed to pretend that he doesn’t understand that.

Scovilation without representation! If the 91% doesn't fit in the bottle, YOU MUST ACQUIT!

Scoville ratings are based on the *dry* weight of the pepper. Peppers are 85-90% water. If you make a sauce from fresh peppers, it's never going to be more than 15% as hot as the Scoville rating of the pepper. But a sauce made with fresh Pepper X should be at least ~300,000 SCU, so they're still off by a factor of 5X. Unless they have cooked the peppers to reduce the heat, I guess.

Ed said in video it was rated at 2.4 million. The jam they’re in was brought on themselves. With the roll out of the pepper and this sauce it’s almost though they did every thing possible to make it look as sketchy as possible. They should take some money they’re making and hire a PR firm. They’re hemorrhaging respect faster than they’re making money. My opinion

I havent had the sauce and likey never will. Im very curious to see the second labs test results though. The sauce lit up Roger from The Hot Dang show a decent amount and most that have had it say its pretty hot but not stupid hot. That makes me wonder if the labs results are correct. 60,000 just seems a little low based on the reactions I have seen.

I would be curious to know the SHU of the Gator sauce. I had some sent to me by mistake and it didn't seem much if any hotter than the Reaper Squeezins sauce and apparently it's just Pepper X mash and Reaper powder.

After listening to what Ed said, that was straight dishonesty. 99 whatever percent of people who like spicy food don't like it brutal. That's the whole point of the Last Dab. Brutality and reactions. To top that off it's over $30 a bottle. Marketing gimmick. They advertised it like you were consuming liquid pepper x. 91% of 2.67 million is 2.43 million. Most people couldn't tell a difference.

From all the pepper mesh that's inside, 91% is pepper x, the other is some red pepper. They don't say how much mesh is inside. Is it possible to figure it out with the help of the content list? Can this be some tricky-legal lying with wording?

I was terribly disappointed in the heat level of pepper x after ordering the hot ones kit just for that sauce since it was exclusive there.

I've always wanted to get a last dab sauce and I finally did. Plain and simple, this is a moderately hot sauce. Nothing eye opening. And my tolerance is down right now. I just had the chance to try it, and thought this video was the best place to post. The reaper or scorpion salsa from pepper Joe's is just as hot. I've had a dozen sauces hotter. Just my opinion.

61,000 SHU seems like fraud. If you sell something as being 91% of a particular item that is supposedly rated to 2.6m SHU... and it is less than 3% of that heat level... this screams 'bait and switch.'

Classic marketing ploy. 91% of the PEPPER in that bottle is Pepper X. The rest is additives. Water doesn't have to be the 1st ingredient in the list and I note that there are NO PERCENTAGES given on the list of ingredients. That should be a red flag.

Percentages are never listed and the only time additives can be excluded is if they are deemed "insignificant" in quantity and have no technical or functional effect to the product. It is not legal to have 97% (the difference between the scoville rating of the pepper vs the sauce) additives and not list them. @@discordia013

This explains why my reaper sauces are way hotter then the bottle of pepper X I bought... And clearly overpaid, I paid 40 euro which is a rough 50 dollars to get a bottle of it here in Europe.....

I keep hotter stuff straight for dipping chicken nuggets. I think that may be the least spicy of them. It’s unfortunate but hey it is what it is.

I was very upset by this sauce also. Recorded it for the Xmas livestream for ChilliChump if u needed an extra reaction to go by. I originally think I said it was about a 4 but when comparing against some of my other favorites like the Naga Monster by ChilliChump or Troy Primos sauces were hotter by far I’d guess this was about a 1.5 on my level.

Thank you Johnny for being honest even if it meant you would get bashed by those with financial interest in this sauce. I call it having the courage of your conviction but I’m sure you knew the truth could hurt you. Keep being an inspiration and take care of yourself.

100%spot on. I would have though 150K at a peak but was expected 300-600k....

Gotta take into consideration the result was in wet (sauce) form while almost all hot sauces with ratings on the bottles are in dry form, including hellfire doomed 2.8 million. A 2 million or even 1 to be generous sauce will never test as low as 61k wet, so there's that.

There is no way to deconstruct this sauce and NOT arrive at the same conclusion. It is a sham and nowhere nearly as hot as it should based on the numbers THEY put on THEIR OWN BOTTLE.

Just trying to figure out a way the 91% could be true and it still be 61k SHU... is it possible they use immature pods that they know won't have gotten to peak heat yet? Or... I dunno. I'm not saying they aren't outright lying, they may be, I dunno how this stuff works. But I'm just trying to figure out a scenario in my head where they technically are using 91% of the pepper, but are somehow reducing the heat.

same concept as redbull, it don't give you wings, but hot ones is trying to sell to the general public,, so to the public, it may very well be the hottest sauce in their world... you are just on a high level of extreme tolerance, Johnny... it's a tough call but i'm with you. they should label it better to let people know who should worry about heat, and who (you super Chili heads) should not worry so much. the hot stuff you guys eat is simply too dangerous for the non Chili heads... though it makes more sense now that people on Hot Ones can eat that last dab easier than Da'Bomb, because Da'Bomb is 135,000 shu's while that last dab is only a bit over 61,000... plus da'bomb has extract,,, sooo,,, anyway, thanks for all you share !!!!
