Lessons Learned from the Twilight Zone
Ойын-сауық
In this video, I look at lessons we learned from the original 1960s TV classic the Twilight Zone created by Rod Serling. See what lessons I learned from the Twilight Zone episodes, "It's a Good Life", "The Obsolete Man", "Where is Everbody", "The Lonely", "Perchance to Dream", "The Hitch-Hiker", "Walking Distance", "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street", and "The Big Tall Wish".
These classic television episodes taught us great valuable life lessons with great stars such as Burgess Meredith, Bill Mumy, Claude Akins, and more.
The series took on some deep subjects such as freedom of religion, prejudice, loneliness, and the role of robots in the future.
Plus, see what happened to Bill Mumy's character on the 2003 Twilight Zone sequel, "It's Still a Good Life".

It's real good that he equated socialism with communism. But... it's just... if too many people wish away the truth, there will be no more reality left.
I hope you all enjoy my latest trip into the Twilight Zone.

The actor, Fritz Weaver, who plays the chancellor of the state was also one of the men who was helping his family escape from nuclear war with an experimental rocket in “Third From The Sun.”

I looked it up according to imdb, He coincidentally played, a priest, I guess, a Father Matthew Costigan on the 1985 Twilight Zone, which would have been the complete opposite of his role on Obsolete Man. I need to rewatch those 80s Twilight Zone episodes. Some of them were really good.
The final episode of The Twilight Zone aired June 19, 1964, so every episode is now over 60 years old. It is amazing how well some of episodes still hold up. The Brain Center at Whipple's shows the danger of computerized automation and AI that we are dealing with more now than when the episode originally aired in 1964. Number 12 Looks Just Like You reminds me of a lot of the trends that you see in today's world like Ozempic bodies, Botox foreheads, and lip fillers done to achieve a certain look that society considers attractive.

Rod Serling was a genius. There's no doubt about it. I guess, you could say most of the show is really about human nature through a sci-fi lens.
Crazy how these Twilight Zone episodes still hold up today
Another classic series back in the day 😀

i've seen every episode that was showcased in your video. You did excellent job thanks. I think the beauty of the twilight zone was the moral of each story.

Not Birmingham. Rod went to school in Binghamton, NY. Our English teacher/drama teacher *loved* Rod. He used to visit her & kept in touch. Blessings! Jackie in upstate NY

That's neat. It would be awesome to have met Rod.
On a side note, in The Hitchhiker, the Hitchhiker is The Craw from Get Smart, and the woman on the other end of the phone is Oliver Wendell Douglas' mother in Green Acres.
People out learn the lessons this is as classic as it gets man
Good post. I got into old time radio a few years ago and heard an earlier version of the “hitchhiker” same story I believe with Orson Wells as the main character.
The Obsolete Man should be required viewing in school.

Around 1967, a new boy came to my junior high school..... Billy Mumy. A girl I liked asked him what his favorite tv show was... He said, "Star Trek". By not saying Lost in Space, I thought he was a traitor. I'm glad he didn't read my thoughts, pointing a finger at me and declaring.. I'm a bad boy.. a very, very bad boy.

Maybe he said Star Trek to be humble, I sure wouldn't want to make him mad though,. Maybe he was just happy that you were thinking of Lost in Space.😀 That must have been pretty cool having Bill Mumy in your school. First thing I would have done is ask him about the robot.

@tvcrazyman It was interesting growing up in that neighborhood.. Atound that same time, on Halloween, my friend and I stumbled on William Shatner's door... He said we were too old and it was too late...I still haven't decided which trick to use. 20th Century Fox was closed by, so that's how I saw there actors.. Eight years later, Mr. Spock's daughter came to my college party.... Her ears were normal.

That is funny! But I bet you wouldn't have chanced fighting over the girl you liked if he liked her too! Pop goes the weasel!🤡 Not a bad gig when a child actor is remembered for the role they played in an episode of such an iconic sci fi series in Americana. He was so convincing in that role! I did not like the '80's remake. Gosh, whoever gave them license to have remade this series should have had their heads examined, lol!
It was good...a very good thing!
“Back There.” Showed us you can’t always change history. The two episodes “Once upon a time” and “Execution” show that people who time travel aren’t always going to like the new world they go to and long to be within their own time. Like “Monsters are due on Maple street” there is a parallel about prejudice and mob rule again in the episode “The Shelter.”

My bad. I read it wrong I guess.
I enjoy your videos, but you may want to be a little more even-handed when it comes to getting political. You draw interesting parallels between the ruling party in "The Obsolete Man" and those with Communist leanings, as well as between "obsolete culture" and "cancel culture" that are exhibited by certain factions of today's far left. But, could you not draw equally interesting parallels between the episode "He's Alive", with Dennis Hopper, and certain factions of today's far right? Stoking the fires of fear and hatred, crying about white Christians being the oppressed minority, etc? I personally abhor both extremes, and think there are plenty of lessons to be learned in avoiding *both*. Oh - great vid, by the way! Keep up the good work!

It's real good that you equated socialism with communism. But... it's just... if too many people wish away the truth, there will be no more reality left. I stopped watching when it became clear you're a right-winger. I always wondered how right-wing and sociopaths react while watching TZ. Serling's lessons were AGAINST right-wing mentality and the selfish hard-headedness seen in the characters. But to be fair & balanced, I also wonder about feminists watching. I think both groups need to watch specific episodes. But they probably just put their own spin on it to sustain their mindset. Do you realize that conservatives also practice Cancel-culture? And it rarely reaches the level that the Obsolete man is depicting... actual communism. No one (left or right) wants USA to be like China. I notice there's hardly any other comments criticizing you. Are you putting all the 'bad' comments in the cornfield?

I do recognize that people of all political leanings are guilty of one thing or another at various points in history. I'm not sure I agree with general statements of what constitutes the right and the left, actually, sometimes. I don't get very deep into politics in my videos, usually, anyway, other than general ideas, but you can't really review "The Obsolete Man" episode without a little bit of opinion. My main goal is to just make entertaining fun content, but occasionally you can't avoid some slightly political content.
Billy Mumy was a good little actor. But some things I've read from his mouth, prove he has issues. Spewing hate for others that he's worked with over the years. One being Alfred Hitchcock. He never matured and has stayed that little boy he's always portrayed. He cried that Hitch was mean to him...poor baby. I find it amusing that he did three episodes of the Alfred Hitchcock Hour episodes. I guess that money over came his hate for the man.
Good insights, especially for The Obsolete Man. But… uggg, I can’t believe that you found something in Its a Good Life. I’ve watched TZ many times (some episodes more than others) but I remember telling other fans that I saw no “point” to that particular episode. 😲🫢
