He's right, though. FFXIV is a pretty easy game. Raids are nothing like a Mythic WoW raid of 40 players that go fast, fast, fast, and I don't even like WoW or its community. I think what makes ffxiv confusing is a ubiquitous and naive complexity of the language like, going to the market board and having to search for, "Atrociraptor Leather," or, "Phrygian Gold Ingot." Like what even is that? I just want to make a shirt, you know? The item placement for upgrading your gear with coins using NPCs in major cities takes getting used to, also. It's scattered.

If you want to practice openers, you can also just visit your targetted expansion's Stone, Sky, Sea and you can just keep trying your opener again and again without having to load into an instance. What kind of sucks is that most first and second savage fights is that learning parties die off after a month. There's a bit of FOMO, also if you work for a living (oncall), or have family or other obligations raiding is likely out of reach. Some make it work, but I've seen marriages end over this game.

I'm an anxious fellow, it takes me a week or more sometimes to face duties with people. i always watch guide videos! but then i freak myself out watching the guide and give up. when i finally do the quest duty, it's always easier than i was stressing it would be. it kind of amazes me that there are people who have been playing for perhaps fifty times the length of time I have done (i started 6mo ago) but are comfortable/confident enough to go into new content blind. I'm always scared of annoying someone or making someone feel like i'm slowing their progress down.

I also feel really anxious about slowing down other players. I've been playing for much longer than you, but now it almost feels worse to die knowing I have so much experience hahaha! Knowing your class inside and out definitely helps to adapt to new situations, try other classes too, you might find one that's easier to learn on! Blind runs are incredibly fun! It's not about being skilled enough to handle things blind, the point of a blind run is actually that everyone is blind, so you fail and learn together without pressure! If you can get up the courage, I highly recommend trying brand new content as soon as it drops, for example normal raids right on patch day. Literally no one has any idea what's going on, many people will die, and everyone is excited to see what's coming next. It's scary but it's the lowest that pressure will ever be when joining a new fight! I know anxiety is a fickle beast so "just do it" isn't great advice lol, but I wanted to offer a different perspective on blind runs at least. Shifting my perspective helped me a lot, and also finding friends I trust to support me when I'm not feeling brave. FFXIV is a great community and most players are super forgiving especially on new content. Whenever someone pipes up in chat to say they are new or not very good at a fight, I feel inspired to look out for them. Good luck!! ^^

I play at least 4 hours a day, reference the optimal rotation for the jobs I play, am very interested in playing correctly-- but here's the thing: being 50 years old, unmedicated ADHD (girls in the 70's and 80's weren't on the ADHD radar, and heart conditions that run in my family mean no stimulants for me), and my first real video games (aside from the original Atari console) being SWG and EQ2 have me at a disadvantage. Those games didn't exactly prepare me for ffxiv lol, specifically all the movement and quick reactions required. There's a reason I play SMN lol. My dps is good, but my reaction to mechanics is a struggle. I can finally do Aglaia and not die and not just follow the herd. The knockback bull bird thing in P7N is my personal nightmare. I would love to try an extreme, and savages look like so much fun-- but I will never inflict my slow learning style on strangers. Now with several classes to 90 and no real interest in crafting or pvp, the game is starting to stagnate for me a bit and I feel stuck, especially when people talk about how "faceroll" dungeons and raids are, my primary sources of fun and challenge in the game. I'm hoping someday I'll stumble across a group of geezers who want to form a static to limp through content together.

If you want to get into some entry level harder content I personally recommend trying out hydaelin ex. The fight isn't gimmicky at all like zodiark/rubicante and has a lot of moderately challenging mechanics like light waves or resolving chakrams. It will also help familiarize yourself with some norms of extreme+ content like prepositions (though I don't recall if hydaelin ex in particular requires clock spreads) and light parties. Something important to keep in mind about these fights is that, while yes, the mechanics you see in savage or extreme are definitely harder than in an alliance raid like aglaia, the players who do extremes/savages are better on average and the flow of savage prog is grinding through and resolving individual mechanics. You will notice continual improvement and the "scary" notion of harder content goes away pretty quickly when you realize everyone is in the same boat to some degree. Extreme/savage fights are also WAY less random than alliance raids where you can die for pretty stupid reasons (for example, I play dragoon and do pretty good damage; in the new alliance raid, the second boss is a pair of bosses and I often have one of the tanks die early into the fight where I get aggro, none of the other tanks notice and I literally die because I did my job too well lol) Also, if you wanted to create a group I encourage you to try using party finder. Depending on the content you're trying to clear it can take a while for parties to fill but you have a lot of control in party finder tailoring it to your preferences between posting a custom description to having ilvl/job/role restrictions (or lack thereof, outside of minimum duty ilvl requirements). It's very achievable Bonus tip for entertainment - me and my friend have recently been running guildhests to make fun of commendation farmers and it's been a joy so far lol

2:17 AND I would add: the more stubborn, inflexible, defensive, irresponsible your mindset is, the more other players don't want to play with you. You gotta be open-minded, and take advice for improvements wherever and whenever you get the chance, or go and make that chance! look up a 3rd-party job guide, read the basics, practice on a dummy, and practice some more! and be sure to think for yourself, a guide is a guideline, not gospel. Adapt & adjust to downtime/uptime and MITIGATE THOSE RAIDWIDES TANKS AND DPS!!! this applies to other content to. in other words, life. Plus, Kougaon, if your definition of "fun" is causing back breaking harm to others, you may want to reconsider your definition of fun.

I would love to get into raiding, but my biggest hurdle is not having the time to dedicate to it. xp There is also some lingering poor expierences from playing WoW, where even getting into basic dungeons and trying to learn them was like people expecting you to just suddenly know how to perfect run a fight you've never even touched, screw even being able to touch mythics. You died too many times in content that was unfamiliar to you, and you'd just get kicked from party. How are you ever supposed to learn it?

  • @soonnah9521

For me personally, I don't care enough to go and do research for fights and overthink every single rotation down to the exact second - because that's where a game loses its fun for me. I've done my years of serious gaming, with competitive modes so I'm tired of it. However the people I play with - especially one of them - are hardcore raiders and are waiting for me to hit lvl90 to drag me into them as well. I've explained that I'm only here for fun and not here to hard mode the extremes/savages/ultimates, I don't wanna be on the receiving end of toxicity just because I'm not try-harding like others. I prefer much more chill vibes. So the moment someone expects me to go and actually research something for a game? Nah, I'd rather learn through trial and error than treat it like an exam I'm studying for.

That is exactly what my friends told me when I wanted to dip my feet in Savage last year xD ! They made me learn my opener properly and the one thing that I believe made quite the difference is that we started from the older content, unsync, and then worked up to the newer ones. (I will proudly say that I was able to clear P5S in less than a month in PF \o/) We don't have a static together, mostly because I don't have a proper schedule thx to college :v , so they have their own groups and when we can we PF stuff nowadays. To those who are still afraid, it's ok. If you need someone to hand-hold you, find a friend you know will have the patience to go step by step with you, be it by teaching you or by learning with you, it makes a world of difference. And you will get out of it having a lot of funny memories (yes speaking from experience. I don't think I'll ever forget when Sis just turned off her stance during O4S's after we pulled and said "hey, you're mt now, have fun" or when my whole group on call started saying I was dead and goodbyes during O12S' beam and I survived because I was 1 pixel out of the AoE thx to BLM bullshit powers). Just remember that the aim is to have fun :D and just like Kou said, you can always just wait a while then unsync/leave it be if you are not having fun.

YES i was nervous as hell, but i had a good and patient teacher, we had 15 wipes and 3 hours of learning and we were able to clear P1S with basicly 2 new people in the group. (Myself included) I havent done savage since cuz this was just a trial from my FC as an introduction. But if they do it again i deffinetly join in

4:17 Spite is a very powerful motivator :D A really good push for me was to out-do a friend of mine... they beat E5 E6 E7, so one time I invited her to a E5 PF with me & some other friends. She was the one failing constantly, cause "PFpartys dont do callouts". Earlier she was mocking me for not-being good enough, and she was being prettymuch being carried by the shotcaller... which I don't really like hypocrites AT ALL, sooooo I did E5 E6. Then work got in the way and i just didn't have the ability to do E9+. But when Endwalker came out, i was able to do/learn the first 2or3 fights of each tier VIA PARTYFINDER & 0 callouts. So I'm happy now. ((Friend ended up being manipulative & deceitful, which caused her to leave the FC/discords/groups... and last i heard she went back to WoW with her tail between her legs.))

Something I've noticed going through a handful of extremes is that even when I've studied ahead of time for some of the added mechanics, I often stutter my character around a bit as I anxiously try to either look for the cast bars or visual tells for things. So while I might not die to many things which is good, I think that's been clipping my rotations. I'd hope anyone with more raiding experience would tell me if I'm crazy thinking about this? Like, are you supposed to think about your actions like they are in snapshots just like you would with AOE circles (it's an yes or no at a certain server tick, in this case a few seconds before or after a GCD)? If this is the case, I hope I can become less anxious the more experience I get and just move less unless absolutely necessary.

The best advise I can give you is practicing your opener/re-opener. All jobs are designed with the 2min burstphase in mind (except PLD but there is probably an adjustment coming in 6.3). If you do your opener and rotation correct the majority of your dps-cooldowns will be back up at the 2/4/6...min mark. Once you can do your rotation blind you have way more time to focus on the fight themselfs (this also helps with anxiety of fucking up your damage by fucking up your rotation) and you`ll be overgeared for most fights anyway after week 1 and therefor even a little fuck up in the rotation is not really a problem. Also mechanics > dps, once you know a fight only then you can optimize your damage. The main problem I encounter with PF-people on new content or in learning groups is that they greed way to hard shifting the focus on the healers from the group to babysitting them and dying to vuln-stacks or oneshot-mechanics anyway and probably wiping the group. Whenever you watch a video of a fight and wonder why it looks so easy for them, it`s 1 of 2 things: either they have done that fight 20-30-500 times OR they have several thousand hours in that kind of content. If you practiced singing the same song for 300 times you will be good at it. At the end of the day it really is just practice.

  • @halmyrach

It's totally normal, the more familiar you get with the rhythm of a fight the less you have to think about looking for things and you feel your rotation becoming more natural while mechanics are being thrown at you. So it takes a lot of wipes and clear before you lose that feeling of being always on the lookout for what's next. How many depends on the player and experience. Just hang in there and enjoy the content you already do :)

That’s normal. Just practice, practice, practice. Join fresh prog groups so you can practice over and over again until you get the rhythm to the fights. You will get a huge confidence boost when you realize you’re the one instructing other players on the fight mechanics, people looking to you who will think you’re hella experienced when in fact you’ve just had experience dying to the same thing they just died to twenty times already. Fresh prog groups people are super chill and expect to wipe for hours. Don’t go expecting to clear. Go in expecting to die a lot, die so much our monkey brain pattern recognition kicks in and you see the tells you’ve been too panicked to brain-parse before. Ask your party if something’s not making sense. I’ve also acknowledged to my party I’m frustrated with myself because I’m freezing and hesitating due to anxiety and most of the time people have been really supportive and it helped me calm down and I did better, knowing people weren’t judging me for it like I was afraid of. Go in minimum ilvl if it’s old synced content, just to expose yourself to more mechanics. Even regular raids, trials, and dungeons. Most raid mechanics are first seen in dungeons to bosses that have 1-2 mechanics per fight, so there’s less to keep track of while you learn the raid language and pacing to fights. If you’re on Aether my home is Sargatanas and I run minimum ilvl everything at every opportunity because it just slows fights down enough to where I can see the whole fights mechanics. Best of luck to you :)

All very good pieces of advice. I only have one gripe. Nobody addresses the players who are new and want to clear the old stuff with min IL no echo blind. That's right, I'm that player. Nobody ever wants to raid with someone who hasn't watched the guide on how to beat the boss or how to solve the puzzle. If you want to play the game blindly, you're better off rushing through everything and getting to the new content when it comes out and pray you are playing with someone who hasn't touched the new content yet. Except, when you actually want to enjoy the story, it doesn't work that way. When you want to experience every raid or dungeon blindly, it doesn't work that way. Unless you're extremely lucky to have found a group who wants to experience it the same way... Which I have not. And I've been trying for a hot minute. And it's so freaking painful to be that guy who hasn't watched the guide and have to act like you have or be silent in chat to only then be kicked unless you are good at making up excuses as to why you died twice in 30 seconds. Because NOBODY wants to play with the blind guy.

doesn't matter how much I want to clear endwalker savage tier for the really cool glams. between being so anti-social I'm glad they finally added more solo content and not having more than 2 friends who hardly even play xiv, there's no way I have time to commit to the time required to do savage tiers. on top of that I'm an old school gamer that prefers to not "study" a fight but rather learn on the go! where's the fun in knowing how a fight is gonna go down before hand? that being said, I also enjoy trying to solo old content and I hope they (SE xiv devs) keep up the trend to make those fights become "easier" as time goes on. there's nothing wrong with always trying to improve yourself and get better, and this is just one way of doing that. personally as a solo player I'm doing a lot of potd/hoh and the new dungeon from 6.25. I just wish that you could get some of the cooler rewards that are locked behind that content right away. like if they added in a toggle (like the new 6.25 dungeons) where I select that I am a solo player and the fight scales to that. but that is of course after they finish all the work they need to do and take time off as they should to live their own lives. and I know that will probably never happen so I will stay satisfied with the solo content I have for now. but also keep hoping for the future!

I feel like for me and probably a relatively decent number of people that are interested in raiding (despite xiv's overall reputation for being pretty accepting of people's mistakes and not being needlessly horrible) there's still that massive hesitancy to jump into something with the name Savage or Extreme, or even something as notoriously difficult as an Ultimate, especially with random people in a PF group. There's a part of me that wants so desperately to get into raiding and do the more difficult content since a lot of the rewards are Mega Tasty, but being my first mmo that I've actually gotten up to current content with (WoW was literally just. following an ex-friend around to do older content *they* wanted to do for transmog or mount hunting and never doing anything I wanted to do) makes me feel like despite my 1600+ hours in this game that I don't have the, I guess, "credence" to just walk in and try to do Savage content, much less ask to join/form a group considering the only Savage content I've touched is the Alexander raids at current max level for some glam pieces I wanted. I'm sure it's a minority view among the playerbase, considering how often I actually do see Legend titles or players with rare shiny weapons/armor wandering around doing things that aren't just raiding, but stepping into the harder content from only doing MSQ/older content at current max level is extremely daunting and keeps my hand hovering over my mouse and just never clicking the button to join groups out of fear of being ridiculed for not being Good Enough or for not understanding the 30 different raiding terms and shorthand they have in the PF descriptions. This video does help alleviate that feeling a bit though, and it's come at a time when I've been trying to push myself more and more the past few days to actually take that first step and get over all this negative baggage I've put onto myself so thank you for making it. ^u^

The two things barring me from raiding is time and guides/mechanics. Time wise, I work a 9-5 which leaves me somewhat tired at the end of the day, my weekends are less busy but 2 days is not a lot. The second being guides. I'm a kinesthetic learner, and struggle with retaining information, I also easily suffer from information overload so my brain just crashes when reading a guide, or someone explaining things to me. I learn by doing, which unfortunately in a raid sense isn't ideal and is a lot slower. This means dying several hundreds of times before I understand what to do. I also heavily rely on callouts, as my brain cannot process doing a rotation while figuring out complex mechanics. I can remember simple mechanics but more complex ones such as Aglia boss fights stall my brain, so I'd rather stay away from the raid scene to avoid being a hindrance. I just don't have the mental ability and capacity.

What puts me off from doing high-end content is when people tend to try and Maximize their DPS when the PF is a *Clear* Party. Let me explain... I have had multiple times where people have ignored the basis of a "Clear" Party for the sake of Pushing DPS. When I tried to learn and clear Sophia in Stormblood (I was trying to do it syncd for some reason, I think it was for the BLU spell before they allowed for unsync. Me and two other players were the only ones needing it. but other people were needing clears and learning.) Anyway, I had put no Dupes (Making sure to restrict classes to what we didn't have to be safe) Just for the sake of building LB III Quicker. Eventually I got my spell and switched to BRD someone dropped and a RDM switched. Me being paranoid, I was watching the list. I queue us up and I see them switch to BRD. I sighed- making a public statement in Party chat and the person was like "I mean, I'm better with BRD and I want to see how far I can get." We wiped every time with them. Once they left we started doing good again. Now onto something more recent: Similar situation but just a simple clear party for Sephirot UR. Everything was fine until the SAM decided to jump to the from (I had the close tether and they had the back tether so when they jumped, it went back to them.) back to the front. Dying to the explosion. They decided to start attacking me in the chat about how I didn't take their tether (The PLD saw everything and agreed I wasn't at fault) naturally I told them that they died because they didn't do their mechanic correctly and they told me "I was trying to push DPS, not my fault you screwed up your mechanic!" (Nobody had even mentioned pushing DPS until now so nobody even knew about them doing it as far as I know. Later when snapshots where coming they started attacking me about "running around like a chicken with my head cut off". I just simply stated I was dodging mechanics. (since I was RPR and didn't want to get smacked by the snapshots, keep in mind this was a clear/learning party) and then they started arguing with me about how I was doing everything wrong. Funny enough this happened in one run and if they didn't leap forward during tethers, we would have cleared. I just don't like people trying to "Push DPS" when it's a party for a specific reason- if people *want* to try pushing in a clear/learning, then they should ask since everyone's goal is just to get through it and pushing dps/clean-up's can come after.

Great video! Slowly trying to convince myself and my FC/Static into raiding harder and harder content but im more worried about me cause I know I suck at my openers right now and I'M THE MT!! Plus I need to practice call outs but I gotta attempt it eventually. For those learning their jobs or changing and needing to relearn I reccomend WeskAlber he does great 1-90 job guides and gives you expanding openers to work on if your max level one is too much to digest.

Probably frowned upon because so many people do learn their opener by memory, but one thing that worked for me, someone who has bad memory when it comes to certian things, was to set up my buttons for my opener on a seperate, smaller hotbar that I could then place somewhere that would still allow me to keep my eyes mostly up and off my hot bar. That way, all I had to do was remember when I needed to hit certian abilities more than once in the chain, and I could run through my opener with very little to no misses or down time. Also, after a while, you start to get a feel for when your opener will be up again for full usage. Often I have noticed, that as long as you are timing the initial opener correctly and your team isn't being super slow about moving the fight along, your openers will re-up at ideal points in the boss's phases. Such as being able to get my opener re-up during Saline Spit on the last boss of Aether Font and having a super easy attack to dodge while I fire off opener round 2. Or, having it up again as the bosses go through phase transition animations, such as Sephirot Unreal falling off the stage to get ready for phase 3.

I've been a raider and a static leader in this game for years. However, I got really disillusioned with how people everywhere only resorts to cookie-cutter ready-made strats from the "accepted norm" in Party Finder, even inside statics they expect you to follow every paradigm of a party finder group. Nobody thinks outside the box, and if you have any kind of different approach everyone - and I mean EVERYONE - will just betray you, leave your group and then talk smack behind your back to anyone you dare invite to your static. Haven't touched the game for anything other than MSQ or the occasional Alliance raid for more than a year now.

I just started playing this year! Beginning of January. I cleared ARR a week or two ago! Since then, whilst taking a break from fetch quest and back and forth simulations that is part 2, I've been crafting (got all to lvl 50 earlier this week) and doing the hard, and then extreme trials! I've beaten up to Ifrit! And believe me. I was BAD at my job. I'm a paladin main, and there were so many mechanics I just didn't understand going through the msq about my job. I'm still getting the hang of it, but I have enough of a grasp that I can clearly see when I mess up now. While I still do terribly some days, enough people are patient and explain things properly that I never feel like giving up because I got us wiped (which just happened on the Titan ex trial I completed just hours ago - got us wiped once early, but then saved us at the end!) I love this game, and the vast majority people have been wonderful so far (minus a few). I never knew I should be looking for specific foods though. Of course I've been crafting my own, but I never really thought of looking for optimized dishes beyond a few (maybe) obvious ones. Openers and skill weaving is something I need to get better at for sure. I never thought to use the practice dummies though! Seems so obvious now 😂 I've been getting by just puttering along. But I definitely want to get better! I think this video was exactly what I needed! So glad this popped into my feed!

What should be mentioned, too is that, progging in pf or progging with a static is also very different from each other. In most of Times you get the kills you want with half of time investment when you join a static. But tbh i play 7 years now and never seen a static that sticks togehter very long(atleast in european servers). Argues, the high pressure you have, cause of dps, expectations to other players and fix days you HAVE to be there for static...Most ppl dont have fun with that kind of playstyle very long. But even so it still has a few more benefits. I dont want to be mean or something, but i know a lot of static players, who trying hard doing normal content all by Themselves, but get savage down easily with their static. Thats cause if you do it with 7 other players in ear talking to each other, explaining or calling out mechanics Happening next, some ppl get so much routine in this fight, they dont even need to concentrate anymore. For example i had a friend who always died to evry mechanic in ridorana, cause He didnt get the mechs, even after a few month of release, but still was able to kill the first 2 savages of the current Tier with his static. I helped friends out with kills and farming sometimes where i did the whole callouts. If i missed one callout 4 of 5 ppl who were in there with me died, cause they were used to the callouts. What i want to say some Fights can be done braindead if you have 1 or 2 persons doing good callouts in vc. i formyself never joined a static and i killed my savage and ex always via pf, it does work though. Pf Has pro and contra aswell ofc. Pro is, you can choose for yourself which days a week you wanna go practice. If you wanna do this 7 days a week you can do and if you only wanna do it one day then just do it once a week^^ the progress is a different thing, if you are a fast learner helps alot for joining grps in pf. There are many different strats in pf and its very Hard to practice with all the strats around if you are Not flexible enough to do fast switch of your Position you normally practice on, or just run different direction you ran last run. This can be really confusing. Also sometimes you join partys where not evryone is on the same step of practice than you are and you have to practice earlier steps again and again, which needs alot of patience.Pf gets more easy the longer time has passed since Release of the content, cause ppl have better gear and dont die so easily and dont hit the enrage so fast. But there is the contra, that finding grps for that after a month of release is far harder. Fazit: Pf: is harder to get your kills(often takes double time to kill), but the time you wanna spend in the content is completly up to you and you dont have any pressure except you make it yourself^^.(recommended for shiftworkers or players who have family or just dont wanna bind themselves to the game) Static: getting your kills way faster, with half amount of time needed. And Getting the kills constatly more easier cause of gpr dynamic, callouts and fix strats you play. To the price of fix days you have to be online(which are decided before you start practice), if you want to or Not doesnt matter for most statics around. If you have a date or your mother is ill, go and find replace for you,or you will be kicked after youve been missing the Fights too often, whats understandable too, cause other members want to make prog. If you alrdy spend much time in the game and dont have problem with that type of playing its the best and easiest way to get your kills:) This are just the experiences i have made in all of my years around. And evryone has to make their own. But guess most of ppl would say the same.

Kou spitting facts, and just to show it. I've gathered the sample size of 231 encounters from all my raiding with my favorite raid group, from Mid Stormblood to mid Shadowbringers. Loved the guys. Still do and even if we don't raid we talk on occasion. Either way, 231 encounters and I had 40 9% logs... That is 17.3% of all my fights ended in gray parses. And that's just the nines. Because that was a huge meme in our raid group. Another fine addition to my collection! Those were for some of our earlier clears though not always. It takes time, you'll have to learn sure. But that's part of the fun, well at least for me. If your fun comes from just being there with friends, then that's great. Enjoy that as well! Once you find the right group... Man raiding becomes fucking amazing.

Another great tool is ffxiv analysis cause it'll tell you certain things you are missing or mis using in your rotation too it helped me start to maximize my damage when iI was still getting used to a new job and all you need to do is copy and paste a link from fflogs into the url and it'll pull up that fight and tell you how to improve and it'll cover your rotation for the whole fight. You can also look up some higher end parsers/players and see what they are doing in certain fights for their rotation.

I will never be able to do savage+ content for one reason. I refuse to do them non-blind because i find watching a guide/listening to leader extremely unrewarding. (NOTE: we are talking about first clear not reclears when you know/ should know the mechanics from your blind finished prog) Then you may say just find a group of people that want to do it the same way. HOWEVER. There are some impactful problems which are the key reasons why i will never do Savage and UP. 1. Find 7 people other people who want to the same thing (Blind prog - And I am not talking just about current tier - I am talking about savages + from Stromblood onwards on min Ilvl no Echo. 2. This one makes it high nigh impossible. Find a schedule that works for all 8 of us for a minimum of 2-3 hours of raiding. We say that FF is a great MMO because the old content doesnt get destroyed (Can always do old fights thanks to min ilvl as an example) and yet when i see most of the time comments online about people wanting to do them the general response is: JUST WATCH A GUIDE. This one sentence destroy the FF doesnt negate the content. Because I really really want to do the fights and am willing to spend hours of wiping just to get that satisfaction of beating the boss because I/my group figured out how to do it. - hell W1 raiders dont have guides to rely on so why should I? (WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT PUGS). I think i even have the capacity as a good visual learner when i am able to get most mechanics from normal to ex get figured out on 1-3 tries so I am not scared to do it but the "Paragraph" that i just wrote sumarized why i have basically 0 chance of doing savage aka hard content in a way that feels rewarding and satisfying for me.

No shit, saaaaaaame. I've only done E4S about a year ago and I had watch and study a guide, which I did. We cleared it sure and others were happy but I didn't feel any excitement since it was only following my role for the guide and listening to call outs. I felt carried and I hated it. I am much better at the game now than I was then but I don't feel like I will ever be good enough since I am holding others back by not watching a guide. I don't want to spend hours hoping someone joins a blind prog party when I can just do my own thing with deep dungeons.

I have only done the 2nd EW trial (don't wanna spoil it to others) on Extreme because a friend of mine wanted to prog it with randoms on PF. I was super afraid and decided, better be safe than sorry, and chose PLD. As Kou recommended, I tackled my opener, my roation, food, gear etc. That's the basic stuff. It took me two days to clear the trial, members switching in and out of the team because it was party finder. I felt discouraged. Too often I ended up being 4th or 3rd on dps because our dps just.. died. But it's really all about "learning by doing". At some point I had enough time to check my offtanks debuffs, buffs, vuln stacks.. I knew whether I had to take the double tank buster on my own with my invuln or not when the other tank was struggling. I ended up covering healers and tanks and finding usage in all of my skills. It was like an enlightenment to me. I NEVER used cover in casual content but now you had me actively thinking "okay, who needs help?" The more difficult content lets you see your class in all of its glory. In the end I also learned I'm not ready to invest that much time into one piece of content. It's just not for me. And that's fine! To each their own. All I can say is: Don't be afraid, give it a try. maybe grab a friend or two with experience and just.. roll with it. There is a minimum you need to do (otherwise you will drag down the group) but make sure to communicate. Tell others what you're struggling with. Because we've all been there. All of us have seen a mechanic, a debuff or a marker for the first time. But we learned from it. And that's important! Be willing to learn and it WILL work out.

This video is fantastic, it is basically my mindset as I began to raid at the beginning of Abyssos. I dabbled in some ex prog before-hand but now I wanted to prove that even casual filth like me can clear content (also I want the Abyssos rod so bad I s2g). This started because of some parse-junkie in a... venue rp server I shared who had the audacity to gatekeep savage raiding, making fun of parses from casual people in the discord just happy to post their improvement, and going as far as telling my friend who was struggling with P5S "Maybe this is a wakeup call that you should quit raiding. the sooner you do the better :)". Me and my friend both got clears and are well on our way to finishing 7s, and even though I had anxiety about swapping to BLM from WHM (I got bored of healing) I can confidently say ANYONE can savage raid, you just need to invest the time for it and learning your class'.

Thats the best video on raiding I have seen in a while. As someone who might just have finished his "last round" with Raiding this tier due to most of my friends not playing FF14 anymore and me raiding in this game for 8 years, I honestly (not trying to be mean just stating my thoughts) cannot understand why people are scared of it. If you show you have even a mildly drive to improve or clear no one will get angry. Some static may or may not "kick" you out of the party...but while that sucks, it doesnt mean anything in the end. You weren't fit for that group for whatever reason. There is another you will fit in! As with everything in live practices make you better. If you are willing to take the time you can and will clear content. You might not finish the 4th fight of a tier on content your first time trying...But you will. But if there is one thing I want to say again: Search for a group with similar goals then you. Most statics I saw that split up or kicked people were statics/people that did not talk about their goals properly. different goals will sooner or later lead to being a problem as a team. I might sounded more negative then I actually meant those things. I just want people to enjoy raiding

As long as you get the clear it doesnt really matter what parse you get. All that really matter is whether you can do mech or not, which you can easily look up on youtube with hector's guide

I have said I would only do that content if I find a group of people that I can get along with to avoid any unnecessary stress that could come with toxicity or just not being able to handling the frustration of the fight. I also have a problem and is that I haven't found my main job or one that I dominate, maybe Dancer which feels natural to me but idk. Memorizing too cumbersome rotations is not my thing so maybe I'll be better healing or tanking? Idk, it's something I'm trying to figure out because I would love to do that content but I don't have the group and feel really intimidated. I did the Criterion Dungeon with a friend (duo) and we were progging the fight which is a new thing for me (not for her) and I was so frustrated cause it annoys me when I don't get why I'm dying and also when I have to pay attention to what is going on and mess up my dps badly. Then she told me that this is how you prog and that your damage/rotation is a complete mess until you learn the fight which was a "ahhhhhh" moment for me lol. Anyway, I'm happy to see others like me here and someday I will be raiding I hope. I don't see myself being hardcore but I do want those mounts, gear, weapons, etc damn it.

Unless you're super new and have no idea how your job works I'd highly recommend practicing in max lvl normal or alliance raids over a training dummy, they're both extremely forgiving and offer far more opportunities to improve than a dummy. When doing any max lvl content enemies will not let you go through your rotation at your leisure, knowing how to handle interruptions at different points of your rotation is very important. Things to keep in mind while practicing: ABC (Always Be Casting, keep that gcd rolling at all times), don't overcap resources, and make sure your cds are being used when available unless there's a good reason to hold them. Handling mechanics will always be more important than hiccups in your rotation, don't stress but think of what could be done better for next time. For tanks and healers don't blow everything at once, make sure you're both using your powerful cds and always have something available when it's needed. Something to note: Enemy attacks are completed when their cast bar is full whether or not the telegraph for that attack is visible. You can be out of a telegraph and die or in a telegraph and live, it's very awkward at first but very helpful to understand. If you're a caster you're able to move slightly before your cast finishes, this is called slide casting and is very helpful to keep casting while avoiding mechanics - it can be practiced from as early as lvl 1 and I highly recommend doing so at all times - during the msq, dailies, roulettes, whatever.

Sounds like me and how I now recognize towers in more recent content thanks to grinding away at Sephirot Unreal, learning the mechanics and clearing it several times. I am just sad there is no achievement for completeing a specific Unreal, because to me, that was my first experience with clearing something that difficult, it was a trip, a lot of work, and having something to commenmorate it, if for no one else but myself, would have been nice. Eventually, I hope to have the time to dedicate to clearing more of them so I can get some of the Mr. Faux items. Honestly, I would love to tackle Savage and Ultimates, and I think I could honestly do it if I worked at it enough to learn the fights front to back (Sephirot Unreal phase 3 felt like a dance once I got it down), but my biggest problem right now is that I simply do not have the time available to commit to grinding out the fights and working with a static. I work far too much, and that keeps me the most from content that isn't simply pick it up, prog some and drop it whenever. My second biggest hurdle is being ADHD. I eventually got to where I could filter out the things I didn't need to pay attention to in Sephy Unreal, but oh my gosh is was a painful struggle to not have my brain torn apart by everything tah was happening. The yellow flash he does right at the begining of phase 3 and through out it...I could not even see that for several days. It literally did not register to my mind even though I kept trying to see what everyone was talking about. When it finally did, I had to wonder why I wasn't able to see it originally.
