Carol Burnett, in her first autobiography, writes about standing in that unemployment line, waiting for that cheque, and how humiliating it was. She got the same lady every week, who would look down at Burnett, and huff, and roll her eyes and cast aspersions. So when Burnett got her first paying gig, it was on the Ed Sullivan show, and Burnett went down there, just to tell the woman how much she'd made in one week.

So special to watch this. It is so tragic that he has passed away now. He was so talented and funny as could be. RIP dear man

Leslie is a true, Southern gentleman. God bless him.

I first saw Leslie Jordan as the Mayor on a TV show Carter Country. He would deliver the character's notorious/hilarious by-line along with shoo'ing away wave of his hand, "Handle it! Handle it!" as he would hurry off to something like a lunch meeting that at the time was more important to his self-serving aire. After all, he was the Mayor! He was brilliant in that role! THAT was my first introduction to the truly entertaining skills of Mr. Leslie Jordan. I am genuinely glad he has managed to achieve a level that supports him comfortably. Thank you Leslie Jordan for your perseverance, commitment to your craft and, mostly, for your commitment to bettering yourself.

I was reared in South Carolina. After college (French major) I went to France in 1971 for total immersion for about two months, then returned home and quickly moved to the gay Mecca, New York City. I was in a gay bar in the West Village, "The Stud," when a guy with whom I was chatting began to mock my southern accent. I switched to speaking French. That shut him up.

Yes! They should have designed a spin-off show for the Beverly Leslie character after Will & Grace (even though they killed off that character in the finale). It would have made him a big star! There's still time! 🌟
