I really liked Jen Barkley. She’s kind of an anti-Leslie; they’re both brilliant, friendly and hard-working, but Jen’s cynical and only in it for the money while Leslie is idealistic and optimistic

Is Jen really friendly though? Just on the surface as she says herself she doesn't care about anyone and anything. She just knows how to cimmunicate/deal with people

​@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 I would more describe her as brutally honest. She doesn't care about the campaigns she's working for, but she doesn't lie about it to Leslie's face. At least not when they're in private. She's also being honest when she says that she genuinely likes Leslie. She does. On a personal level, she likes Leslie and wants her to win, but on top of being brutally honest, she's also professional and ambitious and not the kind of woman who would let her personal feelings affect her work. She was also the woman who told Leslie to dream bigger and think about politics on a scale larger than just Pawnee, which inspired Leslie to go for the big leagues. She's not friendly, but she is sympathetic to their cause and refuses to do anything less than her best for them, which ended up being a bigger help to Leslie than any of the people she has on her side who are friendly. Jen is the reason Leslie went big in politics, because she does care. She flat out admits that she likes Leslie and Ben and even though aspects of their personal life gross her out, on a deeper level, she wants them to win and succeed in life. She just doesn't want to be part of their private life. She's all about keeping it professional and honest.

When I had watched it for the first time I don't know why I always sided with Jen instead of Leslie. I think that has lot to do with Kathryn Hahn's performance.

Jenn Barkley, literally art imitating life at its finest. Her character is obviously a hilarious cartoon impersonation of a political campaign director, but it actually kind of paints a super realistic portrait everything thats wrong in Washington. Vapid people who don't actually believe in the things they do or say, they just do or say it for the money or power.
