It’s good to see some love for Rowland out there. When I was younger & had just moved to the city I couldn’t believe I could see this towering giant of Aus music in little bars with a small but dedicated fan base.

@@jessvex Yeah I feel very lucky to have been able to have seen him quite a few times. In the 90’s it was the same with being able to see people like Spencer P Jones, Ed Kuepper, Conway Savage & more in little bars & clubs. People who were mythical to me when I was a teenager in a country town. I was so green I had no idea that you could just go see ‘em so easily in city 😂

I really think I could listen to this album until time ends and leaves me behind, lol. just really incredible stuff.... I remember listening to pop crimes first, and then one or two songs off of teenage snuff film- then I stopped listening because I knew I found something good and didn't want to run out so fast! Like special occasion wine, i guess.... very magical music!

I agree with everything you say. We have to savour everything we got from Rowland. Sadly he only released the two solo albums that were 10 years apart. Just by coincidence I saw Nick Cave last night & he played Shivers. Said some nice words about Rowland. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen every tour since the Henry’s Dream tour, including solo shows, Grinderman, a soundtrack show with the MSO & Q&As. I saw Rowland play it a tonne of times bit I’ve never seen Nick play Shivers. It was special.

There is also a doco just about Rowland from a few years back called Autoluminescent which is pretty great.

Thanks Jt. He’s one of my absolute favourites. I’m very biased of course but I think everything he’s done is top shelf. It’s hard to argue with I think when he’s been a major player in the Birthday Party, Crime & The City Solution, These Immortal Souls & of course his brilliant solo albums. Ed is also incredibly consistent imho, but he has sooo much output not only with The Saints, but his solo stuff, Laughing Clowns & the Aints. @@newday8545 I think I first got into Nick Cave & as you do I backtracked & discovered the Birthday Party. I was immediately struck by the guitar playing & had to know more about the bloke making these incredible sounds. It was around then that I found out that guy was Rowland & he had a band called These Immortal Souls. I was lucky enough to see them a few times in the very early 90’s & I’ve followed Rowland ever since. I have seen him solo or with his band many times mainly in smaller venues or a support slot for Cave or the Beasts. I also got the Crime & City Solution albums he played & his collaborations with Niki Sudden & Lydia Lunch once I found out more about his discography. Him & Ed Kuepper are my two favourite guitarists of all time & Rowlands way with lyrics really strikes a chord with me. I agree his covers are amazing & in my mind they are then his songs. I also love his version of He Cried which he called She Cried. Those girl group songs are dark. It’s so cool to hear that someone else holds the great man in such high esteem as me. I wish he was still with us because it seemed like he was ready to make up for lost time when he released Pop Crimes. I thought now he’s in a more positive place we’re going to get so much more amazing music from him, but sadly that wasn’t the case. Thanks so much for your great comments…Ben

@@benrankins4446 The first time i heard I know A Girl Called Johnny it blew my mind and i fell for Jonine Standish's voice and secretly had a crush lol. What a beautiful woman, gosh. Ive heard of HTRK but never really dug through their tunes but it led me to her solo material. I love the song Scorpio Rises Again. For me the Rowland Journey was in reverse which later led me to The Birthday Party. Theres a vid of Junkyard live thats mental. All of them are in their own dimension on stage. My favorite is when the song peaks and the bass player hits the floor and starts humping the air as Rowland stumbles around with his cigarette. He cried is soo good and yes another great cover. I have a friend who created the Documentary Gang Of Souls featuring Lydia Lunch. I always asked her to introduce me. I have so many questions but that would probably make her mad lmao. I was just listening to Shotgun Wedding the other day. Their cover of Led Zeppelins In My Time Of Dying is awesome. I dont even know how many times ive listened to their version of Some Velvet Morning and the punk edge they gave it. Im a New Yorker from lower Manhattan and love going for walks listening to these classics. The Nicky Sudden collabs i havent listened to as much. Hungry Ghosts is good too. Its so great how Sonic Youth supported Rowland and had him open for them. Agreed and only can imaging what wouldve proceeded Pop Crimes.
