Let's talk Light Rail Revival! Sydney Light Rail review (Alstom Citadis 305)

NOTE: This review was filmed in April 2021. For those of you currently in Sydney/Central Coast/Blue Mountains and Wollongong, stay safe and look after yourselves! Don't forget to pop on a mask, wash your hands and keep your distance...and wait until lockdown ends before popping onboard to try a Tram for yourself (unless it's an essential journey).
For today's transport review, it's time to talk trams again! This review is dual-purpose, as not only am I taking a ride onboard Sydney's latest trams, I am also talking a little bit about 'light rail revial', as trams have been making a comeback in Australia since the mid 1990's.
So come and join me for a look at the new network and a little bit of commentary on why the light rail comeback is a good thing!

Come on over to Sydney Australia on how to dock double decker two storey onto second/two storey buildings from street level shopping malls balconies & steel awnings to help the city & suburbs taking up the job opportunities & money while cutting costs on platforms or stations

Nice video. It's interesting how Citadis models differ in how they sound. The Citadis Spirit we have in Ottawa has a more "staggered" sound as it accelerates. We're only just getting started with our system, converting our previous dedicated bus transitway to rail bit by bit.

Cheers! I went to Tokyo in 2019 and I got to see some of the Australian buses that just been delivered there. Here's hoping things improve so I can get back to Japan!

I had all intentions of it on my last trip to Sydney, but i just ran out of time. With what's going on at the moment, I have no clue when I'll be there next!

Nowhere near as big as it was before World War 2. Now there's three lines, L2/L3 use the same Rollingstock and L1 uses something different again. Here's hoping things improve again in Sydney!

Wait no almost, L1 is Central to Dulwich Hill. Although that said (if the networks were properly interoperable) they could run from Circular Quay to Dulwich Hill. With the interoperability, since the L1 line was built on old train tracks it uses "railway style" wheels which differ slightly from traditional tram wheels (and don't work as well in the road (I think the gaps besides the rails might have to be wider and corners gentler)) it means that the L2/3 trams can operate on the L1 line (but I also think they are slightly narrower or slightly different platform height or something) meaning they can't run in service, but the L1 line trams can't run on the L2/3 line.

@@pwhnckexstflajizdryvombqug9042 The L1 trams do actually operate on road tracks when approaching Central, and I have also noticed that where the L1 and L2/3 line cross near Central, there is an interchange of the tracks that allows a switch between the two lines.
