Let's Talk About Super7 Godzilla Figures

Ойын-сауық

Two points I believe I forgot to mention in the video;
1. The idea of promoting figures on renders might not be the best for the community right now. Understandable that they cannot make physical prototypes due to cost and their business model, but the renders set up expectations that might not be feasible. Physical protos which are reasonably close to the final product help a ton.
2. I will be getting SpaceGodzilla, if it is made, though mostly for the crystal accessories. Those look amazing!

    Super7 should do a Zilla jr and cyber Zilla based on the Godzilla the series cancelled figures from Trendmasters with modern articulation that would be awesome for them to do toys on a property that ultimately has none. Plus the cartoon is well received despite the 98 Zilla hate

    Super7 has strong potential with Godzilla as long as they do the concept and obscure characters. I really want to see them succeed with Godzilla and explore new areas we haven't seen much love to

    Super7 has so much potential. I really think they should embrace the 90's Trendmasters vibe with their Godzilla stuff and I'd gladly eat it up. I love shit like that. And that's why I love the DarkHorse comics Godzilla it has that vibe for me :D

    I appreciate this video and your critiques! I’ve got a few of their smaller throwback and ReAction Godzilla figures, but no ultimates yet. I’ve been hesitant to pick the ultimates up too because of a lot of the critiques you share here. I want them to succeed as well!

    For me, it’s literally just the price, i think they’re fine figures, but for almost $100 bucks? It just isn’t worth the money, but Spacegodzilla looks good, and i dont have one, or the funds to grab a SHMA, so i might grab it.

    Very thoughtful video - the only point I'm a bit lukewarm on is that Super7 is starting the line with 3 when Wave 1 has been available to order for well over a year, but I understand that most folks would prefer to pay when they land and/or when in-hand photos start coming out. The articulation criticisms are totally valid. I don't understand the choice of torso swivel (why does Biollante get a balljoint torso but Godzilla doesn't???) and how they handled the tail segments, but I'm totally happy with everything else. One of the bigger hurdles I think they will face is that I think you need to get them in-hand to see the value (albeit that value might not be $85). I don't think they photograph particularly well, and the early in-hand photos were so bad that they almost look deliberately awful. I would love to see more out-of-the-box releases. I want a Mechatitanosaurus SO BAD. But I'm also down for toyetic versions of on-screen characters. I really hope that they take the feedback to heart, and I hope that the customers support the line as it grows into something they find value in.

    Speaking of Super7 doing wacky and obscure Godzilla stuff, and I've asked them for this before, I think Super7 really should look into doing SuperGodzilla and Bagan. Both are kaiju we've never gotten before in figure form (Bagan has gotten a vinyl but its not SuperGodzilla Bagan) and people would be all over it. They'd be new, interesting looking pieces and I think they'd be right up Super7's alley. Another thing that could be really cool for Super7 to do is concept art designs for kaiju.

  • @dantetortorello940

    @dantetortorello940

    If they were to do concept designs, they totally do kaiju that were planned but never made it happen into the series like you mentioned Bagan. Wolfman would be awesome but something else that’d be awesome is making the design for the concept version of 2004 Godzilla in figure form, that’d be a great addition to the Super7 line.

    You make a lot of good points. I saw your poll in one of the FB posts and I saw Super7 getting torn apart in the comments, and I’ve gotta admit that I don’t understand why. I know kaiju fans are very particular, probably more so than many of the other lines I collect. My guess is that this may have been many collectors’ first experience with Super7, not realizing that they typically have an element of stylization to their figures. I saw a lot of people initially complaining about them before I got mine in, to the point where it made me afraid I wasn’t going to like the figures. Then, I got them. Opened them. Had fun doing a stop motion with them. Many of the complaints I saw were user error, as you mentioned, while others I saw were blown out of proportion (the amount of “gloss” comments I saw made me think someone spilled lacquer all over these figures, only to find out it was much more scaled back than I initially thought). Then the other complaints were the “for the price we should be getting XYZ” - incidentally, the exact complaint I see directed at SHMA with things like precise paint apps and loose/disconnected joints. That unfortunately gave me a “these guys are never gonna be satisfied by anything” feeling overall. Obviously, critique is fine, but like you said - these people just rip things apart and offer nothing good to balance it. As for QC, mine have been great. Like I said, I animated mine, meaning I probably moved my figures more than most people who own these and aside from one Biollante tendril, they held up just fine. You mentioned cost with Iris coming out at 300 and Super7 having three figures totaling around 260ish seems counterproductive to their “low cost” entry. While that’s true, I don’t know if an SDCC exclusive could be counted, especially since most people who bought wave one paid for them almost a year ago. But still, they’re on wave four so they’ve been collecting money for a while now. Overall? I like them. They aren’t perfect, but as you mentioned - this is wave one. They’ve got room to grow and expand, and I hope they do. I’m happy with these just like I’m happy with my recent SHMA figures. These companies are offering different products and I think some fans just aren’t okay with it. Again - my opinion, I’m no expert. I’m just a collector who’s been around forever. But I’m with you - more of the unique, one-off stuff would be amazing to see. Great video!

    I supposed to the point you made here I can respond to regarding price, with the SDCC exclusive, my only counterpoint is that Super7 is very good at making sure customers have access to their exclusives - whether it be their alleged store exclusives **END UP AT MACY'S IN THEIR TOYS R US SECTION** - or SDCC releases end up at Best Buy 6-8 months later. So while I do get the idea it is unique and a special release, there's no doubt any US resident, at least, not only has a chance to get it, but Super7 is also carrying them to events they are attending after the fact.

    @@StevensToyReviews that frightens me because that means I have a chance to walk through Macy’s and spend 200+ on glowing TMNT Ultimates. I really wish that wasn’t even an option for me because I might lose self-control haha. But yes - valid points across the board. I hope the line improves and reaches a point where the growing pains are in the past.

    Got the Super7 mystery figures on clearance for $7 and they do look good....but the hell is 1957 Godzilla? It looks like a hybrid between 1954 and Heisei. On the box for some reason they photo shopped 1962 head on the figure.

    I really enjoy much of what Super 7 does, probably because goofy '90s toys appeal to me. But there's no denying their form over substance approach. It's a reflection of our society - Super 7 knows exactly what they're doing.

    I bought a few Reaction figures along the way. Their stuff is ridiculously overpriced. $20 per figure is $8-10 more than it should be. They're pumping out way too much product also. First it's the plain figure, then a month later it's a glow version, then a slightly different color, maybe some new packaging. Funko did this with their Pops. Every month a new color or special edition of a previous release. Over $30mil in Pops went in a landfill from the glut of product. I got hooked on the Shogun Godzilla. First the ComiCon boxed one, then the carded, then the Aurora glow version. Then I got the first Mechazilla, and felt burned a month later when the better glow version came out. They even pumped out a Target exclusive "Movie Version". The same '54 version, but brown dorsal fin instead of silver. NOW, I see they just came out with yet another Shogun Godzilla variant. The "BoxLunch Edition" $27!!!

    An honest review from a Godzilla fan. Steven, it is so much blah blah blah. I preordered the Mecha Godzilla and the Burning Godzilla, and after some of the other Super 7 reviews, I just may have to cancel them. This Thirsty for Blood Godzilla is the only one I ordered as soon as I saw it, treating it as a "one off" because it just strikes a balance of appearance and quality, but I don't think I will order another one of them, unless I get a great deal on it. $300 on any Super 7 item just leaves me cold. SH Monsterart after reviews , and some Neca offerings has filled my needs for various reasons, and this one TFB Godzilla Super 7, but otherwise I do think I am done.

    I believe in Super7 because their figures have a lot of potential. They need to add more accesories like Space Godzilla with crystals or mechagodzilla with his Garuda and arm hooks. Now that's worth 85 bucks. Destroyah is more likely gonna be a big toy so I can excuse the 100 bucks for it. Moguera and biollante are Meh. They could have added some missiles or smoke effects for Moguera or extra tentacles for biollante.

    I'm very unhappy with Wave 1. I haven't picked up the Dark Horse Varient, and I may never because of how disappointing that first wave was. You say the sculpt is nice, but I have both the standard SHMA and Triple K BioGoji and the sculpt doesn't hold a candle to either of them. You say the articulation is good, but again the articulation is significantly worse and that's compared to the standard SHMA BioGoji which has some of the most limited articulation of any SHMA Godzilla in years. The paint apps in the eyes are nice, and unlike half my SHMA Godzillas they don't look in different directions, but my SHMA BioGoji never had that problem and he doesn't have teeth that look like undercooked scrambled eggs either. In the end the only two selling poinst I see for this line are that they want to do more obscure kaiju that Bandai has refused to give us and that they are large... and while I look forward to more obscure kaiju the largeness is not a worthwhile selling point for me if every other aspect of the figure is going to be subpar, especially when they are only five to ten dollars cheaper than a standard SHMA release as was the case with the BioGoji. The largness is also an issue because the kaiju (at least the 2 out right now) are not in scale with each other as the Godzilla is too large.

    Super 7's figures look great, but they need to work on their Quality control in terms of articulation, as for eating companies alive, Well we got to eat you know. :P No, seriously, We can be brutal, I'll agree, but at the same time, hopefully it also means they'll take those critiques and use them to improve their figures. Super7 has the look down, defiantly, I won't say these are garbage, Theres room for improvement, Replace those swivels with ball peg joints, I aprove of the swappable heads, I do, I hated how NECA butchered poor godzilla's headsculpt whenever you opened his mouth (89 NECA Goji, I'm looking at you!) he has a horrible case of slackjaw/underbite, So they can keep the swappable head system, I prefer it, maybe more options, (Imagen Godzilla vs Hedora figure with two open and closed mouths and a third with the eye burnt out!) I want super7 to continue, their minis are fantastic for their size, and I like to see more big figures. I'd LOVE to see an 18" Scale godzilla figure as well.

    I have no love for super7 because there is no reason for these reaction figures to be 20 dollars. Even the Ultimates line has terrible paint application especially when it comes to human faces, and joints, proportions and plastic quality are all bottom level quality yet they want $50+ for each figure? Honestly super7 sucks but I hope they turn it around
