I want Sigga in Eurovision, but sad that she will sing in english in the final. This song is so much better in icelandic. She was the wildcard tho, so it has almost no chance they will not chose Bashar.

Doesn't Iceland practically always translate the winner song into English..? That's an odd practice, IMO songs should be performed in NF in the language they will actually be sung in ESC, otherwise people don't really know what they are voting for... But each to their own, of course ;)

@@florenna the rule is that in the semi finals in Iceland they have to sing in Icelandic. In the final they have to sing it in whatever language they will use in Eurovision. So in the end you do know what you're voting for

The issue with Sigga Ózk being the finalist you liked the most is though that she just barely made it into the final through the producers wildcard: The regular qualifications (2 per Semi-Final) in Söngvakeppnin are 100% televote. Of the rest the producers will choose one wildcard, which in this case was Sigga Ózk. So we can expect that she won't recieve that many televotes, so her only chance getting into the superfinal would be through the jury and in the superfinal it is once again 100% televote. So her chances, especially against Bashar Murad, who is I belive among icelanders probably the huge favourite (based on the mood in the arena during the semi-final), are probably quite low. Bashar has also the backing from Hatari, because several of them were involved in the songwriting and the choreography, so in the end I expect him to win, but I wouldn't mind seeing a super-final between Sigga Ózk and Bashar Murad.

The people mass downvoting Bashar before they even saw his performance should be ashamed of themselves. He did an excellent job, his staging was a standout among a bunch of silver/glittery-dressed whatever pop songs, everything from the outfits and choreo to the staging and his charisma was on point. He learned so much Icelandic (and pronounced it well!) just to perform in the semi. The people downvoting are being just as "political" as they claim his entry is - in fact, they are more so, because they judged it long before they watched or listened.

FYI you say söngvakeppnin as sungvakehpnin (the ö makes the same sound as u in nurse amf the nin is just pronounced like in with another n to where it flows together) Also the reason why people are down voting bashar is because he’s Palestinian and people don’t want him to go out simply because of the situation going on

A lot of people are bashing Bashar (lol that was poetic!) but he seriously is a good performer! He has a very sensual way of singing and his pronunciation of Icelandic words seems to be quite fantastic for someone not from Iceland. His staging also served. I kind of wish Stephan's Hope from 2022 had that kind of staging. I think Bashar is getting hate because he is (supposedly) Palestinian, so many Israelis are dropping nasty comments because Iceland were up in the odds at one point. The reality is that Bashar actually went to the SAME school as Israel's Netta in Jerusalem and has ties to Israel. He is not trying to brand himself as an 'oppressed' Palestinian and in general has been reasonably apolitical. Bashar has said in English the meaning of his song is not about Israel vs Palestine, rather about uniting everyone and destroying borders. It is a message for peace across ALL countries. Bashar certainly put on a show! I would very much like to see him in Malmo as his song stands out and is the only one with a good chance of qualifying for Iceland.

8:35 Not everyone likes the song on a song basis either, but on many platform it's gotten reviewbombed with 1/0 stars because Bashar is an advocate for Palestine (He lives in East Jerusalem), and in the eurovision fandom there is also a staunch pro-Israel camp.

@shroomyesc *"In the eurovision fandom there is also a staunch pro-Israel camp"* - really? In that case, where is it?! As I've only seen the *VERY* vocal pro-Palestinian camp... E.g. here in Finland there was a horrible social media campaign directed at the chosen entry, Windows95man, so that he'd refuse to go to ESC, since Israel participates, so we'd have to "boycott"in their opinion, as if that ever did any good to anyone... Luckily he didn't let himself be bombarded into submission, at the end. But that really horrified me, it's as if a small very vocal minority, the anti-Israel camp, has taken over everything now, and nobody asked the majority... (Well, TBH Eurovision is not the only issue where this is apparent, by far, but not relevant here.)

@@florenna I guess you just forgot about all the hate Jesse Markin got when he said he wouldn't go as long as Israel participates? And in any case, you say the campaign as if Win95man and Henri weren't themselves hesitant to go before they even won. They only decided to go because they couldn't affect anything by withdrawing.

  • @florenna

@yesc Didn't see any hate directed Jesse Markin because of that, TBH! Quite the contrary. And nothing about Windows95man & Henri being hesitant to go before winning, either. And yes, there *was* a social media campaign directed at them after winning, even reported in no uncertain words by YLE, so I'm inclined to believe that (esp. seeing how left-wing biased YLE is)... Unsure why some (like you) want to belittle that campaign, but oh well.
