Lesson 5: How to Develop Core Strength for your Horse with ground work.

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The ground work exercises we have been practicing up until this point are great ways to help build your horses core strength but here are a few more things you can do to make sure your horse is healthy and strong enough to be a good riding horse. Please check out my KZread Channel, Susan Rainville, for other videos on ground work to help develop a good riding horse. These exercises are a great way to improve a riders coordination as well.

Core strength is incredibly important for any horse, but even more so for my mare, who has been diagnosed with kissing spine. All these exercises help give her the topline muscling she needs to keep symptoms at bay! Thanks Susan!

These are so great to do in the winter to try to keep maintaining core strength. Exercises for carrots is a good motivator too! 😊

Hello and thank you for your video on strengthening your horses core. I would love to have a conversation with you though. I have an 11 year old arab mare and she is incredibly sweet and intelligent. The problem being that she comes with only ready to ride training. Not to worry,, I am happy to train her. My question is regarding strengthening her entire body. She is very "left handed" so the muscle groups in the chest area are larger on that side up through the shoulder. I need to get the right side the same way. I do not want her in any pain because of this. Ground work is good, she softens up very well but can be stubborn with the lead. Could you offer me some advice on everyday exercises I can do now, to get her string and healthy to ride train in the spring?

My chiro would always say “the release (of tension) (stretch) is the reward” and “don’t create the Cookie Monster!” Use the carrot or large cookie to invite the horse but don’t ever give him the cookie until you can put it in his feed bin or something not hand fed

I've been teaching stretches with carrots for years and none of them are cookie monsters. It's all about how you do it.

I’d love to watch this whole video as sure it’s really helpful but the noise of those birds drowns out the instructions 🙈
