I was just gifted an oooooold Pelican Castaway kayak. All of the straps were dry rotted out and there were parts missing and weird random drill holes. I made it a project! I filled the holes, replaced all of the broken J-hooks, installed an anchor trolley, put in taco clip paddle holder, and got a new elastic strap for over the back well. My proudest renovation was finding nylon dog collars with plastic snap clips for $5 each. I cut the straps to size, and riveted them in to replace the old rotten straps that went over the front hatch cover. They fit perfectly, work well, and look great! I can't afford a new kayak right now, so renovating this old one got me on the water and gave that old boat new life! Thanks for your video. Not only am I glad to see you resurrecting old kayaks, but the plastic melting trick I hadn't thought of. Nicely done. Good tip!

shoe goo is the same as marine goo. It is very good but costs less. Just thought you might want to know. Thanks for making all the great videos! Love seeing these rigging and refitting videos!

I like it. If you own a kayak you will eventually do some repairs. Very helpful. I never thought of using zip ties. I once used a lid to a heavy duty wet wipes bucket and it worked great. I have also found that JB Weld works even better. Thanks.

Phil, Put an ad on Craigslist and or market place saying you'll go pick up broken, unwanted, unused kayaks... I did that and now I have 12 in my inventory from little kid kayaks all the way up to sea touring kayaks worth thousands for pennies on the dollar. I bought a $1400 HOBIE Kona for $150! Restored it and I'm selling it for $900 OBO. Bought an $1800 Hurricane Phoenix 160 Sea kayak for $250... Repaired it in one day.

TY TY TY.... You fix plastic with plastic... Don't goop up your kayaks with silicone. Look for tossed out little tykes toys. They come in all colors and are made of the same plastic as kayaks... Just cut off chunks and use a wood burning kit or soldering iron to patch the holes. Check out a couple of my restoration videos. It's really easy once you start repairing kayaks
