Freaking amazing video, man. It was so helpful to follow someone talk through what they're doing. Plus it's a relaxing experience that can take 25+ minutes, ya know? We don't wanna be rushed as tinkerers so your longer video tutorial is quite refreshing
That's gameboy color color and that Pokemon Crystal combo hits all the nostalgia 🤩 I need asap!
thank you this was usefull I installed a different mod kit but still used this as a guide. also nice tip on the flush cutters and trimming down the pins.
yo i bought this kit a lot time ago and forgot about it. This vidoe was a life saver thank you!
i got my great grandmothers Gameboy color and she lived in Louisiana and she passed away in 2017 and when I opened it for the fist time it had a lot of little bugs stuck in side like little cockroaches and other bugs I thought about putting a backlight in it and I kwon that she would be proud of me if I did that and when she passed away we had her laptop and it had her password locked so I removed the password and put a new password I have specials needs and I kwon how to work on stuff like electronics

Great vid!
Awesome!!
Did u have any problem with the d pad after trimming the shell?
Nice mod it looks great
Thank you
Can I ask someone's advice please? I've got my replacement screen working perfectly but I cannot align the screen properly? What's the best method to align it perfectly?

Maybe try adding thin foam strips on the side where you put the screen in. Might fix iy

@@punky797 Thanks man! I did it as best as possible with free hand in the end and it came out really well :)
Make sure to trim the D-pad rubber pad or the up direction will be unresponsive.
Thanks
Where did you get your ips screen and how expensive are they bud?
After watching this I have confirmed i would rather buy one already modded 🤣
Gbc and gba and games especially pkmn crystal are still the best unlike n3ds games. Nice Video.
You needed more heat on the touch sensor. I'm willing to bet that if you hold the cable and the touch sensor and pull a little, the wire would become loose. Not a huge issue though. Any time you're soldering to a (relatively) large piece of metal, try to visualize the heat being sucked away because that's basically what's happening. And see those silicon mats ? If you have one you don't use anymore, cut a square of that and use it to solder over. You don't want to burn your desk.

@@MattPassarelli I have subscribed to you so I could point out everything wrong with you in the future ;) I'm kidding, don't worry
I have another question, is it save to trim all those little metal dots down? Doesn’t it ruin something?

It shouldn't, so long as the cuts are sharp and flush. I do it in the video. You're just trying to take off the pointed tips from the pins underneath. Just stay above the point where the solder touches the board and it should be fine.
MY screen does not power on but my gameboy does. I actually just bought two and niether both are black. Any ideas?

same. some websites say replace a capacitor but most people here don't have that problem. the new IPS screen did turn on for a bit but now it does not. it has power as it lights up a bit but remains black while sound comes through. the old screen still works though. i dont know
Why this video doesn't blow up, this is insane!!
Now you’ve had it a while how long do the batteries last?

You could also get a usb power cord for your Game Boy.
Very cool nice slow
Do you have to solder anything? I don't have any thing like that.

I don't believe so; not for this kit. The only soldering I had to do was for the light adjustment that I broke by accident Small edit: I actually double checked the kit I linked to (the one I used), it seems that it isn't sold anymore. The retailer, Handheld Legend still has plenty of kits available, but soldering is required for those kits for backlight brightness adjustment. If you don't care about being able to adjust the backlight level, then no, no soldering is needed for it.
❤👍👍👍👍👍
I bought mine from here but it didn’t come with the sensor and when I tried installing it the screen didn’t even turn on feeling kinda ripped off tbh

Strange. Sounds like a defective part. It’s email their customer service and let them know. Maybe they can replace the parts for you.
Does the little metal plate ever interfere with the ir sensor?
@DanteDoesThings

@@MattPassarelli so say you sand paper a place next to the ir sensor could you place it there and still have it work? Also does the brightness wheel do anything?
Biggest win on this kit? No soldering!

Where did you get the screen from?

Came from a site called Handheld legend. I put a link to it in the description if you need it.

What is the name of the screen?
You need to fir too much in too small of a space. I would wait a year or two for a smaller version to come out.
So many simple mistakes that can be made
