    Only just came across this video, love it! While BA and FoW are great for platoon and company size battles this seems to be a great rule set for troop sized or 1v1 battles. As an ex-tanker I love the way each dice represents a member of the tank crew and I think it puts great emphasis on what can and can go wrong during an engagement. Only watch a couple of videos and ordered me a rule set :)

    Regarding the first shot on the Cromwell from the Stug this couldn't happen as the Stug has a limited corridor of vision no rotating turret and the Cromwell isn't in its gun channel. The second shot at the Cromwell also couldn't happen as the Stug forgot to acquire the target as the Cromwell had moved since the last aquire and the Stug didn't use any 2's just 3's for aiming But it's a great game, a good set of rules for tank combat.

    move 2 - surely one of the 3s form the tank destroyer is needed to "aim" - because the cromwell moved. Demo would be better if either the "lead" player learnt the rules better, and/or corrections were put on screen. as it is, the demo seems confusing, at best.

    Question, when he was attacking the Panzer IV (end attack at 1:06:30), where he attacked 3 times, why wasn't each subsequent round in his turn reduced by 1 for a Hit? For example; he shot TN:6, three times, when I assume (and we know what assuming does) it would be shot TN:6, shot TN:5, final shot TN:4?

    I watched a Chain of Command video before and the Command Dice thing really threw me off. Here it seemed a lot easier to understand, even if the particular characteristics of each tank and the circumstances that brought up each new rule made it feel a bit like Calvinball. I'll got check out a CoC video and see if I can grasp it better now (even though I still feel like setup couldn't possibly be more involved and taking up time that could be spent playing instead!)

    What A Tanker is incredibly simple. If you cut the waffle you could probably fit the rules on four pages. Chain of Command is whole different kettle of worms. Difficult to explain it in less than 20 or 30 pages.

    Brenneke - A cursory glance at the phenomenal TooFatLardies output of late makes it pretty clear that this cannot have had a vast amount of table time. It still looks like a great game but real life play by thousands of users is sure to generate a number of amendments and improvements. Jan17-April 18, I've written letters that have taken longer that.

  • @Brenneke

    @Brenneke

    6 жыл бұрын

    John Eskins so you assume playtesting only takes place between Rich and Nick, when they can fit it in? That's an odd assumption. Rich and Nick tend to work on their own projects. Nick is on record as saying he developed the rules over Xmas 16, and had them ready for their first test in Jan 17. So they were being tested and developed by Nick from Jan last year. My club has been playtesting it since last summer and feeding back, as have many other groups. Looking at what the Lardies have launched in the last year or so, much has come from the pen of other authors - Swamp Fox, General d'Armee, Pickett's Charge - or Richard, while Nick has worked on this. Bit ridiculous to assume a well established company like TFL doesn't thoroughly test their output before putting it on sale. While I'm sure on the face of it you might think of different ways of doing things, that hardly means it's been rushed out or not thought through.

    You could go to the link for the game and see what they recommend you play with. This kind of game looks like it would work with a variety of miniatures and models. Most games use one of these scales: 15mm, 25mm, 28mm, 1/87scale, 1/72 scale, 1/48 scale. The first 3 are associated with gaming miniatures and the last 3 are model kit scales. You can put something like "15mm miniature tanks" into the YT search and see reviews on a wide variety of kits and a number of instructional vids on painting and weathering if you want to do that. The ones in this vid look like they could be 28mm tanks associated with a game called "Bolt Action". This is a fairly simple game IMHO. There are also more detailed games available like "Flames Of War", "Tanks", "Crossfire" and many others. Miniatures games are also available for a variety of periods that extend from ancient times all the way up to the far flung future. Naval, air, ground and space are the more standard catagories, though many offer a mixture of forces. Hope that helps.

  • @giantlobsterboy644

    @giantlobsterboy644

    6 жыл бұрын

    Oh no. For a scale creep like myself 4 6mm tanks on a table would be scale bliss. 38.74" would be roughly 300 meters at 6mm (given that 6mm is 6 feet). A 1000 meters would be 11" distance on the table. I believe most tank engagements were at max 1000 meters (Higher velocity guns probably had longer ranges). It's easier to make more realistic looking terrain on a smaller scale. It would be awesome. It would be even more hardcore to do 3mm tanks. Just half those 6mm distances. At that scale you would get a somewhat "true" sighting effect if you played around with your phone to spot enemy tanks, etc. 3mm would also cost about 10$ American for the models. If the terrain was done correctly it would be glorious ScaleCreep joy.

  • @giantlobsterboy644

    @giantlobsterboy644

    6 жыл бұрын

    That s 11' distance and not 11". 28mm would contract scales and give distorted ranges. That is unless you used a basketball court. 300mm at 28mm would be 15.35 feet apart. If using 28mm on a 6x4 there shouldn't be measurements for range (except pistols or flamers). Making range a factor at 28mm is only for balancing tournament play. A 28mm M1A1 can engage enemies out to 4000 meters (give or take....on a good day). A mile is 5280 feet / 1609 meters / 80.8 feet at 28mm Drum roll = 4000 meters in scale at 28mm is around 240 feet from shooter to target. 28mm is only believable for skirmish games.

  • @giantlobsterboy644

    @giantlobsterboy644

    6 жыл бұрын

    You just had to mention scale... In my defense I try not to talk about it except to mention 300m being around 15.5 feet at 28mm. It would be really cool to play a 28mm tank game on a football field. You would have to use binos to sight the enemy tank... just like real tank commanders. Dice rolls would be communicated by walkie-talkies. There's a reason behind everything.
