Thank you Miss Amy for such a down right good "Southern" baking video! Granny always made her biscuits using Crisco also. I wish I would have paid more attention to Granny's cooking when I was just a chap. I'm so glad to learn from you and others like yourself. I appreciate your time and effort.

Omg! I can't wait to try to make these biscuits. I may let my buttermilk sit out a little bit because i don't like cold stuff. My granny made biscuits like this but she used lard. I was too little to make them and learn how. She always had a big metal wash pan full of flour in her cabinet and she would pull it out every morning and make biscuits in this pan for her 13 children. All her babies were born at home with no painkillers. She was a strong woman!

I made Brenda’s biscuits and they were great, having a little trouble with smaller pieces of wet dough being left in the bowl. Practice makes perfect. The taste and texture were perfect. That’s all I was after. Those frozen wal mart biscuits are history!

There will always be those wet pieces, no worries! I let them dry and then before using the left over flour for the next batch, I use my flour sifter to get those little pieces out!

Tried twice and both times I had to sift the whole bowl of flour to get all the crumbles out! I will try again after watching her slo mo tutorial

@@lewis5js you are going to have those pieces for a while, I came to realize Brenda makes biscuits everyday for her guest and company and at that rate she has and is getting plenty of practice, she can probably make biscuits in her sleep, anyway I modified the procedure because we do not make biscuits everyday and it was just a challenge for me to get the biscuits right. I use two cups of white Lilly self rising flour a hen egg size of crisco shorting, cut it in the flour and enough butter milk to get it wet. They come out very close to Brenda’s bowl method. If you make biscuits everyday keep practicing and hold back as much as possible on the liquid and add a little along, that was one of my problems adding to much liquid at the start. Good luck!

Frozen biscuit dough to bake is great especially if you only need 2 or 4 for breakfast, time saving in a pinch, no ingredients to use before expiration, and no mess. I first heard of frozen biscuits years ago on an episode of “Oprah’s Favorite Things.” And Oprah had a private Chief in her home.

I am 74 . My mom made biscuits this way. We had a dedicated wooden bowl that the flour was left in. The only difference from this is we used a round cast iron skillet, we didn't know what a biscuit cutter was so we rolled them by hand like you would a yeast roll, and if we had bacon grease we put a dollop on each biscuits before baking. If we did not have bacon drippings a dollop of the shortening was placed on each one. My mom was not a great cook but her biscuits were yum. I am your neighbor as I live in CenLa..I enjoy your cooking videos. I make your teacakes and going to try the dumplings soon.

Amy I was taught to make biscuits like this when I was a girl. When I grew up I learned I could mix the biscuit dough with a spoon, pour it into the flour hole & pull the flour in until dough was firm enough to pinch off the biscuits & roll them into shape. Now I use a biscuit cutter. That milk is cold to the hand for sure on a cold winter morning. There is a much easier way & they taste as good of better. You did it Amy. Now you can move on to Amy's way.

The biscuit cutter tin Ms Brenda uses is from a Chef Bouyardee , I know I hammered the spelling of that, sauce can they kept from one of pizza making boxes it used to come in. That’s why it is special 😁,

Hey beautiful Amy. I was taught to make biscuits this way when I was a girl. When I grew up i learned to mix flour, shortening & buttermilk & dump that into my flour nest, then roll out my biscuits. Now that I am much older, I have learned to mix with a blending fork & roll out onto floured surface & cut those biscuits with a biscuit cutter. Yes that cold buttermilk will freeze your hands. I still remember how cold it was many years ago.

My biggest problem when I first tried making Brenda's biscuits - I could have pulled the whole darn bowl of flour into the mix. So practice and a small hack that kept me from going overboard: I started using a simple BHG serving bowl from our local box store. it holds about 3 cups of flour, and that kept me from overdoing. lol. I do use butter instead of shortening (except for greasing pans0 simply because of the eating plan I follow. I'm stco grateful that I can watch you both and learn something new each week. Thank you!

Hey Amy, I was just as giddy and excited as you the first time I made Ms Brenda's biscuits!😂 Mine get better & better with every pan I make. They're so yummy. And you're right. That mix is shocking it's so cold!!🤣🤯

I sent my Daughter BG's biscuit video. She bought me her cookbook for Christmas. Now she's found the big pottery bowl and even found the White Lilly SR flour. I had been making them the traditional way and would rise up perfectly. The 1st batch didn't rise, so i thought I'd try themwith buttermilk, same thing, I remembered Paula Deen saying she'd bought SF flour that wasn't, she said she added 2 tsp baking powder and it fixed them!!! I felt bad for my Daughter, because she had searched several stores in North Texas to find it. I think I'll stick with Shawnee's products here in Oklahoma 😊

Well hello this is Elaine in Norco, Calif looking at your video for the 1st time. You are very entertaining funny and beautiful! Wow you do a great Brenda Gantt impersonation, but not intentionally. Your biscuits look so delicious & yummy. You're inspiring me to think I can make your biscuits but I must tell you I make White Lily self-rising Buttermilk Cornbread. I can't find whole Buttermilk in my area so I use reduced fat buttermilk and it's delicious too. Thanks so much for sharing God's many blessings for you and your loved ones. Take care.

Hello Ms Amy. I don't think Ms Brenda leaves her buttermilk out. I think room temperature buttermilk would probably melt the crisco. Ya think? I make biscuits. But I've never tackled Ms Brenda's. I would have a mushy mess I think. It makes me nervous too. Lol. But hun. You did a wonderful job than I wud. GOD BLESS US ALL SWEETHEART.

We truly are neighbors. We live so far north in Louisiana that Arkansas is just a hop, skip and a jump from us! Please do make them. I told myself if I messed up no biggy. Just some flour and buttermilk. Not the end of the world. I watched my grandmother making those when I was really little. I never tried to learn and once I got older she had stopped making them. So glad Brenda shared it with us.
