Let's Go Flying: Kern Valley to the Western Mojave Desert
Dan flies his Cessna Cardinal 177RG from Kern Valley Airport southeast to Red Rock Canyon and Antelope Valley to view superblooms and immense solar and wind power farms.
This film is of a wandering adventure of discovery into the beautiful and surprising western Mojave Desert in California. This early spring flight starts as a pursuit of wildflower blooms in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and nearby desert, but then meanders into a profusion of fascinating places - colorful badlands, ancient volcanic fields and incredibly large green power installations - much more than you might expect! Close approaches to terrain are enhanced with glorious QHD video. Geographic features are labeled for the pleasure of identifying points of interest and learning about the region.
Launching from Kern Valley Airport, we fly southeast toward the Scodie Mountains and then south to Jawbone Canyon and into the Mojave Desert. From there, we take a side trip over Red Rock Canyon State Park and Last Chance Canyon. Resuming our southbound heading, we quickly encounter the Honda Proving Center, the vast Springbok Solar Farms and the giant Mojave Wind Farm. We take another side trip to check out the bloom at the Antelope Valley California Poppy State Reserve and we encounter the even bigger Solar Star Solar Farms and the Antelope Valley Solar Ranch along the way. All of this is while flying over a verdant and flowering desert looking as you may have never imagined possible.
This is shot in glorious, multi-camera 2.7K HD, so be sure to use the highest resolution setting you can for your maximum enjoyment.

Exactly why I learned to fly! Back in the 70's when there were more flowers and fewer roads... Nice show.

Thanks!
Great video, Dan. I've always wanted to fly around that area (I'm not a pilot), and now it seems, I almost have. Great documentation of the habitat destruction caused by solar and wind farms.
Beautiful Views-n Narration! Sure it gets Windy-n Shakes when it Quakes, HOT in the summer, COLD in the winter, but Spring-n Fall make it all worth while! Thank You-Thank You-Thank You for Sharing!

Hi Dan. We just watched a few of your views and please fly over enchanted gorge Palisade ridge and Clarence King We love it!

I have flown around all those places in the past but was only shooting stills at the time, though I might be able to make a decent video from the photos. Clarence King is striking and looks a bit like the Matterhorn- but it's way in the backcountry where it's hard to get to.
Keep making videos! Recent subscriber and I love your description and labeling of areas as well as history and geological information. This helps me visualize areas I want to explore. Only critique is that the music with lyrics was a bit loud and distracting; I enjoyed acoustic songs more. Thank you for your work!

This time I wanted to bring in music that is closer to what I actually listen to in my headset while flying- what you're hearing is more like the real thing to me. I wish I could use the actual soundtrack - it's captured in the cabin video - but I'm just not free to use it here. Thanks for watching!
Hi Dan , do you offer any charters I would love to fly over the sierras
