Great work, I did this "mod" once too, but I've connected the input of the buck converter straight to 19V, desoldered a 100k resistor near the ceramic input capacitor which is connected between input and Enable pin of the IC and soldered a 100k resistor between 5V rail on the motherboard and the Enable pin of the converter. That way the 5V power supply can't be overloaded as It is only Enabling the converter, not actually powering it.

Hello Sorin, I wanted to say a personal thank you for all the content you upload and the time you take to break things down into understandable parts. At the weekend I fixed the kids old Amazon Fire 7 tablet we had that had broken after my father had already changed the charge port. As it was already broken so I had nothing to lose and with the confidence I have gained watching your work flow videos I successfully bought it back from the dead with a quick reflow of the connector. Thanks again, hope you feel better soon.

Thanks so much for your vids! Really it is so greate to see the way like eastern guys would do, like me to (eastern german) 🤣... You simply understand how things work / should work. I simply watched yesterday my whole working day your vids (also lenovo) but... Not every lenovo is done like this! 😁... I do have one here and just the fuse is gone as well as the first mosfet, i tried it your way with 19v on the other side and it simply start working. I really try to understand what you are doing and why, not only doing same things without any clou. So big big thanks for your vids!!! And by the way get better soon! ☺️

I am in the process of searching for my first laptop. I wish to use it for work conduction heating cooling energy graphs, account records and simple billing info that may be downloaded to desktop software. Since you see and reapir many makes and models, Can you please provide some insight towards what you may call a reliable unit. Much appreciated.

Sorin did excellent on this one and even the chip might have cost more and flaked out again. So with those outlets it seems it will not freeze up. Good one! I think you should freeze this bodge into place with hot glue.

Great repair! Maybe you can now get more CPU information and read the voltages from the BIOS or CPU-Z and figure out, what voltage there should be... i think it's 0.8V It's running now but could be the Voltage is still too high... you said yourself it's on the top limit of running or not.... i'd lower it to find the lower limit, THEN bring it to the middle.

nice fix. I might suggest starting at a lower voltage initially on an unknown power rail as higher voltages can obviously kill it (and killing the PCH is likely to make the laptop not worth repairing), but a lower voltage should be fine and just will cause things to not work properly at that voltage, then you can just raise it until things are working as expected

the end 10 mins explanation is very important for those who have only partially understood what was done .. in the whole video .. listen carefully .. he is a very good teacher ... thank you sir .. Sorin .. i started with a computer hardware business in 1994 (yes i am ancient 😊) .. since then we have moved on to software .. and then to technology (we have our own machines etc ).. but i got interested in your videos .. and now have watched a lot of them ... and just for fun ... i got hold of 2-3 laptops from my office which were not working .. during the lockdown .. ive already started 2 by removing shorted capacitors .. the third too has started. it is giving me the power light .. but its screen is physicaly damaged .. i have to check it on a hdmi monitor it was great fun learning .. and .. applying what you teach ... thank you once again from India
