less than 50 tanks from 2018 to 2025.... what a speed of production (and without any other significant foreign purchases so KMW can't blame overworked production lines). No wonder that Polish Army despite operating Leo 2A4's, 2A5's, and 2A4PL's decided to not buy from Germany but from US nad South Korea (amongst other factors). In less than a year from the initial purchase Poland received 28 K2's... Also modification of Polish 2A4's to "PL" variant takes super long as Germany is not able to ship orderd parts in timely manner...

Poland's decision is completely understandable! Hungary also wanted to increase the number of orders after the Russian aggression in Ukraine, but KMW gave a deadline of 2030-32... so the Hungarian state got involved in the development and production of the KF51EVO panther. so there will be two brigades, one with Leopard2A7HU, and the other brigade with KF51 panther, but the first series KF51EVO version with the same 120L55A1 cannon as the L2A7HU, due to ammunition compatibility, ( and the 130mm cannon is still under development) Later they will be upgraded to a 130mm cannon...

Hungry has 130 T-72 tanks. These Leopard 2 were ordered in 2020 and are the first installment to replace the T-72s.

There were over 300... Lots were scrapped, and we donated 77 fully refurbished T-72M1s to Iraq in 2007 at the request of the USA...

Germany in Cold War had 3500 tanks and now has 187. Most used for training.

I wish the austrian government would be also so wise, to bring a reasonable number of newest high end tanks into service (around 300), instead of upgrading its homeopathic number of stone age vehicles.

An army with 80-100 tanks is not an army! It's a kindergarten!

Reality for that big of a land… than again most EU countries has stopped making or buying military power/ equipment. Due to peace, and only now when countries waking up that there is a potential war in near future. So everyone is arming up. Surprisingly or not Hungry doesn’t have billions for military budget so it is still decent.

Depends on the version….. (1). the Leopard 2 A4 version, the most widely deployed version of the Leopard 2 has a real problem in combat with the flat facing glacé mantle forming a “shot trap”. Thus all later model Leopard 2 A6 and A7 have the additional sloped armor on the mantle (2) All Leopard 2, Challenger 1/2, M-1A1 use Chobham armour with the same protection level. Only the Abrams M-1A2 have depleted uranium armor over the frontal arch making it the most protected tank in the world.
