they could've at least told the queens that they were gonna be lip-syncing the first week so that they could be more prepared and brought appropriate outfits, to avoid Denali lipsyncing in skates and Kahmora in a Bob Mackie gown

I’m assuming (in a similar fashion to how in past seasons the queens were told to wear something that can get destroyed) that the queens were told “wear something you normally perform in” which could explain both of Denali’s and Kahmora’s outfit choices.

Almost every season they had a lipsync for their life in episode 1 so I assume they just told each of them the song they were gonna do and they learned it thinking it would be for the normal lipsync... I mean it's pretty difficult to believe that they didn't know they were gonna lipsync at any time seeing that literally all of them knew the words to their song (yeah, they were soooooo famous songs but come on, they all seemed heavily prepared, it just happened way before than expected)

Denali was so screwed. she legit came in with this beautiful skater outfit and had to lipsync in that. I hope she makes it far. Also I just feel terrible for a queen not even being able to show anything before they’re thrown out of the show. It just seems kind of shitty but I guess they’re getting paid so idk

Honestly, I think this whole twist will be just to create drama between the queens, something like last season's "who is your strongest and weakest competition" thing. And in the end no one is going home until the third episode or something.

I'm so annoyed about the treatment of Denali. Her entrance look perfectly encapsulated who she is, which is what you're supposed to do, and the producers not only put her in danger but they gave her such a staggering disadvantage as well. I really hope she goes far, I absolutely love her, she's so talented. Lala Ri did kill that lipsync, though.

I agree, I’m also very annoyed by the edit Rosé got as well. I think it’s so wrong that she came off as rude or a sore loser, bc at the end of the day she didn’t know this twist was coming, and the fact that she’s one of New York’s most seasoned queens and also the drag sister of a fan favourite (Jan) going up against another New York queen who’s been doing drag for only a year and then losing, I think she has every right to be a little bit annoyed/sad. Honestly, I disagree with nearly all the lip sync outcomes (the only winners I agree with are Kandy and Tina, maybe Gottmik) and if Rosé, Denali, Utica or Tamisha go home first I’ll be so pissed bc they didn’t deserve to be there

At least with Mik despite them deffo pushing her, I think she's at least the only one that has the talent to (at least slightly) back up her favour. That being said, Denali was ROBBED, Tamisha I wish she had been given a better edit/arc and Utica I love way too much to see her fail.

I feel Rose. She was shunned and actually looked nervous before her lipsync because she might have expected having to jump off a high plataforma or even have gigantic fan on her face. And then after loosing she was just stunned. She was not rude in my opinion a lot of us would react the same way.

my perfect concept for this would be: -the queens all come in like normal -the first challenge is creating a lip sync outfit from scratch WHILE knowing they will do the lip syncs. -the ending stays the same

The producers are gonna know they fucked up having 16+ lipsync songs in a season when the queens in Season 15 have to lipsync to Musetta's Waltz.

Hot take: The twist might lead to one of the most interesting seasons of drag race, by having some girls win and the others lose it’s feeding some of their egos while leaving the other girls hungry to prove themselves. It might lead to another “Heathers” and “Boogers” dynamic, which will be interesting to see. Despite all that I still think the twist was unnecessary as they weren’t actually eliminating anyone. Also I think Ru might push Mikk to at least top 6 to use her as a scapegoat that second anyone brings up the shows past transphobia.

@@psnahdha8657 Same, Tina seems to me like Nina a Sherry have a similar drag style, usually get very far but not winning. To me the favoritism would be gottmik, still like her, but we can’t deny that Ru would use her story to make himself and the show look better.

I felt this episode dragged on and nothing really interesting

Drag race is the only show where you can talk about having cancer and get eliminated in the same episode

lmao when we were watching, my straight friends said "kandy won her lip sync?" and i immediately replied "kandy already made it into the top 5 this season, get used to her". i did get really exhausted of some of them thinking all seven were being eliminated episode one. girl... but are they really gonna just start the next episode with a vote for elimination, kick someone off, then have a normal episode that ends with kicking someone off? i think ru's telling them they're voting for the chop, but she makes that person team captain or something like that, and it turns out no one gets eliminated because of this dumb twist episode.

lol if you know that kandy makes it to top 5 then shouldn't you also have an idea of whats happening with the two groups anyways.

I’m certain on the recap of season 5 in race chaser that coco revealed that she was asked to audition for the season and that Alyssa had been pushed back to season 5 from 4 to allow for the conflict. Anyways I would love drag race if they just naturally allowed stories to happen, we don’t want forced drama anymore!

completely agree, I think in 2002 it was amusing to have this kind of drama but I think most people care for more mature story arcs of LGBTQ+ people who work together in a competitive environment as opposed to forced drama. That makes for good TV and is one reason why season 12 was better than most of the last seasons - it was still too forced but at least you felt queens respected each other and tried to be kind.

The coco v alyssa conflict was definitely set up but it made the season the best. They weren’t forced in a group until episode 6 and that didn’t even create a fight between them. I think its more VH1 who controls these things

Yea it seems pretty obvious by each of their trailers who might be going home first, I won’t say the two queens but it looks quite obvious who might be knocked out earlier.

This episode was so slow. If they wanted to do this for a premiere they should have premiered the second episode too!

And I completely agree about Denali, super unfair they made her dance in ice skates and I hope those blades fucked up Ru's catwalk. Also, was kinda sad playing Tanisha Iman like they did, "oh hey, you were supposed to be here last year, oh you're recovering from colon cancer? I think that song specifically was used as it fit the theme (for lack of a better word) suited the episode as it talked about wanting to be famous and that’s what the queens want to be: to be famous. But that’s just my opinion on why they used the song.

Just me that thinks Kandy muse might get the silky ganache edit? I really hope not

I can TELL that the queens that got the “porkchop” are gonna be put down this season and I HATE that! Plus I feel that certain queens should’ve won the lip syncs instead of others, so.. yeah This twist was unnecessary and I feel That a design challenge would’ve been better to see ngl

Same. I abandoned the show after season 9. I was only watching the lip syncs, but season 12 brought me back. But I got extremely boring with this episode.

I’m concerned that they basically just announced who will be favoured this season. Not that the winning girls aren’t talented, they are, I love gottmik, Symone, and Lala, but I can just feel the favouritism some of the winning queens will get already.

Also I really hope there are more twists to come, the first eliminated queen being picked by other queens that didn’t see anything seems very unfair

before the episode i was a huge Kandy, Utica and Gottmik stan. after the episode, im now a HUGE Symone, Tamisha, and Utica stan!!!

It’s very clever of the production team - everyone’s talking about the twist. Loads of eyes will be on it to see if there’s rivalry between queens / between pork chopped and safe etc..

I feel like the execution could've been alot better. It should've been something in all stars 4. Have all the queens enter, and then make them come to the stage. After that they should've then started to have partners and one by one lipsync.

in conclusion this twist was completely unnecessary and will lead to petty unneeded drama

I feel that it’s gotten repetitive and we’ve recognised their tactics. So there’s no shock anymore. We’re numb. Also the new fandom have ruined it...with their “opinions”.

I've been saying it ever since the promo came out but I feel more excited for UK Season 2 then Season 13 of regular Drag Race. And I will always say that Dragula is more entertaining than Drag Race

@@martin3980 I didn’t say I don’t care about it at all I just said less and I used to be a die hard fan but now I’m just a casual so I still enjoy it but not nearly as much.

I liked it just because it allowed some queens to show case some more looks and give them a little more air time

As an episode this one was definitely pretty repetitive, but it definitely had one of the better twists drag race has come up with in the last few years (we knew ru wouldn't just eliminate half the cast in the first ep and that they wouldn't just let a contestant leave without showing anything first, but having the losing queens vote someone out of their group? that was interesting) that being said i was kinnnnnda uncomfortable with how much ru rubbed in the fact that the other group lost their lipsyncs in their faces. you could clearly see how defeated the losing queens were just by the looks on their faces, and ru playing THAT song off all things over the PA really was a bit much. the bit you shared about denali really made me feel for her though. not letting her put on guards for her skates sounds like such a health and safety hazard.

The twist was great actually 👌

The main reason I still watch Drag Race is so I can then watch U.'s Movie Bitches' and Nina Bo'Nina's reviews and commentaries.

Janet song must have Janet moves ghorl in her era most people do Janet moves and that's an advantage I think they but tamisha on the pork chop because lalari was her drag queen and won maybe drama because of them nevertheless, rooting for Olivia lux 6 months in drag but feels like a year of drag

I really like the losers of the lipsync more than the winners

Some tea... on race chaser podcast, coco I believe said that she was greenlit for season four, but then the producers changed their mind because Alyssa declined. And when Alyssa agreed to do season five, they brought coco in for that as well because... well, story.

i do agree with EVERYTHING said, these were the same things i rember thinking after the episode aired also i'd say that half of the losing bunch should have been in the winners lounge so bad that Joey, Denali and Utica aren't going much further in the competition, also I'm sad that Rosè's gonna be on the season just for the dram with Tina, I just smell shady edit for her while i do love her so muh

ru's behaviour was distugsting saying they are going. saying they are staying. and then making them vote one of them out. while listening to your a winner Whilst crushing their dreams for the second time

I love the queens getting a freebie episode, especially with a Lip Sync for the Win. It gives the queens who go home first a little more air time, and more challenges. Like Khamora said, some queens spend their life savings on drag race. 1 or 2 non-elimination episodes are fine. Not sure about 3 in a row, but at least Khamora got lots of air time, probably more so than any previous first out.

I totally agree with you about the lip syncs it's very much a storyline set up from all aspects- I also personally don't think anyone is going home next episode, it's gonna be some type of gag and they know the fans would come for them

I think whoever gets voted out might get a redemption island kind of thing, maybe her and 2 others with lipsync to get back in the competition, or like redemption island on survivor, every week 3 will lipsync, 2 will survive and stay on "redemption island", one goes home, and then when there are like 6 queens left, the "redemption trio" will fight for 1 to stay in the competition.

The main reason I liked this was the fact we got to see how everybody gets down in a lip sync off the bat..instead of waiting for it in the finale

That's actually incorrect. Oxymoron is when two opposite terms are put together (a "wet fire"). "Visual video" is a pleonasm Sorry I just had to say it :')

Love him, but i was _just_ thinking as I heard that line how he actually d i d n ‘ t properly use oxymoron, lol! ‘Visual video’ is just a redundant/double-descriptor that kinda mean the same thing; oxymoron would be if the two words contradicted each other (like ‘little giant’ or ‘picture-less video’ since in order to be a vid it has to have images) Sorry I hate to be that bitch & I swear I never am, I’m just high rn so particularly chatty/felt like venting lmao

All queens this season are very interesting and enjoyably Apparently

I think this episode also gives them an insight as to how the queens might do in an actual LSFYL. It will give them the chance to save people they like but they know won't survive a lipsynch Ala Kim Chi and Fame

Fun fact: Alyssa was asked when she was being interviewed on S4 about if she knew a “coco Montrese” and she responded with “I don’t know her”. So that further backs up that producers try and create pre planned storylines

I don't know if this will matter but Symone's birthday is the same day as the 3rd episode's release date so I feel like good things could happen to her then also a black queen has won the 2nd main challenge for a long time now so maybe they'll keep that up too.

Symone will not appear in episode 3 as she is in the winners group. She will be in episode 2 and then jump to 4

Can we praise the fact that Denali put up a better fight in her lip sync WHILE WEARING ICE SKATES than most queens do on the show ever?

Oh my god I spent so long trying to find your channel again! How could you change your username without telling me... Or maybe I should have subscribed in 2019

As much as it probably was a setup, can we also remind each other that telling a story with a lip sync/showing emotion will almost always beat a lip sync full of kicks and splits. Kandy told a story, Olivia told a story, symone told a story. We’ve seen it with jan vs widow too. The only other ways to win a lip sync is to have a storyline or to go up against someone who completely fucks up the lip sync. So besides the producer involvement, I think some of the winners were correct.

I really like kandy, I hope the producers won't be letting her go further with favouritism 'cause that would ruin her run
