    Hi Carl...Thank you so much for such detailed and immensely helpful series of videos about Sony DSC HX400V. I bought this bridge beast recently in hope to pick up basic photography skills and your tutorials have been invaluable in my pursuits to that end. Couple of quick questions: Which external charger would you recommend (Sony accessories are not as enthusiastically stocked by the sellers here as they are advertised by Sony) for the batter NP-BX1? Also, is there a non-Sony TTL Speedlight (say, from Godox or Neewer or Osaka) which will be compatible with this camera? My sincere thanks in advance for your guidance and support.

    Hello Captain - Thanks for the kind words. I use Sony's enclosed USB charger to charge the camera, but I recently bought the Wasabi charger from Amazon for my A6000 and hear that's a good one for the DSC HX400V, too. The flash question is a tough one. I tried the Godox I use on my A6000 on the DSC HX400V, but it didn't work. I haven't tried others, so we might be stuck with the Sony flashes. Sony has a little flash for about $150 that should work. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. All the best. Carl

    @@carlreader8939 : These are great leads. I know availability of accessories for a bridge camera is always a challenge (already lived that bit with my Canon S3 IS). I found the Wasabi charger available here for NP-BX1 (the bundle includes 2 NP-BX1 batteries as well, at a good price), so that resolves the main issue. Thank you very much. For the flash, it's not a showstopper for now. Will continue researching and see if I can find one that works with the camera.

    When I turn the mode dial to scene selection, the overview of the different types of scenes doesn't appear on my camera as it does in your video. The only thing that appears is the icon of the currently selected scene in the top left corner, without any additional information, and I can change the type of scene by turning the selection wheel (or whatever it is called 😅). The only way I found to access the scene overview is by going on MENU and the to page 5. Is there a way to change the settings so that the overview appears automatically when I turn the mode dial to SCN? Second question: one of the photo examples is quoted as MACRO (with the flower symbol), but I don't find this among the available scenes. It does appear automatically in the top left corner (in auto mode) when I move very close to something. How can I access the Macro actively? Thank so so much for your excellent tutorials, they are just what I needed!

  • @carlreader8939

    @carlreader8939

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Karin, If you go to menu - toolbox - page 2 - Mode Dial Guide and turn that on, you should be able to toggle between the scenes with the selection dial, but the camera comes that way and I think you're already able to do that. As you say, the macro is pretty much automatic when you get close to a subject. It's little more difficult, but if you use the long zoom, you can stand off from a subject like a flower or an insect and get a close-up from several feet. Get the subject in view while zoomed out, and then zoom in. I'm comfortable with that, and the insects and flowers are, too. Sorry I couldn't be more help. All the best. Carl

    Hello Ines - Thanks for the question. In SCN, the camera chooses both shutter and aperture to what it thinks is best for the scene. It's an automatic setting, so the photographer does not have those choices. If you want more control, change to another setting like A, S or M. All the best. Carl

  • @carlreader8939

    @carlreader8939

    5 жыл бұрын

    The top right rear wheel allows you to choose shutter speed if the mode dial (wheel on the top right) is set to S. It also lets you choose the f-stop if the mode dial is set to A. In M on the mode dial, the top right wheel allows you to choose shutter speed and then f-stop. To move the choice from shutter speed to f-stop, press the lower part of the control wheel on the right back side of the camera. The small round dial on the left side of the viewfinder is the diopter. Look through the viewfinder, use autofocus on the subject and then turn the diopter to until the subject appears in focus to you. The diopter allows you to adjust the view so that you see a clear view of when the subject is in focus depending on your vision. I hope this helps.
