Cudos to you, you chose a challenging instrument. How's it going? I started guitar at about 20, piano at about 29, I'm 34 and have started trumpet, trumpet is quite challenging. I know people have that lie in their heads they need to start young, it's a lie. I also play drums and bass, don't intend on stopping learning

@@selinbuyukcengiz6873 ok, well, welldone, I understand about time, but welldone for trying, don't give up. Some things you could try for a season are, wake up a bit earlier and spend time practicing, during your lunch break at work, and in the evening, stay inspired and motivated, watch vids, pray for God to show you a way.. Small gaps etc. Try to be consistent, some time everyday, or every few days, I pray for help for you

I played tuba in high school and got pretty good at it. but that was over 25 years ago and I haven't touched one in about 15 years. An old friend from those band days (and accomplished music educator in the time since then, and virtuosic musician throughout his life) passed away last year and I started to realize how much I missed making music. So I bought myself a trumpet, an old Vega Odell I found on ebay for way less than it seems like it should have been priced and now comes the struggle of getting to the point that I can make music out of it. And that's where this video comes in. Thanks for making it.

I think it's making much more sense and had no idea that the notes would be different from the notes on piano, so this is important to know for sure, so thanks for pointing that out to us newbies, which looks like my kids and I are not alone. Well, we started over six months ago, and got sidetracked and our study and practice got moved from the backburner, to the sink. We are coming back as students, and hope we can progress now knowing what the notes are supposed to sound like. Thanks again.

Just subscribed. I grew up playing the French Horn, then the Tuba - yes, I made that switch for Marching Band, and of course the flugel horn and eventually the Trumpet my Jr and Sr year of High school jazz band. I really enjoyed playing the melody instead of Umpa, umpa. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. Anyway, I'm 45 now and haven't picked up a horn since 95. I can still play scales and such, but want to start over and that's how I found you. Thank you for easing me back into this.

Father was a music teacher and had his own music store and is an accomplished French hornest and writes music and played with symphonies and college bands and would like to surprise him. I got kicked out of band in eighth grade for changing the music. Often wondered how great I could’ve been . Now at age 57 I would like to see how good I can get with what years I have left.

Excellent video. I am an adult and will finally attempt to play the instrument that I so love to hear. Please let me know where a good source to purchase the instrument in the Washington DC or online area.

I'm a clarinet player thinking of playing the trumpet. I already play the Bass Clarinet and Tenor Sax as well... so I might as well keep it in the Bb family lmao

I think I’ll sign up for your course. I just bought a dented Conn B with stuck valves for $20. All good now. I don’t have a lot of time. (66 years old) so I’d like to sign up for the 3 month LOUIS ARMSTRONG course if that’s doable 😁

Hello sir, i'm from south africa, i understood everything clearly, but we dont have band class at school, but i did find my great grandpas old trumpet after my father passed away, i wish to learn this specific one but i can't, since i don't have those extra holes in the center where you slid your thumb and ring finger into, so i don't know what to do, the mouth piece and everything else is the same though

The weird thing is about my trumpet is that I used to be a blue to play it but suddenly the next day after I got it and blew into it, it just didn’t work. I’m going into 5th grade band and this really helps! (I finally found a video that helps me with playing trumpet!) Thank you so much! ☺️

Hi Maggie. That's great that you were getting sounds - not so great that the next day you weren't. Either your lips weren't vibrating or the air just wouldn't go through your Trumpet. If it's the lips thing, try getting a buzz going in just the mouthpiece before you put it in the instrument. If you can get a good mouthpiece buzz sound but the air won't pass through the Trumpet then my guess is that either there's a valve turned around in its casing or - if you took the valves out - a couple of valves might be in the wrong casing. They're different from each other. If one of your valves is making a clicking sound when you push it down and let it up, try turning the cap (where your fingertip goes) clockwise until it clicks into place, then tighten the cap below that. See if it plays now. If that's not the problem, look at the links below and see if they help. I'll make a note to do a quick video on turned around valves, because that happens to a lot of young players. Good Luck! At 17:50 in this video I'm putting valves back in a Trumpet kzread.info/dash/bejne/d6Zk1KyGaJbWhqg.html At around the 5 minute mark in this video there's something useful: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qWiFlbpuadXfgZs.html There's a long explanation in this article if you like that sort of thing: trumpetheroes.com/trumpet-valves/

@@TrumpetHeroesHowie I tried redoing the valves, and you were right. They were I the wrong place, I’m pretty sure it was changed because I had to lube it. Thank you!

I played in Jr HS 1959-62. Now in my mid '70's. Found my original horn, Getzen Super Deluxe s/n 110813. Was put away in original case and kept in back my clothing closet. Trumpet& case look nearly new. Will get horn professionally serviced to flush inside, sanitize, oil valves, lube slide, cleanup the original Bach 6C mouthpiece. Is it too late to relearn everything? How to read the notes, finger positions, playing scales, etc etc

I like your explanation. I have a 1960s OLDS cornet. I am a beginner. I cleaned cornet, dried and oiled all valves. Valves are correctly placed. There's no sound. What could it be? Could it still be wet?
