    It appears that just like Among Us the cultist has a really easy time murdering everyone so you're either executing him or losing and doing tasks is useless.

    The cultist has an easy time murdering everyone because nobody is being as careful as they should be about mingling with other players. If everyone made a point of not entering spaces where other people are alone and was more aggressive about sussing people who did, the cultist would have a much harder time of it. Though it's also awkward that if the cultist is luckily one of the last two players on Round 1, he gets an autokill.

    in that sense, its more akin to Among Us. Since out of all the games I won as a Crewmate, 9 out of 10 times was with the imposters getting voted out (5 short, 2 long, 2 common tasks, the average lobby). In order to earn a task victory, something has to go wrong on the side of the imps. Since there is always that one player who takes 5 minutes to do a singular task.

    I wonder if houseruling that mingling uses Thing-esque rules of "Give out two death cards, if you're a cultist then one is good and one is death, if good both are good, mingler takes one of them" meaning that any attempted kill is only 50/50 would help alleviate that?

  • @LifeUntilLove

    @LifeUntilLove

    Жыл бұрын

    Having the books being pointless makes sense with the Among Us inspiration. My issue is having the game start with the cultist job 1/4 or 1/2 done for them already. No one should start dead, which would probably eliminate the need for a seer. The exchanging when you have left alone due to turn order also really stinks since it forces a mingle in the first round. It is notable that they added that to Among Us and made it worse for it.

    i think a lot of people are missing the point of having the alternative win condition with the task. The point of it isn't rlly to get the win through that means, it is more so used as a way to stop the imposter from stalling the game. If there was no alternate win con, then the cultist could just kill once every 10 turns and make it basically impossible to figure out who the cultist is, or even never kill, making the game pure guess work on voting. the game can literally be endless without an alternate win con for the investigators

    This game really feels like it has far too much going on. Not beyond saving with a solid set of house rules though. Most of the best games have the least going on so I'd strip a lot out to simplify and speed things along. As we saw in this, even they got confused with the rules at times and took 2 hours to do 5 rounds. So my house rule version would be: 1. After you move, perform your action immediately. 2. No events 3. No sabotage or book cards 4. No route cards 5. All rooms start with their max amount of books. 6. Rooms must be investigated once before you can start searching 7. There is only 1 dead player at the start of the game 8. All coloured rooms are connected 9. The last 2 players remaining in the starting room of the first turn are not forced an encounter 10. No Seer Below I explain my reasoning behind these but I did think of a fun twist while writing it to give the book and sabotage cards some use - but I don't know how many come with the game so may or may not be viable. Because the idea is, everyone gains a hand of shuffled cards containing mostly books and a single hand's worth of sabotage cards and, upon mingling, if you are not a cultist you must hand a sabotage card to your opponent if you have one, facedown (The cultist can choose to give a sabotage card or a book card). Then give the cultist an alternative win condition of "ultimate sabotage" having a full hand of sabotage cards. Given the cards aren't marked sabotage you could even rename the whole thing to good books and forbidden books and the win condition would be completing the big ritual (you know, give some thematic reason for them actually being a cultist instead of just a random murderer...) 1. The whole "move phase", "action phase" - make them one phase where you move and perform an action at the same time, because as far as I can tell, it's completely unnecessary to split them up and just slows things down. (even if you decide to kept the sabotage card mechanic) 2. Events, unless there's far more interesting ones in there, throw them out (we only saw 3 unique in 2 hours and a mention of a 4th) 3. Throw out the hallway cards and by extension all the sabotage cards. Because - The sabotage mechanic is clunky at best, throw it all out. (I have to assume there's some actually significant sabotage effects after the 3 cultist tokens are dealt with but a game's never going to go that long and the mini cultists are just arbitrary skip your turn crap, same with the power outage event and the game's already too slow) 4. Throw out the route cards, you already have three mechanics to encourage moving: the forced move, other players and once a room is cleared it's done. This bad mechanic caused pointless turns and suicidal play. 5. Since sabotage is out, players don't have to clutter their hands with those so we may as well get rid of books as well , set all rooms to their max books (if this makes the game too fast just slow it down by adding no effect sabotage cards to the piles) 6. But have the tick token gate the room initially so you spend a turn "examining the room" before finding books, that would mean the game would end in 5 rounds, 2 more than any of these games went to. 7. The starting dead - "necessary to avoid the cultist being instantly ousted", but why can it be 1 or 2 death cards, how does RNG making it easier for the cultist help anyone? Make it a guaranteed 1. (although it could be argued you should be handing out more life cards and not instantly trying to murder everyone, but majority don't want to play a long game) 8. Have that secret hallways event active constantly because the game really needs more movement options. 9. The last 2 in the starting room should not be forced an encounter, obviously. 10. The seer's a neat idea but giving the cultist a 1 in 5 chance of winning when they lose stinks, you could be obscenely aggressive, get caught immediately but still win on a guess.

Reasoning out loud in a game where a Seer type exists is a great save for them, since it gives off the vibes that you're just trying to educate other players into the correct line of thinking since you're frustrated they're not getting it right. This game is a great idea, but seems badly executed. The amount of randomness is insane, considering that cultist may get an early free kill AND start already with 2 Bruce Willis points.

    It lost fluidity , most of the game was Adam having to explain the rules and what people could do , so it was stop start and I lost track , not the best game for me to watch tbh

    Also, how do you complete it by collecting all books? I don't think that's ever going to happen in a normal game, so that mechanic just looks a bit pointless too.

  • @TheFinalChapters

    The poor execution was by the players, not the game. Nothing's forcing players to go to a room they can do an action in *every* turn. It's much more important to pair with others, check each other often, and limit the number of *unique* people you encounter as much as possible. Meanwhile in both games, team good was just blindly going around opening books, giving the cultist basically a free pass to just kill whoever they run into. Imagine playing Among Us, but everyone is so focused on their tasks that they just ignore dead bodies. The outcome is clear!

    Maybe I'm too monkeybrained, but I just don't see this game ever extending into much of the book collecting phase. It's just far too easy for the cultist to pass out whatever Dead cards they have to their respective victims to match exactly the amount of their objective and win the game. Maybe it would be more interesting if they had one less than whatever their objective needs to force the investigators to call a vote and kill one of their own, or start a BS vote on their own.

  • @schrodingerskatze4308

    Or they have to collect the cards somehow first. I also think it should be much faster to find the books, or the requirement should be lower.

  • @TheFinalChapters

    The cultist had an easy time passing out dead cards because the good team played like an ostrich with its head in the ground. If players actually check each other and avoid encounters like the plague, it's much harder for the cultist to actually kill anyone without getting immediately caught.

    Don't worry, in 300+ prototype games we saw over 130 book-point wins for the Investigators. If the players are on guard, it isn't easy for a Cultist to kill and points are becoming easier :)

  • @TheFinalChapters

    @TheFinalChapters

    There was plenty of room to avoid mingling... as long as you accept that you're not going to get to do an activity every turn. Also, the buddy system works great, constantly checking each other, just like Among Us.
