    oh my god dai seems like a DELIGHT of a human. (and totally understand what you meant on the podcast bc like what a lovely human, "oh dear uhh please help me with my form again" lololol) and also this is delightful bc i can just use this as inspiration for working out on my own at home, so i don't have to fully get into it. these are all movements and skills i learned in high school PE (shout out to my very enthusiastic and competent teacher who was the reason i took it all four years; my squat & weightlifting forms are pitch perfect despite my incredible crooked pelvis) so it's a nice kind of guide for what to do on my own. start with a 20-15-10-5 kind of thing for a number of minutes, and just listen to my body for what works best & growing from there. bc haha hEDS and other chronic health issues said "oh you deeply enjoyed cardio kickboxing for several years? how about Not Anymore :)" so i gotta do what i can...lol

    Xfit definitely IS an intimidating pool to dip your toes into, but the water is genuinely nice once you're in there. I'm sure it varies from gym to gym, but I've only ever met the most encouraging and supportive people at mine. If you do decide to do it long-term, you're gonna have a helluva good time, and whatever people say about your forearms now is gonna be nothing in the future... plus you'll get that xfit trademark: Shoulders For Days 💪

    Alayna, I'm loving these athletic challenge videos!! You know why? Because I can see how much fun you are having!! I have always loooved a lot of sports (like dancing, gymnastics, soccer, fitness, yoga...) but was never that great at it due to my chronic pain and hypermobility issues (I later in life found out that I have Fibromyalgia and hypermobility). I've learned over the years though that I can still do a lot, as long as I have the right form and listen to my body's boundaries. Moving your body is healthy, whether you have chronic pain issues or not. You just have to do it correctly and listen to what you're body is telling you, and having someone to explain proper form etc is also extremely helpful. I love the way Dai was showing you this too, he seemed just as enthusiastic as you and your interactions seemed super respectful and positive, which I loved as well. Seeing you enjoy these challenges makes me remember how glad I am that I am still able to do so much athletic things, even though my body has its limitations. Is so important to keep moving in a way that feels good both physically and mentally, excites you, but also challenges you. Keep up the great work bey-biii! Living for this❤

    Alayna did very well - climbing helps so much! Some of crossfit seems fine but when you're doing things like the toe to bars, why not do a slow controlled movement without the kipping? The aim just seems to be to get as many reps as possible rather than doing fewer reps of a version that's less likely to injure people

  • @DaiManuel

    @DaiManuel

    7 ай бұрын

    we agreed to do a cross-section of the movements just to introduce them... but normally I wouldn't have people do any kipping until they have the core and joint stability (and strength) to do a static pull-up... but the kip is very useful when we translate the movement to Olympic lifting and gymnastics...

From what I read, the Crossfit methodology wasn't in high repute among professional coaches, because it was based on doing as hard a workout as possible, which might feel like one did well, but isn't the best approach scientifically. Needless to say it also apparently caused a lot of injuries, namely 'rhabdo'. Would be great if things changed, of course. :-)
