Lee Thibidaux Les is in his 90s here in 2008 and had increasing chronic arthritis in his hands since the late 1980s. Still, he had a better lead tone though his entire life than Zakk has to this day. I love No More Tears, Suicide Messiah and Book of Shadows as much as the next guy but Zakk can’t even hang with these guys here. He’s playing like a spaz. At 10:10 Les has to lead him back because Zakk is totally lost on what to play that fits. Then whenever he’s not playing he sounds like a belligerent drunk asshole, including while singing like a garbled, wanna-be Greg Allman.

Zakk was one of my all time greats... Then I saw this

@@robertterry2838 I get that Zakk plays a lot of mindless shredding stuff, but it's a mistake to write him off as being just a soulless shredder. Rust, Just Killing Time, Sleeping Dogs, Angel of Mercy, the guy has written dozens of songs that pack the soul into his playing. He's a great guitarist who (to his detriment) also does the boring 1000 notes a minute stuff for too long.

Les was saying damn this is what it's like going to guitar center and trying out one of his guitars.

eric johnson is the man..

This was back when Zakk was a ridiculously terrible drunk. He's been sober for like 6 or 7 years now, & He plays MUCH better. Check out his newest solo album Book of Shadows 2 (2016), it's a really mellow album with lots of acoustic, keys, etc.. I love it. Waaay different than his material from the last 20+ years. Also, Zakk will be playing guitar again for Ozzy' s 2017 tour.

Gotta love Les keeping time while talking and looking around the room.

I like Zakk, but this one falls way short of the mark. Shredding isn't in the blues idiom. Half the notes he plays are sour, and the other half just don't fit in. This was like day one of my introduction to improvisation class in college. Also, Zakk, we all know you're a bad ass. You don't have to constantly prove it by saying fuck every other word. I say more than my fair amount of profanities daily, but I would never say anything crass in front of a legend like Les Paul. Show some respect.

Agreed.. Zakk is my favourite, but in this case..He is much more solo guitarist, and when he is on his own wave, he doesn't hear other band members..

Les is Royalty in the Biz! He's seen & head it all!! Not gonna shock him or make him blush.... But still nothing wrong with showing a little Class & respect!! Not is for Les, but maybe the audience. Believe it or not, they are important

I only came here after reading some of bashings on another video. I thought, "can't be *that* bad, surely?" I was surprised by zakk. I know he can play, was he joking? Seems like he wasn't bothered by the context around him to play *with* the band.

zakk focus on the breathing room.. the notes you dont play are as important if not more so..find the chord tone..not a criticism

Exactly. It seems that Zakk only knows how to solo around a key; the idea of basing a solo on each chord and playing around each change seems completely foreign to him.

What’s with all these hate comments. Zakk is swearing his head off, yes. But that doesn’t mean he has no respect for the legend Les Paul. At the end of the song you can clearly see Les is enjoying Zakks company. Zakk is a character like no other he’s loud and proud especially when he’s drunk like this video for instance. He’s a incredible player that has got him so far in life, don’t hate. Because look where you are compared to him.

I was in awe when I saw this. There's an old saying where I come from and its "respect your elders". I used to like Zakk as a player but, man, when I saw this, you lost my respect Zakk. I hope you saw the playback of this and if your weren't embarrassed, your not a good human being......

As an inventor he'd probably appreciate how he has made the stock Les Paul into something unique and his own. I know it's "cool" to bash EMG atm but how about you get your head out of your ass and let people use whatever they like.

Sometimes things go good and other days....this....shit happens life goes on.

Les' phrasing stands out and Zakk buries his notes with phrenetic rambling. Quite a lesson in actually hearing the instrument instead of rushing out a flurry of whatever.

Somebody make this a meme. I like Wylde as a person and he's clearly a talented player but man, this made me laugh my ass off. The guy is so out of place.

Had resisted watching this clip for years thinking that it would be pretty crappy, I wasn't wrong.Les sure did give a lesson on humility by putting up with the very drunk guest guitarist.

Zakk always has to be over the top. In a situation like this with a legend like Les Paul and Zakk has to cuss and play 150 miles an hour. He can play slow and melodic when he wants, why didn't he? Everything has to be 64th notes when sometimes an occasional quarter note would do well.

I’d watch interviews/videos of Les when he was younger. He was kind of like Zakk in a way. He used to use some sweet fast, sweep, alternate picking. And I’ve seen a video where he flips of someone on stage, jokingly.
