Leslie Fish raw-ish interview footage (2000)
We received this footage of Leslie Fish being interviewed for the documentary Finding the Future (2003; dir. Casey Moore, prod. Joseph Formichella, C. Moore, M. Pryor). Unfortunately there are still cuts, since the footage comes from an intermediate stage in the editing process, but it has quite a bit more purely Leslie material than the other video!
0:00 - "At the Worldcon"
0:30 - What is filk?
1:45 - "Toast for Unknown Heroes"
2:55 - "Filkers Dining Together" (incomplete)
3:40 - Visions of the future
4:10 - Scientists are government whores but otherwise science is nice
6:00 - Criminals and artists
7:10 - Corporate aristocracy
9:25 - Cheap computers
10:30 - SF fans are the best
12:15 - Gaming
12:55 - "At the Worldcon" (again)
13:30 - ???
At this point in the video it goes back to the beginning but from a different camera angle. It's worth watching though, because "Filkers Dining Together" is complete here.
13:35 - "At the Worldcon"
14:05 - What is filk?
15:15 - "Toast for Unknown Heroes"
16:30 - "Filkers Dining Together"

Hearing Leslie speak is so interesting, she caries so much confidence in what she says
9:33 interesting she says this-- it's now basically impossible to survive without a cell phone or at least some other device these days.
She truly is an unsung hero!

It's a dream of mine to eventually meet Leslie in person. Thanks for sharing this!
Great video, great talk. Reminds me a lot of the Utah Phillips album We Have Fed You All For A Thousand Years. Its so wonderful to hear these sorts of oral histories about times and places I’d likely never hear about otherwise, and from someone who was there. I’ve spent some time reading through old filk and filk-adjacent publications, and have found them really valuable, if only for the opportunity to see different conversations on the things I enjoy than im used to seeing. If you’re finding yourself looking for more stuff like this, definitely find some old zines about something you like. it will definitely be worth you time. Thanks for uploading ❤️🏴🚩
I'm really glad this interview exists because as someone from a state that is far from anything cool, I feel like I miss out on the majority of the oral history, having brief records of it like this amazing.
"its not the tool is the use it is put" Truest Quote ive heard
so much truth...
Based Leslie and based uploader
The legend is back
This makes me so happy to see. Thank you for sharing
i like how at 4:04, the loudest sound in the world plays jokes aside, this is so cool. i love knowing that these oral histories have been archived. its so amazing. it'd be so cool to see Fish in real life, and now that im in phoenix, it feels so possible. it feels like i've missed the golden era of filk, but its things like this that make me happy that the voices of the influential people are preserved.
Awesome!
Leslie fish is AMAZING i wish i could meet her one day
Wow this is a little gem. I am a big fan of The Weight and of her filk songs and it's the first time I see her speaking in a video. She's awesome! 🟥⬛

Shes so cool
well, the smart watch has made the wrist computer with modem real
There is some song about cryptography cypher but for hell on earth I can not finder it😭
She bought into some of the very propagandistic principles she predicted would be used against the public. And yet, I think that marks her far and above beyond most of us, myself included. I hope we all see each other again if she met the God who keeps saving my life and preventing accidents around me, after warning me seconds ahead of time. Not sure what else to say, since her music is awesome, and I've met everything but "Bigfoot" face to face, wide awake with other witnesses, but I recognize the quotes Leslie dropped here.
