In NJ, they tried that a couple of times. In response, a whole bunch of us have started pushing the idea of RE-registering to vote for every single election, even if you're already registered. It's extra paperwork, but if you put it through as reregistering for party-designation, they are forced to mark your registration as current, which prevents it from being purged. In different states, YMMV, but it's worth a shot.

Gerrymandering has only been on tool in the GA Republican playbook for a long time. I'm glad to see it end, if they don't try to slide some changes in or muck with it another way. But still have to deal with them reducing polling stations in blue areas, requiring voter ID while making it harder to get IDs, the heavily red-leaning rural areas or just plain Democrats not running opposing candidates meaning a lot of Republicans can go uncontested for years and years, no matter how bad a job they are doing.

The southern states have been pulling 'shenanigans' for decades, they disenfranchised 10's of thousands of black voters in the last governor election by moving black voters into different districts and reducing the number of voting locations such that people had to stand in line for hours to vote. Also many were unable to vote because they had moved the borders of several districts without notifying the people that they had to re-register in the new district weeks before the election. When they showed up at their regular voting location they were unable to vote because they had not re-registered in their new district. GOP sucks, they are liars and cheats, I will never vote for them again.
The southern GOP states expected SCOTUS to destroy section 2 of the Voting Rights act. Then SCOTUS upheld it. So they're doing the "George Wallace Standing in front of the school"--putting up a show resisting. It's also important to note that given how small the House margin is, this redistricting in Alabama/Georgia/Texas/NYC/etc resulted in the House going to Republicans. This stuff resulted in everyone being hurt.
Counting on a lack of shenanigans by the GOP might be a little too enthusiastic 😂

Well... technically, they SAID they would comply. Let's see what they _actually_ do, if anything.
In their defense, if Georgia's governor hadn't been on board with actual democracy, we'd be sitting in a very different country by now.
Even if these GOP legislators are not successful in diluting the votes, they can cause enough confusion on the ground. If the map is changing all the time, people won't know where to vote.
