Let's Talk About Money as a BCBA

Ойын-сауық

I did an interview with the Money Guy, also known as the ‪@Funancialism‬ and we talked about all of the money you can make in this field. Not only did we break down my 6 streams of income, but we dove into the why and how to get started. Such as job flexibility, job security, teaching at a university, & stating your own ABA business. There is so much money left on the table, so it's time to get knowledgeable on all the money to be made as a BCBA.

I am currently a RBT of 5 years and I am contemplating getting my masters and becoming a BCBA. I love that you are a woman of color in this field. I live in Indianapolis and you don’t see a lot of black and brown BCBAs. This just motivated me to go for it.

Pleeeease why do you let color should define anything you want to do in life? Stop that mindset and will accomplish so much more! How can you change people's behavior if you can't even change yours???🤔🤔🤔

Kindness is our superpower in this field. We must model the behavior we want to see from others ( in other words “ treat people the way you want to be treated”) that’s why I try it lead with kindness with my clients, my supervisees, my students, and my colleagues. I appreciate you for pointing that out. It’s not always easy when so many others are harsh and aggressive. However I believe there is a shift happening in our field where we can lead with kindness and understanding. Thanks for watching. I truly appreciate the love 🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾 Trap

I’m currently working on my masters in research and diagnostic psychology (I have my bachelors in clinical psychology) and want to do diagnostic and research in autism an autism spectrum disorders primarily. But I am currently working and certified as a RBT and love the company I work for but it’s inspired me to do my own one day when I finish my school. I have two questions one would I have to be a BCBA to start and own my own company (especially if I have hired BCBA’s and will provide diagnostic and general counseling as well as ABA). And two if I do have to be one or decide to could you make video that describes in better detail then the website the different ways you can go about becoming a bcba. I primarily interested in pathway 3 “faculty teaching and research.”

Hi southern Belle! Thank you for commenting. The answer to your first questions is no. You don’t have to be a BCBA to open your own practice IF you hire a BCBA who is credentialed with insurance. The first step is acceptance. That’s what I had to learn. Just because his characteristics of autism are mild, it doesn’t mean it’s easy for him to be in a world that is not accept of people who are different. You have to ask yourself “can he still be happy in his awkwardness? Can we be successful”? If so, you may have to let him Be who he is unless it is socially significant. I had to learn that one myself
