My sister and I had an estate sale this past summer for our parents' whole house full of stuff. We really enjoyed meeting the people who will (hopefully) be treasuring the items and a lot of people told us stories about how the vintage items reminded them of their mom or something in their childhood. It was a MUCH better experience than I expected. ❤❤❤

Hi Kathleen!!! I'm happy to see KZreadr Leena Norms being recommended by other friends here. She's super fun, especially the "positive panic with leena" series. For books I love the Lockwood and Co. Series (ghost fighting at its best!) by Jonathan Stroud. I've never been to an estate sale but I'd love to see one with cool, wearable, yet unique clothes and fun accessories, whoo hoo! I love the drawing today, so relaxing and inspiring to try new mediums. I teach an Art Club at my elementary school so I'm surrounded by kids willingness to try new things and I think that makes the world a better place.

I love Rachel Maksy (vintage clothing collector, thrift shopping, and she sews clothing and creates cosplay items!), Bernadette Banner (fashion historian, specializing in the Edwardian period, who sews and had some comfy workroom vlogs), Morgan Donner (sewer/maker who loves Italian 16th century fashion), Karolina Zebrowska (Polish sewer who loves 1930s fashion and memes), Safiya Nygaard (originally of Buzzfeed fame, she tries ridiculous fashion trends, as well as making things! Example: she combined every Bath & Body Works candle into one "Franken-candle"), and Shelby Sherritt (an Australian potter who bought a Lot of 100 mystery pottery molds and made videos showcasing each one).

I really can't recommend Ursula K. Le Guin enough, she has a few sort-of space books like The Dispossesed and The Left Hand of Darkness that are just great. I always recommend Maddie Dragsbaek whenever someone asks for a youtube rec. Amazingly edited and she has such a unique style and honest way of talking. Shes always just a breath of fresh air. Book series I recommend even though they're not like, the best piece of literature ever written is A Court of Thorns and Roses. First book is a bit of a slog but the rest of the series has some fun melodrama and world building within a fairy court setting. Thank you for these questions because i have also been in a rut for books and youtubers and now i can scroll through the comments and get some recs!!

I work at a retirement home which has a thrift store in the basement. It’s open twice a week and those are my favorite days! Sometimes the thrift store will host apartment sales if they have a large quantity of items that won’t fit in the actual thrift store. If someone has passed or has to downsize. Recently someone had a legit estate sale and a third party came in and priced everything. So that was my first “official” one. The lady that had passed was an artist. Her apartment was so beautiful and she had a lot of art supplies. I ended up getting a cat water color (I’m not sure if she painted it or someone else). I am a cat owner/lover so I hung it up in my office. 😻 As for KZread channels I really enjoy Alex Micheal Mae. She mainly does fashion continent. She highlights brands that are more size inclusive. I also really enjoy Carrie Dayton. She is also a body positive creator and has a seperate volg channel where she tries things seem on tik tok and day in the life content.

Very much a fan of Jarvis! His buddies Eddy Burback, Danny Gonzales, Drew Gooden, and Kurtis Conner are also delightful goobers. When it comes to creatives, Shannon Makes is my favorite channel. Bonus that it always inspires and motivates me to finish the projects I have piling up...and it is not a small pile. I'm not seeing her mentioned in the comments so I will share this one as a comfort KZreadr to watch: The Unexpected Gypsy! Wendy is a lovely artist with such a soothing voice. She lives in England, has her own studio, and shares her poetry, travels, and day to day life. I found her during the pandemic and she is so comforting, sweet, kind, and calming to watch. She also has a Patreon for extra art content! I've also enjoyed watching older women like her lately, as someone in my thirties, I think it's valuable to hear from more mature women on life and their experiences!

You may have already read this, but Annihilation is a great creepy, eerie, slow-burn scifi. The other two books in the trilogy are good, but I think Annihilation is good as a standalone. If you want a really goofy, over-the-too scifi that pokes fun at capitalism in a hyper-neon semi-dystopian future, Snow Crash is a ridiculous and fun read. I can't tell if it's good, but it's iconic.

Other creators on my 2023 Sleep playlist: Ahoy, Power Pak, Sarah Spaceman, Mother's Basement, Backseat Streams, Studson Studio, Safiya Nygard, and that 10 hour long DougDoug stream where he coerced an AI bot through a Pajama Sam game (or the 2 hour edited version tbh).

Megan Rhiannon is a wonderful autistic creator who always makes cozy content about journaling and other special interests! Katherine Karas is an indigenous KZreadr living in New York who makes cozy bookish content and I love love love her vibes! As for other KZreadrs, if you’re ever in the mood to learn more about weird stuff (not necessarily scary things) I recommend Izzzyzzz and hazel, they both make long-form video essays about obscure internet and anime culture stuff and I just love everything they make! For book recommendations I think you would like Shirley Jackson’s collection of short stories called “Dark Tales” and Thomas Ligotti’s collection called “Songs of a Dead Dreamer and Grimscribe”. Spooky!

I haven't read many horror books, but I did recently read Bunny by Mona Awad and really liked it (so much so that I want to reread + annotate it because I didn't do that the first time) it's compared to Jennifer's Body and Heathers so maybe it's more of a dark comedy but there's plenty of creepy and mysterious events. For sci-fi, I always recommend The Man Who Fell to Earth by Walter Tevis :)

Comfort youtuber is definitely etelan. She makes GORGEOUS dolls and her voice is so soothing! Edit: Also, if you've been into horror short stories with a bit more hope at the end (lol), I recently read a short story collection by Stephen King called 'If It Bleeds'. I know Stephen King is thought of as being really horrifying and gritty but these were just awesome (still horror but not egregious) stories that were built off of amazing concepts and were very cool to read. Very human experience-ey. I still think about them all the time.

Honestly I have been hyperfixating on your videos lately because it’s incredibly cozy and your tone is so comforting, perfect for being sick for three weeks and having creative itch energy. I currently have been bingeing Seanan McGuire’s October Daye series. It’s mystery fantasy with the fae world based in San Francisco and I love all her stuff anyway. She’s great at world building. And the main character isn’t a teenager, which is nice. My ideal estate sale right now would be a seamstress. I find a lot of sewing stuff at estate sales but rarely come across someone’s fabric stash. I am on a sewing kick lately, and was working on a dress while watching this video!

Scandinavian follower here 👋 Love your videos and your entire esthethic! Your house is so magical and i am waiting patiently for the housetour. There are so many great youtubers but i think i will recommend a few more local to me which is: Elise Buch - if you like vintage, cozy gardening vlogs and home decorating. Elise is the perfect example af what danish hygge (coziness) is all about ✨ Laura Kampf - german inventor/carpenter/house renovator that has the best vibe with the people around her. She splits her time between renovating an old house in germany and the other half starting from scratch in LA. It is so fun to follow along her adventures 🙌 As soon as you mentioned horror book recs i immediate thought of House of Leaves! That book is terrifying and i love it. I also think you will appreciate the coukyness(?) Of the way the book is presented visually. It is a page and literal book turner 📖🔁

I just read "The Road" by Cormac Mccarthy. I like his writing a lot, and I can be really harsh when it comes to writing too. He doesn't put quotes in quotations, which is weird, but it was still easy to understand. It's a post apocalypse story about a father and son trying to survive in a sort of nuclear winter where plant life and animals have died. I'll have to give Project Hail Mary a try! I really liked the writing in the Martian. I think I'm going to read Carmilla next, cuz Sapphic vampires??? 👀....

My top 3 are Rachel Maksy, Mai Pham, and Elyse Myers. They all inspire me in different ways. Rachel inspires me to be creative and enjoy the little things. Mai inspires me to take care of myself and my space. She makes me feel so uplifted, like I can do anything if I really put my mind to it. And Elyse makes me feel seen. She makes me feel like I'm not as crazy as I feel sometimes. She inspires me to be kinder to myself. And I just found you Kathleen! Thats why I'm so late to the comment party. But I think you're working your way to be in the top too!

Other than BDG and Rachel Maksy which you both mentioned before ( though, can we really get enough of them? Such amazing creative creatures, my favorite kind😌), I've also been watching BlackBean CMS (talk about creativity, he inspires me so much, and is incredibly fun to watch! He just has that funky fun charm, love it!), Justinthetrees (just a lad appreciating trees in the funkiest ways, telling us their stories and occasionally baking), Tasting History with Max Miller (exactly what it says on the box, making historical recipes and sharing a bit of history, with the loveliest host! Seriously, I don't think I'm doing Max justice with this description, he's just too lovely), GOBELINS (listen, sometimes it's just ultra cool to see what the next generation of animators is working on, and they're always so creative, what a wild ride every single one of them) and lastly, this one's a new one for me, I was blessed by the algorithm and it brought me to Eoin Reardon (I did not think I can see that much enthusiasm in a person, but his energy alongside his woodworking is the perfect combination for making your day brighter, absolute diamond in the rough!). I hope I helped you with finding some new creators you can enjoy, and if not, we can just fangirl about the ones we know😁
