Description Source:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paperboy...
Paperboy is a 1984 arcade game by Atari Games. The players take the role of a paperboy who delivers newspapers along a suburban street on his bicycle. This game was innovative for its theme and novel controls.
Gameplay
The player controls a paperboy on a bicycle delivering newspapers along a suburban street which is displayed in a cabinet perspective view. The player attempts to deliver a week of daily newspapers to subscribing customers, attempts to vandalize non-subscribers' homes and must avoid hazards along the street. Subscribers are lost by missing a delivery or damaging a subscriber's house.
The game begins with a choice of difficulty levels: Easy Street, Middle Road and Hard Way. The object of the game is to perfectly deliver papers to subscribers for an entire week and avoid crashing (which counts as one of the player's lives) before the week ends. The game lasts for seven in-game days, Monday through Sunday.
Controlling the paperboy with the handlebar controls, the player attempts to deliver newspapers to subscribers. Each day begins by showing an overview of the street indicating subscribers and non-subscribers. Subscribers and non-subscribers' homes are also easy to discern in the level itself, with subscribers living in brightly colored houses, and non-subscribers living in dark houses.

    Very true. I feel bad for kids now because they will never know the comradery that comes with counting up Your quarters, Hopping on Your bike, & peddling down to the local arcade & meeting up with Your friends after school & playing those big clunky cabinets. The sounds, smells, & the atmosphere. I can still recall the feeling of excitement associated with it when You got to play a new game. And when Your game was over .. it was over. You couldn't just play it until You beat it. ..

    You're a rare breed. It always makes me happy when I come across kids like you who actually get it, but it doesn't happen often. Every once in awhile you see a newer game that is just as good as the older stuff, but it's very rare. I can only think of a handful of games that came out after 2001 that are just as good as many of the classic games from the 80's and 90's. Two of them are Tales of the Abyss' and 'Dragon Quest VIII', both of them are late PS2 era RPG's.

  • @JMFSpike
    @JMFSpike11 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, it was an awesome time. There was something really magical and special about games that came out back then. Why this isn't the case anymore I'm not quite sure, but it's probably a combination of things. I think that the hardware limitations back then may be part of it, since it probably forced game companies to be more creative. Also, with every new generation of systems that came out you saw a HUGE improvement! In my opinion, the golden age of gaming started around 1986 and ended in 1996.

    All Access Gaming True . The MAT on the PS2 (or MAME) is the closest we'll get unless you have an arcade Paperboy.. I will say (on a side note) that most trackball games work very well with a mouse. Centipede and Missile Command come to mid here. On Missile Command I actually get better scores with a mouse set to very sensitive than I do with the trackball. Same for Centipede.....

    Generally I only do a request if they meet certain criteria. There must be 6 versions or more. They must be only for older hardware ( Meets this one ) or they must be within a series. I don't know much about the legends series but if it consists of it's original games in parts it might fell into that category. Are the games broke down into it's parts like MM 1,2,3 & such ? Also there are so many variables with stages. It could be a really complicated video. There is a lot to weigh through.

    Interesting that there was never an Atari 8-bit or 2600/5200/7800 version of this. (1985 was after the Tramiel purchase, so Atari and Atari Games were separate companies with different ownership, making ports of new Atari arcade games to Atari home hardware less of an obvious proposition.)

    Sorry for the very late response. For some reason your reply never appeared in my inbox. Yes, the Legends games are numbered, but there are only 3 in the series thus far(Legends 1, 2 and a spin-off called The Misadventures of Tron Bonne). They were working on a Legends 3 for the 3DS, but it was cancelled. It pissed off a lot of people who have been waiting over 10 years for a 3rd installment. Anyway, Legends doesn't have stages. It's an action adventure RPG of sorts, different from other MM's

    8 BIT: NES and MASTER SYSTEM 16 BIT: AMIGA and MEGADRIVE Was not aware of a late N64 version. I was not a huge fan of those late 90s PSX and N64 revivals. The only two good ones I remember were the PONG and GAUNTLET game.

    If You watch My compare of California Games You'll see the solution I came up with. I would have to break down each level into something like 20 second intervals to make a practical video but the quality of the video may suffer. Like I said.. a lot of stuff to consider.

    :) If You're ever in South Carolina I'll have to take You to Frankie's Fun Park. They have the largest arcade in South Carolina. But it's been years since I've been there.

    To be fair, your showing a amstrad cpc remake. The original cpc version is full colour, alas with no sound effects or music.
