Hey, lore fiends! This one was tougher than I was expecting it to be. Let me know what I missed, or what you think of the lore of Bayonetta 1. BUT! Here's the problem: Bayonetta 2 is a Nintendo exclusive. I do not have any Nintendo consoles (I only have a PC), nor do I have a budget to purchase one right now. I WILL play Bayonetta 2 someday, so this video had to be done WITHOUT knowledge of what occurs in that game. Please try to make comments as SPOILER FREE as possible, as spoilers/foreshadowing really ruin the magic of these blind playthroughs. Also, as I generally make a point of not commenting on gameplay mechanics or character critiques, I wanna say it here: I adore and appreciate Bayonetta as a character. I mean... with the reveal of Bayonetta 3 as potentially another Nintendo Exclusive, *possibly not*, Bayonetta 2 is still an informative game that while it doesn't expand on Bayonetta's plotholes, it does expand on the aftermath of Bayonetta.

@@Devilcakes I’m pretty sure Bayo3 is also funded by Nintendo. Since Bayo appeared in Smash and Bayo2 was exclusive, Platinum claiming “if you want this somewhere else ask Nintendo, while you do that ask for Zelda on PS4”, I see Bayo as a Nintendo IP.

@@Cruznick06 Kind Of. While Bayonetta fleshes out the clans within its lore, Bayonetta 2 fleshes out the environment those clans take place in, at least from what I understand from Luka's notes.

Religious pastor father fights stripper daughter to the death on top of the Empire State Building . This is how someone described this game to me. I enjoyed this game so much!

It's so hard to imagine that Bayonetta was once a fearful little girl who lost the will to fight. Ever since the start of the game, she's always appeared so strong, confident, and sassy that I was always confused when Jeanne said "the fear is still not gone from your eyes". Bayonetta never appeared to fear anything. I wish we'll be able to see a snippet of Cereza's fears in the third game just to understand what she actually went through as a child.

I just gotta love a few things about the lipstick. 1: Bayonetta's pistols are perfectly gauged to accept the lipstick tube as a shell. 2: The lipstick is strong enough to not get visible rifling striations in it as well as punch into a person's skull. 3: It's so heat resistant that being fired out of a gun doesn't melt it, like, at all. Imagine the business that can create lipstick of this quality and density and how much a tube of it will REALLY cost.

@@UmbraWitch612 no it definitely was lipstick it was Rosa’s Lipstick 💄, you have to remember their witches and very cunning ones at that as much as they would love to shop for certain things I’m sure they have more then enough knowledge to make their own products without wary or confusion

That battle with Jubileus and Bayonetta was one of the most epic final battles I've played through, it was on the same level as the fights in Asura's Wrath, another game I wholeheartedly loved.

Fun Fact: The Spider Demon that Bayonetta summons is actually the same one from the first Devil May Cry game. Also Antonio Redgrave is also a reference to Dante's (Main character of DMC) former alias when he lived in the city of Redgrave, Tony Redgrave.

Outside the lore. A fun fact I learned and hope I am remembering correctly: Most of the main cast of the game wear glasses. All as a big middle finger to people who claimed glasses aren't cool and shouldn't do it. Well, proved them wrong. Glasses are cool and sexy.

Fun fact on top. The devs had to fight with the publisher to let Bayo keep her glasses. Fun fact²: the glasses thing came to be after Bayonetta was designed and they wanted to know what she'd look like with glasses just cause and they loved it. They integrated them ever since

I know the lore is supposedly just a set piece for the action. But this game helped me work out some big issues I had during my Catholic Highschool years.

There's one minor note I wanted to add, the red gem that was in Bayonetta's Umbra Watch has no relation to The Eyes of the World: the gem is just a barrier/sealing stone. The Eyes don't exist as objects, they exist as powers inherited by members of the Sages and Witches. The Eyes choose who to inhabit based upon the candidate's power and their ability/potential to affect history. The Eyes basically want to be in the hands of the people who will witness the greatest amount of key events in history, whether these individuals also cause these events is irrelevant all that matters is that they will be there to witness them.

Cool, I thought it was stupid at first that for no real reason, she was born to wield something that was never to be used and sealed away, but this explanation actually pulls the entire lore together for me. The fact that it's something that can't really be controlled or kept safe and has a mind of its own actually makes more sense. Honestly, I was about to drop it at the start because the very first thing they tell you she was born for seemed like an asspull to me.

This was VERY well done!!! Info, research, and the sass & tea 🍵 were all on point. I love it! This is, without a doubt, THE BEST Bayonetta Lore Exposition I’ve ever seen on KZread.

Man i remember seeing my uncle playing these types of games when i was a kid an i though they were so fucking cool 🤙🏾 Bayonetta, Devil may cry, Resident Evils all of em! Final Fantasy! I play as many as i can get now! 😅✌🏾 So glad my uncle was gamer back then. You should take a sniff at these games n shit. There is much to be appreciated.

The way you explained the lore of Bayonetta is both informative and entertaining which is not easy to pull off. Well you mentioned the shift in timeline and now we see our Cereza all grown up in the latest trailer, I just can't wait for Bayonetta 3 to come out. Thank you for making this video.

23:50 that whole cutscene of Bayonetta and her past self was so cute and hilarious.

It's both stupid and awesome that DMC and Bayonetta take place in the same universe. Hope sometime we will get a crossover game with the characters. Would love to see how the characters interact with each other and knowing how witty everyone is in both series, there's great potential for some shade-throwing conversations and kickass battle sequences.

A few errors: 1) The gem was a red herring, it is not the left eye at all. It has no significant purpose other than protecting Cereza. It is not the left eye and even Sapientia called it a worthless rock. Many speculate that the gem sealed Bayonetta away and Jeanne was able to convince the angels that she died to a blade and vanished. The gem is also powerful enough to break Jeanne’s brainwashing but its merely an Umbran jewel/relic. 2) Balder was not shot with a bullet. He was shot with Rosa’s/Bayonetta’s lipstick. Why? I have no clue. Makes no sense to me lol. 3) One crucial detail… Yes, the courage of Cereza is vital as it plays a role in awakening the left eye in Bayonetta’s timeline. So bringing her back in time when she is mentally strong will allow her to fight off the angels and prevent the resurrection without being sealed away. HOWEVER, you left out that the sealing ritual was stopped due to Cereza’s umbran watch. Because of the watch blocking the blade, Jeanne knew that Bayonetta was prepared to fight back. Other than that, VERY GOOD VIDEO!!! I subscribed and I hope you get the chance to play Bayo 2/3.

FUN FACT: Dante from DMC chose the alias "Tony Redgrave" out of respect to Antonio Redgrave, his favorite journalist.

I do have a little problem with the Bayonetta lore and it's that sometimes it doesn't stick with the already established lore or it doesn't fully explain some concepts, on top of that the animated movie changes a LOT of the lore so it mixes in my head, but you're explanation and narration makes it so much better!!

Idk if this is on purpose or not, but the part where Cheshire eye gets severed, the eye is BLUE! While the RED eye, remains. Very neat foreshadowing?

I'd just like to mention that during the part where Bayonetta fights sapientia, the whole fight takes place in just a few seconds.. she's sitting in the helicopter when they get up there..

This video was incredible. So well-explained, well-organised and thought-out. This must've taken you a long time to put together, and it truly does the first game justice. I love this story, and even though I know the whole thing off-by-heart, it was great to hear it explained fully, especially with how confusing and difficult the game can be to understand first time around

I hope that whenever you do get a Nintendo console, and play Bayonetta 2, you'll have just as much to say about it as you did this video. I have to say this, the Umbran Witches temporal control technique is called Witch Time, not Witch Walk. Witch Walk is what lets them walk on walls and ceilings. The law about light and dark was broken nearly 600 years ago, Bayonetta was nearly 100 years old when Jeanne sealed her away, and she was sealed for 500 years. Bayonetta was born December 19, 1411, and the witch hunts started in 1509. She'd be about 98 when they started, and 598 near the start of the game. She woke up twenty years before the game started though.

Bayonetta is a masterpiece that meshes together the fanservice we needed and DMC style fighting. 👌

Bayonetta 3 is basically Balder's plan going on, that's Cereza at her full potential, probably fighting those beings of Jubileus

Saw the pinned comment but…..find yourself some kind of access to a Wii U or a switch, cuz Bayonetta 2 actually clears up and explains and adds context to EVERYTHING covered in bayonetta 1 to the point that it completely changes how some things play out.

Loved the video! I thought Bayonetta's outfit was made entirely out of her hair? Maybe there is some leather incorporated because a lot of the texture wouldn't make sense otherwise.

All of the black parts of her outfit, excluding her shoes, are made from her hair. It is... magic, so it basically hardens into a leather-like substance.

Never played Bayonetta, was always interested in it, and your voice is so good for narrating

I haven't even played Bayonetta but this got a like for the storytelling. You have that quality in your narration that keeps me interested and wanting to listen.

Another thing to note here is that both the witches and the sages weren't allowed to use their powers against the humans, and Paradiso used this to their advantage as the witches can't fight back against the humans.

I wish they would put all of the Bayonetta games on PS...I love this freaking series.. it always intrigued when I was a teen. I look forward to the new game. I had to SUBSCRIBE...YOU DID THIS FLAWLESSLY!!!!

Honestly amazing job, I thought I knew almost everything about the lore but you really outdid yourself and know I know way more!
