Let's Dance Sailing Story #66 - Elba Delivery Part 1

We make the difficult decision to have the new Let's Dance delivered to us in Turkey in these uncertain times. Tune in as our all girl crew tackle some nasty weather along the Atlantic Coast and Let's Dance is put to the test for the first time.

    The Helia 44 has been my dream boat but this baby seems to be up to a whole new level, that helm at night looks like a 747 coming into land at Honkers. The galley looks amazing and she's been blooded by those 4 amazing ladies ( and a bloke with a beard who keeps popping up, the cabin boy?) who are worth their weight in gold, must be absolutely freezing out there in 40+knts. How exciting for you, like moving from an apartment into the Point Piper penthouse, darlings.

We haven’t had a chance to put her through her paces yet but the girls certainly have and from the skippers report she was suitably impressed. Currently we are fitting some extras here in Turkey and decking her out like that apartment you speak of in prep for the summer, looking forward to bringing more of her to the channel as we go, cheers.

    Excellent video, thank you for sharing it. It's fantastic that an all woman crew is delivering it. My daughter is an Offshore Yachtmaster and we are very proud of her sailing skills so it is special to see more out there. I also appreciated that the sea conditions were in fact large compared to so many videos that claim heavy weather only to find 25 knots of wind. It was unusual to see the captain have the engines engaged in full forward when going near dead down wind. I haven't seen this before and wouldn't have thought to try it. What is the purpose? While 20 knots of speed surfing in that type of weather is very fast, if you add the full throttle speed of the engines it is much less surprising.

  • @LetsDanceSailing

    @LetsDanceSailing

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Sail P, thanks for your comment. We were very happy we went with the all girl crew, they did an amazing job in some very ordinary conditions and the boat arrived with only a few minor issues to be resolved. It’s nice to know there are women out there that take on the oceans of the world and do a great job of it, congrats to your daughter. In the clip you talk about with the Port side engine in full forward it is being used to control the angle of surf that the boat is being pushed down the face of the wave. In a cat with huge waves from behind you don’t want to be pushed straight down the wave front nor do you want to end up side on, with engines running you can throttle on and off to control that angle of decent. Hope that makes sense, thanks for your comment, cheers.

    @@LetsDanceSailing Thanks for the clarification with it only being the port motor. I've been in very large seas a few times and really just relied on my rudders to keep me on course but every captain and every boat has it's own ways. I do think there might be something to using the motor to increase the speed and longevity of the surf though and may try that sometime. Anyway, maybe we will cross paths sometime as we are heading to Greece hopefully in a few months.

    Wow, some awesome footage! Do they have their own channel? If not, they should. I would 100% watch that. Also, according to the internet, "production cats" can't cross oceans, and definitely can't do 20 kt! Let's Dance must not have gotten that memo! lol.

    🤣🤣🤣 on the memo comment, we are very happy with her performance throughout this passage and certainly plan to cross oceans with her. The girls come from all over the world and don’t have a YT channel, you can find them on FB and Insta and the skipper runs Sailing For Women, cheers.

    G'day guys, love you & your videos, have followed you for ages. So deffo NOT a troll, but I am curious - we've not left the house here for months (UK), so it's hard to understand how people get to go sailing? In the last vid, folks setting off on vacation (with dog), hugs all round, and the only masks here were the dudes in Portugal. Look, I know the UK have cocked this up worse than most, but it would be good to hear in the next vid about how you guys have swerved the worst of Covid, and how the boat delivery was even possible. Yep, I'm green with envy, but also curious! It's pretty hard to watch folk have their freedom, when we've lost ours - totally our fault, i know. But it'd be good to hear the Let's Dance experience of COVID. Keep up the great vids and tunes... great tunes! R

    Hi Kameleonline, good comment, you’ve caught us out. Up until this latest video we have been a season behind in editing, hence our previous vids were before Covid hit. We’ve spent Covid year laying low in Turkey catching up on our editing and to be honest if it wasn’t for Covid we probably would never have caught up to real time. Making these videos is just a hobby for us and it takes a full week to produce each one by the time we source music and check copyrights etc. We tend to take most of the footage during our travels in summer and put the videos together during winter when we have unlimited wifi, so we’re always behind to some degree - if not a lot! Let’s hope 2021 is kinder to everybody and Covid becomes a mere annoyance instead of a global disaster. It has certainly been hugely disruptive and we’ve had our fair share of lockdowns in Turkey, although not as strict as yours currently are in the UK. We’re locked down from 9pm Fridays to 5am Mondays here and have been since early Nov. Thanks for taking the time to comment and stay safe. Hope you can get out and about soon.

    @@LetsDanceSailing Thanks so much for taking the time to reply! Much appreciated. Makes total sense now... Can't wait to see the new boat. I really liked the Helia 44, so its going to be fascinating to see what the 45 is like. Yes, lets hope we all get the damn vaccine and can get back on the water, and into the pub! Keep up the hard yards on the editing - I know it's a chore, but we all really enjoy them! Cheers.

    It’s amazing to watch, they pretty much have to shut La Rochelle down in part to get these boats in. It happens so regularly the locals don’t even blink when one goes by, cheers.

    Is King Neptune ok with 2 consecutive boats having the same name? Do you have to throw your favourite T shirt overboard as an offering of appeasement?

    We had to go hard on the music in this one because the background noise was terrible. The footage was all shot by the delivery crew and they didn’t have the right equipment. We truly do take particularly care when choosing and leveling the music. Hopefully future episodes will be acceptable, cheers

    Hi John, thanks for your feedback. Must confess that our video productions are fairly unsophisticated using basic I Movie and, in this case, footage captured by the delivery skipper and crew without any external mics etc. We do our best with the vids but in the end it’s just a hobby for us. Our family and friends appreciate following our journey and it just happens that others have jumped on board our channel. Having said that, I’m off to google sound levelling using I Movie (which I’ve done previously in an effort to smooth a series of clips instead of each individual one) but haven’t yet found a way that works properly! Cheers,
