That trick with the thread through the elastic to act like a hold is the BEST hack I’ve seen.❤
It would be lovely if you created a book for beginner sewers. You have a knack for explaining things so easily and you have such a pleasant personality. Thanks 🙏

You can possibly become a member and you can download materials from there if you wanted something written. For me, I found most books to be extremely difficult to grasp new crafts when I was a beginner as I would have to interpret what the author was trying to tell me just via sentences and limited visual aids like pictures. The best thing is a video instruction like this and supporting written patterns or instructions on how to construct a pattern that we can download. I found that it’s the best way to understand new techniques or new crafts (quilting, knitting, crocheting etc also the same, I wouldn’t be able to pick up those things from books 😅). But something written would be nice to be able to refer back later after the video! 😊

You make these projects look so easy. Cute tops. I remember wearing these in the early 70’s. They have never really gone out of style. Thank you for the great tutorial!
Hello Alisa 😊. You are looking bright and beautiful. Isn’t it so great to never run into anyone else in your outfit. It just feel wonderful to be one of a kind. 👌🏼

Thank you for your kind words! The yellow one really pops, doesn't it? The blue one I will be wearing with blue sneakers that I wear every summer :)
This is fantastic, most of the peasant blouses I've seen are made with wovens but I have the perfect thin jersey for this project.

You look beautiful. I love this video. You inspired me to sew more than quilts. Thank you ❤
Thank you so much for this. I'm working on a sew-along video right now for a vintage reprint of a Simplicity peasant blouse with an underarm gusset. What a nightmare! I plan to recommend several peasant blouse patterns both Big 4 and indie and even self-drafted. I'll definitely be adding this to the list. It looks fantastic on you and so easy to follow.

Oh, under-arm gussets can be a real pickle. I hope you make it through without too much trouble! Thank you, and starting with a raglan sleeve pattern is even easier, just add ease tot he sleeve and bodice and ta-da! Peasant top ready :)

Love how you explain things so clearly. Your explanation of doing the square neck was the best explanation I’ve seen.
Both of your new tops look wonderful on you. Some of the new tops (sold in department stores) look like old fashion maternity tops.Your tops do not. They look very comfortable. Thank you for this video.
Can’t wait to make this top. Thanks. Your amazing
Beautiful top. Thanks for sharing 😊
I love this top 😍 thank you so much Alisa ❤❤❤
Again, thank you! This top is actually a great tummy hider. I will make one with about 2" material under waist elastic like the shirt I bought years ago and wore to thinness. 😊

Hello there and thank you so much for a kind comment :) You know, after something does not go right in my won sewing I keep telling myself - I gotta dust myself off, pick myself up and keep going because it won't sew it itself :) You can totally do it, sometimes we just have to go through obstacles to get there :)
You did it again Alisa and the top looks nice and comfortable. Thank you for the tutorial! ❤You had me cracking up, with the arm waving test..lol..I was like, throw yo hands in the airrrr and wave em like you just don't care....WAVE APPROVED! 😁

Ha ha, lol, you get me :) but so important right? I get really frustrated if I have any wardrobe malfunctions like slipping straps - I had a store bought top like this years ago and that was an issue. But so satisfying when you can make it just like you want it :) wave approved :) ❤️

@@ThoughtfulCreativity I totally get you! Lol. I have a store bought top like this and I ended up having to do the hair wrap method ( I'm sure that's not what it's called 🤣) but I had to tie 2 together, slip my arm in it and tie the other end to the armpit, in the inside of the shirt...A MESS!! 😵💫😁 That was years ago but I will most definitely be doing the approved wave test! 😉
That's a gorgeous summer shirt! You make it look easy!

I love the thread tip for the end of the elastic! Both of these are so cute. And I’m curious as to how you’ve avoided collecting extra sewing machines?? 😂 People find out I sew and just give them to me (restoring them is a whole other hobby of mine). Hubby asks me WHY do you need another one?? I don’t know, I just do! ❤

I love your channel! I've been sewing for over 20 years and I still learn little tricks from you and sometimes I just watch your videos because they are fun you have a great camera personality and you explain very clearly.
I love this top! Simple and easy to sew but can look fairly polished. I like the elastic waist because it can be worn over the waistband of the pants (like you do with the jeans) and it looks like you tucked it in without having all that bulk at your waist on hot summer days. I made something similar a few months ago by copying a store-bought top but your approach looks even easier. May have to make another one!

Karen, you are so right, agree 100% on the elastic waist - yes and yes! And I like that elastic on the hem also brings in all that volume of the bodice in.

So great.
Stunning tops. I just wish i could fly to you for face to face lessons.😂
I love your pattern drafting vids. This top is great…what you might consider doing is another video with all the variations you can do from one pattern. Like make channels instead of sewing elastic and use drawstrings. Keyhole neckline with drawstrings. Make long sleeves. Use see through material to make a top for layering. Make a dress. Take off the sleeves and put in side slits in side seams with maxi length with a drawstring neckline for summer beach dress. It would encourage multiple uses of this pattern once it is drafted. And maybe more interest in drafting it. Even though if you only make this top in various materials for summer and wear it with those pants….it is definitely a winner.

Hello. I live in the UK and have just started my sewing journey at the age of 60. I have found your videos very helpful. I am thinking of joining your membership but I just need to know I am a large lady and am wondering if your clothes will just adapt to someone much larger than yourself. thank you.
Greetings. Love You and Your channel. I am looking for a suggestion on how to pad up my dress form. Can you offer me any recommendations ?????
Thank you Allisa for such a beautiful top. I would love to know how easy would it be to make the pants into a skirt. I love the details on the waist and the way it flows. It would look so lovely as a maxi skirt.

Hello there, Joy! The short answer is - Lots and lots of reading and combing through different books, in different languages and understanding different drafting techniques and finding common denominators, because in different parts of the world there are different cultures of pattern drafting, and using geometry to tie it all together. And of course then - putting it all in practice and seeing what works and what needs to be adjusted and why and how does it all play out with the use of different fabrics and techniques. I think seeing sewing patterns in terms of shapes really make a big difference, here I made a video about it, I think it might help you to get started - kzread.info/dash/bejne/hHiq1M5_XbK_Yrg.html

@ThoughtfulCreativity thank you for your very thought-provoking answer. I'll try visiting local used bookstore & see what I can find. The different languages & geometry will be a problem! It has been years since I studied either one BUT I'm game to try tackling it cause I want to try & do this. Wish I had researched this while in college a lifetime ago (great-grandma now).
I know it's been gone for a while, but what made you take down the wall covering? You suffered so much putting it up lol. The white is nice, clean and minimal vibe.
