Let's do some more Gelli Printing ⭐ Create vibrant and grungy Collage Papers in your Art Journals

Recently I shared a video where I printed pages directly in some unused drawing sketchbooks. I had so much fun doing it that I ordered myself the same sketchbooks again in an A4 landscape format to make some bigger prints. I love how this keeps all the prints together. It is the perfect storage and the prints are presented in such a nice and inspiring way. Imagine flipping through a book filled with amazing papers. Today I'm sharing a full printing session where I make some kind of Autumn/ Halloween themed papers!

    Fabulous work. I've heard people that have major problems with the paper sticking is because they have picked up the wrong gel plate and it's a speedball plate that's meant purely for oil based inks..

    Ì find that very floppy papers (papers that split easily in it's core, as if there are 2 layers of paper that are not stuck together well; when wet they literally fall apart) stick and tear when gelliprinting. Conditioning the plate with oil helps a lot.

    Best paper for gelli prints is wet strength tissue (it's awesome and doesn't tear when wet) and tissue paper from old sewing patterns...again, it tends to be stronger than normal tissue paper.

    Great tip. Where do you get that?

  • @ellieknol

    Susanne, so by the way : have you tried printing with 2 gelplates? It saves a lot of paint as you don't roll off on paper but to a second gelliplate. Paint you take off of one gelplate (with a stamp or stencil/mask) you 'stamp' onto the second and vice versa. oops: you are doing that sometimes with black etc.. but not always, still using roll-off paper :) I mean that you use the same colors on both plates; roll off an orange for instance on both the plates .....

    Yes I do this often. I truely also sometimes like the brayered papers and as I said, I always work on both sides of the paper. Interesting tip with the oil. How does it work?

    Clean it with any oil (maybe add more oil with your fingers), let sit for awhile, and then clean with a dry kitchen roll paper. @@SusanneRose

    Why do you pull prints on both sides of a page if you plan to use them for collage fodder?

  • @SusanneRose

    @SusanneRose

    10 ай бұрын

    Why not? I can then pick what I like better. And I think it was in this video were I mentioned that it's useful when you do folding projects like envelopes, mini books or pockets. These show often something of the backside and then it's nice to have both sides printed. I also often use these papers on cards. It's similar to a design paper pad, both sides are printed. That saves paper and gives me more options.

    The pages could be used for the pages in a journal. It's what I've done, and I decorate them as in any journal.

    With everything in frame it would all be too small especially if someone is watching on a mobile device. Maybe I need an assisten or 2 more cameras LOL, question is who would pay this. These videos are 100% free that does not mean it doesn't need time and effort to make them.
