I first listened to New Order from my dad, and found out about Joy Division from them.

the album cover for kids see ghosts is literally an artwork, and a darn good one at that

Nine inch nails the downward spiral is a great album cover. It has very industrial vibes, and the cover is very abstract, representing insanity.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned the album cover of In The Court of the Crimson King. Just a really eyecatching and iconic image, especially when you consider that most rock album covers of the time were nowhere near as abstract.

I'm not even much of a Joy Division fan. But.....the cover for Unknown Pleasures is PERFECT. Probably my favorite cover of all time. I also really like Tool's Aenima cover. And....Nirvana's In Utero. Damn near every single Bjork album...but Biophilia in particular, even though it's my least favorite album of hers. Um.....I'm blanking lol. OH OH....the first 2 Jane's Addiction albums!!! Those are absolutely gorgeous. Marilyn Manson's PoaAF. Deftones - Gore. And the _worst_ cover of all time, imo? A Perfect Circle - 13th Step. Incredible album...but SHIT cover.

Pantera's, Vulgar Display Of Power's cover is a perfect representation of the album.

I think the cover art for London Calling is the best album art of all time by a considerable margin. To me the image of Paul Simonon smashing his bass is a defining image of Rock 'n' Roll, and specifically punk and The Clash. The use of the text design from Elvis' first LP demonstrates how The Clash took onboard their many influences and explored them on the record, giving a nod to the past while simultaneously bringing them up-to-date and taking them forward. The best album of all time in my opinion, wouldn't change a single thing about it.

Dookie is a perfect album cover. It matches Green Day’s gritty/dirty immature kids aesthetic in the early 90s and the album cover looks exactly like how the album sounds.

I think To Pimp a Butterfly had a really good album cover, the photography really drew me in to listening to it when I first came across it. The acclaim and popularity of the album have made the cover all the more iconic and I think what it's depicting has aged well for all that has happened in 2020.

The Rainbow Goblins cover is just super pleasing, the painting look represents some classical parts of the album while the rainbow pops out like the fusion elements of the album. Such good composition on the painting. Obligatory Congratulations, I also think the Time To Pretend cover with the pinata head is awesome Wish You Were Here Most Yes covers, Roger Dean art is great Court of The Crimson King I do think DSoTM is the best one but these are some nice ones.

Creams Wheels of fire is such a beautiful cover in this cool comic style fits perfectly to their bands name and the train theme of the album

Loveless has a cover art that looks exactly like it sounds

Not only Mellon Collie, but Siamese Dream is an amazing cover too. The juxtaposition of two little girls in angle costumes to the grand rock roller coaster of an album. The image also taps into themes of angel wings, Siamese twins, dreams and the beauty of some of the ballads on that album. It’s a highly underrated album cover.

i really, really love the cover art for andrew bird's my finest work yet. really loved how he made the painting it was based on his own and I think it reflects the album really well. plus it's just gorgeous.

In the court of the Crimson King is probably my favorite. How can you not look at that and then not take a second look! its brilliant.

Californications album art has been burned into my brain since I seen it scattered amongst my brothers cd collection. It struck me then when I was just a kid to where I had to listen to it. I still love the album to this day and is the first thing that comes to mind when I hear album cover or album art.

I love origin of symmetry. The massive statues across the wasteland sells an apocalyptic setting at the beginning of time with a sense of ordered chaos. Absolutely amazing cover

Styx's Grand Illusion is still one of my favorites. The wierd abstract imagery with the track the albums named after invokes an almost ancient feeling. This combined with the lyrics talking about the Unhappiness we feel from not living up to others standards and that we are all thr same deep down makes it a very good album cover. Add in my favorite track from the record "man in the wilderness" the forest motif from the album cover melds into the lyrics talking about isolation from the outside world.

While I don’t think it’s necessarily the best, one of my favorite album covers has to be OutKast’s “Aquemini”. I’m kinda shocked nobody mentioned it. I was always impressed by how visually appealing the artwork was, while also capturing the smooth, chill, funky vibe of the music, and also showing, to some degree, the difference between 3 stacks and Big Boi (although, admittedly, Stankonia did a better job at that last thing).

Roger Dean's Yes album covers inspired me to start drawing as a teenager and I do illustration for a living now :)

Siamese Dream's cover feels unique especially for a rock album and represents a lot of the life and like contentness of the music and is just a really sweet photo itself

Return to the 36 Chambers by ODB is it for me. The absurdity paired with the surprisingly pleasing composition is such a perfect portrait of the album and artist’s style.

Swans 'The Seer' album cover is one of my personal favorites. Never have I seen an album cover that has directly influenced my experience with the album and felt like it told an entire story with a single image. It's also the perfect visual representation of Gira's voice on this album.

came here to say this. most iconic album cover for the most seamless, artfully-constructed album of all time. what sets melodrama apart from so many other albums isn’t just the brilliant wordplay and clever use of synth sounds with vocals (hard feelings/loveless), it’s how the album only works as a WHOLE. the entire album tells the chronological story of a whirlwind romance, a breakup, and moving on. it’s PHENOMENAL and I cannot stress enough how perfect melodrama is

3:47 EST by Klaatu has easily one of the best covers. The art nouveau sun looks beautiful against the light blue sky. It also reflects well on the album's music as well, most of the songs feel bright and colorful as well as a little odd and psychedelic

I really like the cover of A Perfect Circle's The Thirteenth Step. I also love the album art for Mark Morton's Anesthetic. The cover is beautiful, and then the vinyl comes with all those really striking red and black cards (one for each track). It's one of my favorites, for sure.

I love that the remastered release comes with a field recording of the quarry/lake they were in for the album art. Easily one of my favorite albums

AC/DC "High Voltage" album cover is one of my favorites just because of the pose and facial expression of Angus Young. Plus that lightning bolt in the background looks dope. The Misfits "Collection II" is another one just because that black and white image of the Crimson Ghost is incredible. The Clash "London Calling" is the most Britpunk album artwork ever.

MM.. FOOD definitely gives the impression of a saturday morning, breakfast and cartoons. A pretty animated album filled with food references and humor. However my favorite is probably Vaudeville Villain.

My most favorite ain't even these two though as much as I heavily like them, mine would be Born Like This, I just love how dark, weird, and apocalyptic that album is, and somehow art-wise the homophobic song Batty Boys fits in the very villainous intent of the album because for a villain, Born Like This is definitely where DOOM is the most vile.

I’m in a relatively small edm community and I find a lot of people 100% doing this. There’s no shame in liking big acts (most of them are big for a reason)

I really like the cover for You Won’t Get What You Want. It’s simple yet effective and you can almost tell what the music sounds like just by seeing the art.

Future Sound of London "Lifeforms" maybe my favorite of all time. Honorable mention to Add N to (X) "Avant Hard". PJ Harvey's "Rid of Me" is great too, I was late to the party (great f'n album) but remember seeing that cover in the music store as a kid and never forgot it.

Radiohead - Kid A: Conveys the entire meaning and feel of the album in one singular image, and it sticks with you forever.

Totally agree, that art is what got me into Radiohead as a whole. I saw it and instantly was curious enough to give it a blind listen. When I dove deeper into the album, I really began to appreciate and adore how much the music fit the image. I love when an album feels like it takes place in its cover art, and no one does it better than Kid A in my opinion.

I think Kid A is strong, but mainly because rainbows actually conveys an idea about the songs and Kid A says that something is going to be new, yet it doesn't say what and that's cool, but I prefer the fact that rainbows is also sending a message but saying it's about something silly, and colourful, very bright and with different spectres like a rainbow, which quite catches on with the first track 15 steps.

I really like the cover art of Let it Bleed by Rolling Stones, specifically also the back cover which shows the chaotic weird “stack/layer cake” of stuff just destroyed.

I think Random Access Memories deserves at least an honorable mention for the way it cleanly represents Daft Punk as a whole in a single image.

Fantano covering up Ringo in the Abbey Road cover art is the boldest statement of 2020

uuuuh Sulk by The Associates is so beautiful, and genuinely looks just like the album sounds. Depeche Mode had some very beautiful and appropriate album covers, i think A Broken Frame/Construction Time Again/Some Great Reward are fantastic and fit together beautifully on an aesthetic basis. Tin Drum by Japan, Self titled by Strawberry Switchblade, Torment And Toreros by Marc and The Mambas, Junkyard by The birthday party, Never For Ever by Kate Bush are some others i really like and i think accurately reflect the material. and i think the Quarantine album cover is excellent too.

Seether- isolate and medicate has got to be up there between the artwork and the hidden messaging especially in relation to the times and the way it represents the music on the album. Its soo close to perfect

The Never Story by J.I.D is a really cool orange cover art with cool sketch art people on it.

i've always loved fka twigs cover art, specifically M3LL155X is my favorite. i appreciate how the art always seems to carry into the vibe of her music videos

Big fish theory, Vince Staples. The grainy, saturated up-close shot of the fish is so aesthetically pleasing for some reason. I also love M83's Hurry Up, We're Dreaming because it effortlessly encapsulates nostalgia as good as the music in the album.
