This year I did an unintentional low buy year because I was unemployed for several months. It helped me to reevaluate wants and needs and downright wasteful spending. The job I now have pays much more than the job I lost so I just pretend as if that extra income doesn't even exist. I learned to be grateful for what I already have so I no longer have the desire to want a lot of things. Decluttering and shifting to a minimalist lifestyle also helped me to prioritize.

I do not Need anything...and working on my mindset to not want anything either

One thing that helped my no buy this year is allowing certain wants. I love jeans but I don’t need new jeans. I allowed one pair of jeans this year but didn’t buy any. It really helped my no buy feel less restrictive. When I saw denim that I loved, I thought “you can get them, but that’s it for the year” and decided to think it over for a few days. I ended up never going back for them.

I often put stuff in the cart (online) and leave it. Days after I go back to the website and most of the time I do not even remember what's in there --> I don't buy it.

YES! I'm definitely preparing to do a low-buy year for 2024. Inflation is forcing me to take a more intentional approach to my finances.

We always got and experiences for Christmas…. One year season pass to the aquarium , special classes of some one and their desires. One year one got calligraphy classes, another got taekwondo, or a snowmobile suit. A paint ball mask,. And pass to the paintball park. Theses were Gifts they got all long all year

I spend a lot of money on food so I am committing to cutting back on takeout, dining out, and focusing on cooking more.

Eating out is soooo expensive. If I were rich I'd do it every day tho. I find that since I have gone plant-based I save so much. I spend about 150 EUR/month on food. I stick to the basics. As soon as you start buying processed stuff, the price increases.

This is definitely my goal for 2024. Instead of a birthday trip out of the state, a more local or even staycation looks like a better option.

Thank you for this video. I had to learn the hard way. Learning to save pennies eventually leads to saving dollars. Another lesson I had learn was -is it a "want" or a "need"!

I've watched dozens of low buy/no buy videos and this is hands down the best one. I loved how you broke this down to manageable steps. Do you have a template inventory sheet? I also really liked the suggestion to set a dollar amount for things that are allowed so that you don't go crazy in those areas. Knowing I have a limit to the celebration dinner out is so helpful!

I'm better with my debit card vs cash because it's exact. Also I tend to lose or misplace cash and I don't like having to take out an extra $20 when I just need a couple bucks.

That will be an expense deducted from your emergency fund, not your variable expenses. The things that she mentioned in the video falls into variable expenses and sinking funds coverage (if we do plan to buy certain items and are actively saving for it).

It’s a less restrictive version of a no buy year. You’re allowed to shop, but you set specific limits.
